I'm trying to figure out why my computer is locking up occasionally and I was hoping to spot some error in the Event Viewer (application). In the past there has always been a long list of application events. Now there is nothing there, even after I refresh it. Looking at the Event Viewer (system) there is also nothing showing, but when I refresh it the listings show up like they should. Could there be a corruption in the Event Viewer system, and how could I fix this if it is. John

I am realatively new to using perfmon and have been tasked with determining the cause and solution to a problem with the time it takes to perform a scheduled task that copies data from one server to another. The time to copy (using XCopy) has nearly doubled overnight. Hi, I am testing out Terminal Server 2008/TS Web Access/TS Gateway solution and it's work (almost) wery well. I have one server with terminal services and one with TS Gateway/TS Web Access. The problem starts when i turned on "change password at next logon" for one of my test users then I can't logon to TS Web Access and i got the same result when i try remote desktop but there i got a message that my account is disabled or password is run out.... Re: Resize partition on Windows 2003 server urgent!!!! There are some info I picked up from website: 1. Without partition software. You can resize other partitions, just not the boot partition which is the one that the Windows server 2003 files are located on. To resize it, use the disk configuration tool after starting up with the 2003 disk. You'll have to reinstall when you do this. 2. There is no free windows server 2003 partition software, there are two great partition software for windows server 2003. * Partition Magic will do not the trick. In Disk Cleanup under "Other Options" I am unable to delete all but the most recent restore point. I can delete all points by disabling SR, and then re-enabling it, but I prefer using the recommended procedure. Hi i have recently installed Windows Xp sp2 version 2002 on my Dell Precision 390. But i am having problems with the add or remove programs. when i go to control panel, add or remove programs i get nuthin in my list it is totally empty. Een though i have installed Java, Yahoo, Msn, Gmail, Limewire, and many oder softwares. can sum1 help me on how i can get the list??? -- McWayne

I'm trying to do a XP re-install and when I come to the Setup screen I press ENTER to setup Windows XP, I then press F8 to agree, I immediately get a blue screen that says "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to computer REGISTRY ERROR" How do I get around this? Can anyone tell me if I can transfer files from vista home premium to xp using a usb flash drive. I have some school files I would like to take with me on a trip and use my moms computer instead of taking my computer and her computer is running windows xp, mine is vista. Could this also be done using an external hard drive as well.

I recently had a catastrophic computer failure due to a power surge during a storm. I now have a new motherboard, new processor and new hard drive. I installed XP pro on the new unit and tried to update with Service pack 2 and I keep failing the validation. Is there a site I can download SP2 without going through the validation process? I now have an unidentified malware screensaver when I try to open my internet connection. My control panel has been removed. Anyone know how I can get into my registry and try to get my control panel back? this Malware is bright red in color and fills the entire screen but has no place to click on to download their product. I am getting an error on startup after doing windows update. Never saw this before. The ordinal 49 could not be located in the dynamic link library MAPI32.dll Looking on the Web, it seems that if you run Fixmapi.exe, this should fix it. It doesn't on my machine. Doesn't seem to do anything - just goes right back to a command prompt. I have 3 Mapi files: MAPI32.000 that is 110KB MAPI32.DLL that is 145K MAPI.DLL that is 81K What happened here? Hello Everybody Just wanted to share my new experience. If your system fails to start due to an error corresponding to missing HAL.DLL, invalid Boot.ini or any other critical system boot files you can repair this by using the XP installation CD. Just boot from your XP Setup CD and enter the Recovery Console. Then run "attrib -H -R -S" on the C:\Boot.ini file and delete it. i have a high resolution CRT monitor, and am wondering how to achieve the highest resolution upon the first time windows runs after installing, and before using control panel. when installing windows xp service pack 1 on a new machine and hard drive, at the point that the windows desktop first displays, and after chipset and graphics card drivers installation, how do i first utilize resolutions of 1280x1024 and higher, so that when i work with application windows, they are not all scrunched up small, as if i had first opened them in a very low resolution, like 800x600 or 640x480? i have noticed quite often, that after reinstalling windows and drivers, a…

I get a dos window that pops up c:\windows\system32\ in the title bar and a couple errors that say "Error: Access is denied" then another window that scrolls through a bunch of messages saying "Error: The Parameter is incorrect". The Windows disappear and the Windows Scripting Host window says Done then goes away. This happens after installing SP3 and logging in with the administrator account. Has anyone seen this before?

After Burning a number of files to a CD I find that the capacity has been reached. I write to inquire about the remaining files. Is there a way to use the operating system to 'compare' what has been copied and highlight what remains to be copied. Similarly, Is there some way to 'span' the files over a number of CDs through though XP professiona? Much thanks for any guidance

I have XP Pro not attached to a domain. I have a regualr user account that has admin rights. I want to be able to setup teh guest account NOT to be able to install programs, or download anythign from teh Internet. or at least not install anythign from teh Internet. how can I do that?

We have 2 TS farms both containing 2003 sp2 servers. For the general part the clients are outsiders with windows xp and higher. Also Mac clients are connected with the old and new rdp software from mactopia website. Worried about secure communication between the server and the clients. Want to avoid DoS attacks, dictionary password cracking as well as man in the middle scenarios. As it stands the Encryption level (in RDP-TCP properties) is set to “Client Compatible”. Hi, Not sure this is the correct group but i am sure someone has had the same problem as me. I just can't get a Nokia 6310i to be recognised by my XP Pro machine. I have loaded the software from Nokia and tried every USB port on the computer but the computer will not recognise the phone. Because of this I am unable to get my contacts off to transfer them to my new Iphone.
