Windows XP SP3 handles Daylight Savings Time end incorrectly?
by Guest Joe Zygala- 16 replies

This morning (Sunday, 10/26/2008) when I got up and rebooted my 3 computers, the 2 that are at SP2 say, correctly, that they are on Eastern Daylight Time. The one running SP3 says it is on Eastern Standard Time. All three are configured the same way - (GMT - 5:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada) and Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes. Is there a bug in the SP3 code? How can I fix this?

Restart when entering standby - Solved!
by Guest Carlos- 6 replies
- 3.6k views
Three weeks ago this new issue showed up overnight in my Vista x64 PC. Putting my PC into standby would cause a sudden restart (reboot) with no error message/BSOD. Just the black and white Vista text menu giving me startup choices (Safe, etc...) because the system had not been shutdown properly. What changes had I done three weeks ago? I had switched from NVidia 8800GT to ATI 8450, and updated RAID drivers for the jmicron controller in the mainboard. Blame the raid driver, go back to the older one. No joy. Blame 5% overclocking the ATI 8450 memory, eliminate overclock. No joy. Hmmm... this ain't gonna be easy, I thought. Aha! I had set in BIOS the Atlhon x2 …

I am running Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server 4.5 on a Windows 2003 Standard Edition Server SP2 with Terminal Services. The server is an HP Proliant DL320 G5 with 3 GB of RAM and a Dual Core Xeon 2.66 GHz processor. We do not publish applications on our Citrix server just a desktop. All users use the Citrix Program Neighborhood client, version 10.100.55836. We are experiencing a problem with this server that has been going on for nearly a year now and we could really use some help. The problem starts when a user calls the Help Desk and tells us that they can't get into Citrix. We then attempt to connect as well as get the same problem. You pu…

Backup/restore strategy for Windows 2003
by Guest midwest_steve- 2 replies

I have one server that I need to backup. I've configured the backup wizard to create a full backup each night, as our server is small (it is for a school with 20 users). The backup is written to a USB drive. I would like to test the restore and have some questions: Do I have to create an ASR disk to accomplish the restore? Can I simply boot into the recovery console and restore? If so, how do I mount the USB drive? Is there a good general strategy someone can point me to? I have searched but must not be using the right terms. Thanks you!

Connecting to users desktop PC without losing IE 6 Trusted Sites
by Guest bstillion- 8 replies

Users logon to their PCs while at the office and their IE6 trusted sites are populated through a WINBATCH script. When the same user logs on from home to the TS/Citrix server and then RDP's to their desktop, all Trusted Sites get deleted. When the user returns to the office the next day, he must log on twice before his trusted sites are restored. Windows Server 2003 AD, no policies are applying any IE settings (confirmed by Microsoft Support.) including no "loopback" policy applied to the terminal servers. One of my steps to resolve was to apply a list of Trusted Sites to the default domain policy. My manager suggested moving it since that is not the b…

WMF patch - gdihook.dll infected by trojan?
by Guest Franc Zabkar- 21 replies
I've been using Paolo Monti's "GDI32 / WMF Patch" for nearly a year now but it was only recently that AVG told me that the gdihook.dll component file was infected with the BackDoor.Hupigon4.ADUA trojan. A scan at Virustotal resulted in 18 out 36 antivirus software detecting the same malware. Symantec and TrendMicro were two that didn't detect it. I'm wondering whether this is a false positive. Here are the results: http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/gdihook_dll_scan.htm The package is delivered as a single install.exe file. When this file is scanned by Virustotal, Sophos identifies "Sus/Madcode-A" malware. All other antivirus products detect nothing. I…

Reboot command no longer works in Task Scheduler
by Guest Oliver- 8 replies

The following bat script (as a file.bat) which I put on a task scheduler no longer works (W2K service pack 4). Shutdown.exe /L /R /T:120 /C How can I fix this? The shutdown has to work on each Saturday to refresh the server memory. Also, as a related solution to the above problem, how I can get the event viewer to email me an alert when it triggers certain ID code? Our main problem is that the server shutdowns expectedly and I suspect it is the event viewer getting full. So I am hoping someone will have the solutions. Oliver
