Monitoring UP Time
by Guest mcp6453- 6 replies

A non-profit organization for which I volunteer just received a donation of ten Dell computers with XP. They all have fresh installations. Normally I power up new computers and let them run a while to make sure everything is working as expected. Just now, I think one of them rebooted on its own after running for more than a day. It may have rebooted on its own before now. What utility can I use to monitor the up time such that I can tell if the computer is rebooting? (It does not have bad caps on the motherboard. Plus, it came from a company with a gigantic IT department. Presumably there was nothing wrong with the computer.)

reboot problem via terminal services
by Guest pie8ter- 2 replies

We have more than twenty windows 2003 SP2 servers in our datacenter. I use remote desktop (RDP) to manage these servers. When I reboot the servers through RDP connection, sometimes the server doesn't let me RDP again after it reboots. I physically have to go to the server room, open the rack, login and reboot the server again. Then I can make the RDP connection. Admin and application modes are enabled on the servers. This issue has caused me great pain when I reboot the servers from home. I am not sure why this is happening in all the servers. Thanks

Two specific users disconnecting each other
by Guest schkeb- 2 replies

Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition Service Pack 2 running Terminal Services Client OS: Windows XP service pack 2 Remote Desktop control version 5.1.2600.2180 The server can accept "unlimited" number of connections. In practice, about 20 users use it on a day to day basis, all having remote admin permissions. For all but two users, this is working fine, they can work at the same time. However, for the two users, if one logs on, the other cannot log on without disconnecting the first user. It is only affecting these two users. Cloned the AD account of one user, to see if that solved anything. It didn't. Any ideas? Thanks

Hello I have a problem with VC++ EE. Sorry if it's very trivial problem but I honestly just have begun with programing in windows. I have made an application in VC++ .NET EE and I would like it to work on every computer not only those which has Visual C++ EE installed. The other computer has installed Framework .NET 3.5 and i have simply copied program from <project folder>\Debug (or Release) and system says: "This application has failed to start because the application confuguration is incorrect. Reinstalling application may fix this problem." What do I need in other this application to work? Regards =)

GoBack vs Restore
by Guest LMO- 11 replies

Aloha all. I have been using GoBack since way before Symantec stole it. I like it, as it simply rolls back my system and drives to before any unfortunate event or virus, etc. Right now I have both GoBack and System Restore running. I realize this is redundant, and wonder which is the better one to keep running. I have hit points with Restore where it is unable to restore to a point. never happened with GoBack. Just curious on this. Any opinions? Thanks.

Windows XP Registry Cleaner

If you have a new computer, then you will definitely need a Windows XP registry cleaner. I think the registry itself is not going to need fixing, if you don't ever do anything to your computer. But, once you start installing software, uninstalling software, making shortcuts on your desktop to your favorite programs, and even surfing the internet, you will need a good Windows XP registry cleaner. Let us cover the basics on what the registry files do, and why they are important. The registry files are the files, which tell the computer how a program is supposed to operate. It gives the basic instructions on what the program is suppose to do, and when it is suppose…

TS not updating key for roaming profile
by Guest ChrisInRIC- 0 replies

Has anyone else seen where a terminal server is not updating the following key appropriately: \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Terminal Services\WFProfilePath We were migrating the file server to a new platform. The Profiles share was moved to a new server. Each users TS Profile path was updated in AD. The two controllers (both local) were synch'd. But the three Terminal Servers would not look to the new server. Found that key was still pointing at the old server. We manually edited the key, but does anyone have an idea as to how it should have worked? And why it might have failed? Thanks, Chris

Hi, and thanks. The big picture is that i'm attempting to set up Wireless (802.1x) Authentication. I have a Windows Server 2008 Standard (non DC) operating as the Enterprise CA. I've created a new certificate template. In the CA when I attempt to add a New Certificate Template to Issue the newly created certificate is not shown in the Enable Certificate Templates list. I've set Read, Enroll and Autoenroll permissions on the certificate for authenticated users, domain computers, and RAS and IAS servers. I know that Windows Server 2003 requires Enterprise or Datacenter edition, is that also a requirement for Windows Server 2008? Any help would be …

Hi Any thoughts about why my PC is suddenly running dead slow? It is running Windows XP Pro (SP3). I last updated it about 20 days ago. And then it started running slow about 2 days ago. I have now installe dall the latest patches but it is still dog-slow. I have various things installed but which I have now EXITED including: Windows Search, Google Desktop, Logmein.com and SpyBot - Search & Destroy. I notice in Windows "Task Manager" that even just after on a cold re- boot, I have 7 copies of "svchost.exe". They are not taking any CPU time though. In fact the CPU is running at about 2-3%. But when I open FireFox, it takes a VERY long time to…

Local admin versus domain admin on windows 2008
by Guest BrianB- 6 replies

We have several x32 2008 std servers that we are testing with. They belong to the domain and the local administrators group contains the domain admins group. We are moving an app from a 2003 server to a 2008 server. When trying to install a custom service, we get an access denied error with a domain admin account. The only account that will create the service is the local admin. Is there a way to give the domain admins the same privilages as the local admin account? Thanks, Brian

Hi all Total AD novice here. Windows Server2003, Exchange Server2003 A bit of background to the problem....... I have a number of users with Blackberry devices controlled by a BES server. For the arrangement to work, the BES administration account needs send and receive permissions for each Blackberry user. I don't understand how this was set up, but adding the user to a Blackberry users group should make this happen. However AIUI, it is necessary for the "Allow inheritable permissions.." checkbox to remain ticked on the Advanced tab under the user's security settings for these permissions to stay in place. For some reason, one user in particular keeps…

I need help. Yesterday while on the computer, a box popped up on my desktop that says: Warning spyware dected on your computer. I have managed to get a bunch of spyware off of my computer, but this big box on my desktop will not go away. I am not computer tech savvy, but can follow instructions. Can someone out there help me?
