So, in Windows XP, you can right-click on the taskbar, select Toolbars > New Toolbar and select a folder or drive that you want to setup a new toolbar to for. Can somebody tell me where in the profile or registry Windows stores the source location (The drive/folder that you selected) for this toolbar? Any help would be apreciated.

Changing client TCP/IP settings remotely.
by Guest MT- 3 replies

Unfortunately, the environment I work in does not use DHCP. I need to change the primary dns server for all my desktops and servers. Is there a safe and simple way to do this without actually going to each machine? I'm sure there are some complicated scripts and I don't want to use Group Policy either. Any tools or tricks to make this happen? Thank you.

The Windows Search function doesn't work
by Guest Wallace- 4 replies

Bit of a weird one thisone.... When I go in to the Windows Search function I expect to be able to enter my search criteria. However, I don't get any boxes to enter my search criteria, only the Windows pet, which doesn't do anything when I click on it. Also the Edit pulldown menu exists but you don't get any menu appearing when you click on it! Any idea why this might be and what I might do to rectify it?

Application lock-up
by Guest gary- 5 replies

In Excel 2007, while saving a spreadsheet; selecting, deleting or inserting columns; etc, an hourglass appears on my monitor and I can hear the local hard disk spinning (the sound is more noticeable than when the hard disk is not being accessed). But, after the process ends, the hard disk repeatedly speeds up and slows down and I can't work on the spreadsheet (the hourglass remains on my monitor). Task Manager's "Application" page shows that "Microsoft Excel" is "Not Responding". And, the "Processes" page shows that the "Mem Usage" for EXCEL.EXE does not change. What is causing this problem and how can I resolve it?

Vista RDP client and printing
by Guest td- 3 replies

I have a user that recently upgraded his home PC to vista. He has a brother intellifax 2820 printer. Apparently this printer worked on his old XP PC but does not work on the new one. I have 2 questions. the first is when you go to add a printer driver in server properties when it asks what driver you want to install Vista is not an option. Also because this is a multifunction device I would like to use a simple driver that would work in its place. Can someone recommend a replacement driver for it? TIA Thomas

Is this normal?
by Guest Dan- 4 replies

I am using Windows XP Pro SP3 and use AVG 8.0 as my sole Antivirus and Antispyware protection. I scan once a week and update everyday. I have been using this product for a few years (since AVG 6) and not once (okay, maybe once or twice in three years) has it found a virus or spyware, other than tracking cookies. I don't use the internet very often except to visit "mainly" the links in my Favorites list. I also do several Google searches, but also use AVG's Link Checker to navigate to safe pages only. Is it normal to be 100% virus and spyware free, or is AVG letting viruses and spyware through without seeing it? Or maybe I am simply fortunate to not…

Xcopy not working in startup script
by Guest Slingshotz- 10 replies

This is driving me nuts and I have not been able to find any answers on any user group. This is a basic batch file script that I am deploying through group policy in the startup script to copy templates from the server to the local machine. I'm deploying it during the startup so that every computer gets it, regardless of who logs in. ========================= if NOT exist "C:\Templates" md "C:\Templates" pushd "\\servername\Templates\" xcopy *.dot C:\Templates /Y /D popd ========================= The script works perfectly when run by itself, but during the startup script when a computer starts up it keeps saying that *.dot is not found. =======…

Re: Windows XP x64 probably has bug in IPv6 Stack relating to ICMPv6.

Re: Windows XP x64 probably has bug in IPv6 Stack relating to ICMPv6. Situation is as follows: 1. Not a gui bug from my part. 2. ICMPv6 stats weren't updating because no gui code yet. 3. ICMPv6 reporter not receiving anything. 4. Ethereal is showing ICMPv6 error reports... but these are encapsulated inside IPv4 packets. (Tunneling ?!?) 5. GUI bugs caused by stack/drivers ? I wonder if encapsulated has anything to do with it... later I test a simpler example/code to see if it can receive icmpv6's at all ;) Bye, Skybuck.
