Problem creating User account
by Guest Jackpine- 7 replies
As the computer administrator on my PC, I created a new limited User account. However, when I tried to open up this new account, I got a small window saying Personal Settings. Setting up Internet settings. (Or words to that effect.) An hourglass appeared. This continued for about 5 minutes with no change. I then rebooted the PC and tried to open the new account again, with the same result. Can someone explain why the new account will not set up properly? Thank you. --

I have the shield by my clock which says "updates are ready for your computer". Clicked on it and eventually it said it was for SP3. I canceled out all the panels and now I still have the shield saying I have updates. I'd rather not have SP3 (had d/ld a few months ago and was lucky in that it found errors and didn't take), so how can I get rid of this shield?

How do I change drive letters?
by Guest Moonbarker Osbourne- 3 replies
This mornin', I made a mistake that caused my system to see my usual USB connected external hard drive as the same letter as when I have my camera's SD card plugged into my printer. I've already gone through the pain in the tail of chagin' ev'rything so that all my programs look for "G" instead of "F" when they look for somethin' on the external HD. For future reference, if the external drive letter gets changed by my system again, how do I change it back to what I want it to be?

I am working through a router with one main computer, a wireless laptop, and a second desktop computer. When everything is plugged in, the second desktop computer (which runs Windows XP Home Edition) shows it is connected to the Internet, but when running a browser (in this case Internet Explorer) I get the "The page cannot be displayed" error. I've tried to run an "ipconfig" through the command prompt and I get this error: Windows IP Configuration An internal error occurred: the request is not supported. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help. Additional information: Unable to query host name. I followed the instructions i…

Re: Lost "current date" from taskbar Hi, got the same problem. Advice below does not help. In addition to the clock, I also have the name of the day in the taskbar - can't get rid of it. I don't need it, but I NEED the date! I have no third party software for this task, just basic XP Pro. "Ramesh, MS-MVP" wrote: > Bob, > > Right-click the Taskbar and uncheck Lock the Taskbar option. by Guest DanC- 2 replies

When i try to copy a local profile to server 2003 and i try to change the permission to use by everyone, Vista ask me the enter username and password of the netwerkadministrator. When i do this (i asume this is the same of the administrator of the server) it fails. So Vista can't verify the username 'everyone' and refuses to changes the rights. Copying the profile whitout changing the permissions works perfect, but useless for me.

Computer boot problem
by Guest Markkk- 6 replies

I have a problem getting the computer to boot properly when I first turn it on in the morning. (If I turn it off and then on later in the day it works fine.) What happens is it goes through all the motions of booting up, including playing the warm-up theme music, but the screen remains dark. If I turn the monitor off and on, I can see the desktop for an instant when it comes back on, before the screen again goes dark. The Windows loading screen (with the moving bar) also flashes by momentarily during bootup. If I leave the computer on for half an hour or so after the bootup, I can push the spacebar to make the desktop appear (just like when the computer is…

Hi, I'm running a Dell Latitude D830, 3gb ram, 2.6Ghz Centrino, and Windows XP SP3. The machine usually boots, and logs on to the point where you can begine to run programs, in under 2 minutes. Friday I decided to upgrade to Media PLayer 11, (because I was fed up with it nagging me to upgrade). I performed the upgrade, and rebooted. However, since the upgrade, bootup now takes about 5 minutes, with Windows hanging at the 'running startup scripts' screen, then once you've entered your username/password, login takes another 5 minutes, with Windows just displaying the standard background, and nothing else. You can't even ctrl+alt+del to bring up task manager to…

Can't format

I have a Dell computer that I bought about 3 years ago. With time it became obsolete for the use I wanted to give it and I bought a brand new one but I consider that my old machine is a good equipment and that my nephews could still use it and I wanted to give it to them but without the burden of so many old programs that make its start up to take too long. So I thought of formating it and reinstalling the whole XP but I haven't been able to do it. I changed the boot sequence to start with the CD and I also enabled the Installing OS (or something like that) option but still when i turn on the computer with the cd labeled as "Operating System" and having…

IT - Jobs, Interview Questions, Certification

Hi, In the very fast moving IT Industry, there is a need for the people to keep a note of what is happening in the field, what are the latest Jobs available and in which technologies they are available and what companies and also in which cities. And also when applying for Jobs, it is obvious for people to look for Interview Questions in their Technologies and if they are able to find it all at one place, then they can concentrate on studying or doing R&D further on those questions and answers available. And for a better pay pack people are always in a mood of doing certification and at that time they are on a lookout for certification material a…

SP3 changing OE Newsreader settings?
by Guest Pheasant PluckerĀ®- 5 replies

Hi there, Having held off SP3 for a while until the dust settled I thought I would update all my computers. All seemed to go well apart from my main machine (isn't it always the way:-) where I rebooted and I saw the 'Setting up Outlook Express Preferences' or something similar. Why would SP3 want to do that? I see now my customised toolbar has defaulted back to something else and I don't know what else may have changed. So...why did SP3 decide to change my OE Settings and more importantly what exactly did it change apart from the toolbar that I can see? -- Thanks & regards, -=pp=-
