Hi, One of our XP Pro users has enabled offline files and this normally works fine after having worked offline at work. However yesterday he had made substantial changes to the folder structure and created many new folders which were filled with files. After having logged on to the domain at work and waited for the logon sync process he checked if the new folders were created and synced in his server home folder. Only the new folders were created, but they were empty with none of the files which he had put in these folders while being offline. We have receontly installed a Win 2008 Server. I added the Hyoer-V role, and installed a virtual instance of a Win2000 Server. I have no problem accessing the WIn2000 server via Remote Desktop / Terminal Services. Here is the twist.... Non-Admin users cannot log on locally. No problem, there is an option for that Right???? WRONG! You cannot access the "Allow logon through Terminal Services" element of Group Policy when you are accessing the group policy via a Terminal Services Session! ACK! Hi, I have recently reinstalled Windows XP Sp2 and all hotfixes and I figure out a strange behavior if I use shift+Insert and strg+delete which I use permanently for coping text. the behavior is that if i copy text into the clipboard by control+c (before i used ctrl+ins) and using then shift+ins to insert the text nothing happened - i need to press return twice and then it's working! it always like that! does anybody has an idea? thanks

I have a black screen that comes on when the computer is not used for about 15 mins. But it's not the screen saver. Someone I had worked with told me how to change it before, but I forgot how, and ever since my computer was reformatted or something, it comes back on all the time. It's very annoying when watching movies, Etc. Does anyone know what I am talking about or how to change it?

Ok...Dell tower, 512 megs, 1.7gzh processor..XP. I got some malware about 2 months ago...got Anti-spyware, and cleaned it up. But I've noticed since then I have *two* add/removes icons in the control panel. One looks normal, the other looks like a file looks when there is no association. But sometimes, even that icon will look normal, not often, but sometimes...and what's even weirder...is that both icons when clicked, will open up the add/remove program. I've noticed no other problems with the computer, and this is NOT really a problem for me, it's just that I know I'm not supposed to have two of them. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

As I was trying to get the server back online there were 2-3 dozen aborted reboots (plus a variety of other errors). Now that the system is more or less fully back online there is now a backlog of error reports that want to be sent. One at a time. I'm more than happy to submit them, but I don't want to click ok to send, then wait, then click the close button only to have another box requesting permission to send an error report immediately reappear. Is there a way to send/cancel all of the queued error reports all at once?

I have 3 clients that called today. After automatic updates brought down and installed WinXP SP3. Now none of the computers boot probperly. They all boot to a BSD! Any Ideas how to fix this> Thanks

Hi all. I use the following to export names to my csv file. "csvde -r objectclass=user, -l displayname, -f test.csv" I found that computer objects are also exported even though i specifically state objectclass=user. However if i use objectcategory=user instead of objectclass=user, it will export only user objects and not computer objects. Why is this so? Pls advise. Thks in advance.

am trying to install some new software, but I get the following error in the middle of the installation: Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Installer Returned an Error. Error 1601. This is during the point where the software tries to install this program. I tried to install on another computer and it worked fine. However, I need this on my main computer. I always seem to have two copies of msiexec.exe in memory and because of this cannot install ANYTHING onto my computer. Is there a way to determine exactly what the copies of msiexec.exe in memory are trying to install, that way maybe I can un/re install that product I've tried the "Windows Install Clean Up" utility but don not see how this can help as I do not know which product to clean? I think this problem is the reason why my page file is always at arung 90% full even when I am not running anything. Heeeeeeeeeeeeelp

For some years I have had a LAN with four computers at home, based on a DLink DSL504T modem/router also providing access to the Internet. With the kids all grown up and gone now-a-days I decided to simplify everything. My one remaining machine now connects to the Internet via a SmartAX ADSL2+ MT882 modem using the ethernet port. The old DLink had a hardware firewall built in, and I also ran a software firewall on each individual computer. My question is, now with a firewall also in the new modem, and no LAN any more, do I really need a software firewall on my single machine as well any more? For several days now, the list of files and folders is reversed in any application which uses a common dialog for File/Open and File/Save. That is, the files and folders beginning with "Z" are at the top of the list. I can correct it temporarily by right-clicking and choosing "sort by name" but the next time I invoke File/Open or File/Save it is backwards again. How can I fix it permanently? - Rich

I was trying to clear a boot.vbs virus and the instructions told me to go to the registry and delete data files from the winlogon folder. I did this then rebooted and when the machine got to the logon screen it does not recognise any accounts or passwords, they seem to have been deleted. I have xp home, sp 3. but the problem started before i installed the service pack. On webpages, i.e. comcast home page, while viewing the fan. Sometimes i can view for a while, sometimes i get kicked right away. I get an error that internet explorer has to close and in event viewer, its the html.dll error. Ive tried different versions of ie and i still seem to get it.. its driving me crazy!!!!! thank you in advance for any help!

Hi I have found an article in the past that explained the difference between a User initiated shutdown and a System initiated shutdown. Many of the repsonses to similar questions about "no rdp after reboot" mention the use of shutdown.exe, and this is indeed the fix offered by the KB/Q article I am looking for. Hi! I imported a new COM+ Component that was working in 2000 server + IIS and I putt it to a 2003 server for work with the web that i mount in the IIS too. It´s impossible view the website in local or from internet... it say that i haver a problem with the security of the com+. Ok so i go into User accounts and there is not a user name in there to delete normally, however in documents and settings there is a name with subfolders and i want to delete this person out of my computer. How do i do that it wont let me. sometimes it says write protected file or always something but i also have a profile name under documents and settings that i want to change the name and there is another named all users and one named guest which are ok but how do i do the delete and rename this is under ocuments and settings ok thanks for your help. -- Dana

whenever I open a web page using a shortcut on my desktop the page comes up reduced to a half page. However, if I am already on the web with a full page, the new page comes up full. When I go on the web from the start menu it comes up in a full window. I think it has something to do with the tiling function. -- tooc2bc
