Deploying Server 2008 Terminal Services in a SBS 2003 environment.
by Guest XateEsix- 3 replies

Hello, I am working on deploying Server 2008 Terminal Services in a Small Business Server 2003 environement. I have several questions I need assistance with. 1. As I understand it TS CALS are included as part of the SBS CAL. Can someone confirm this? 2. I was told by a Microsoft Sales Support Rep that Server 2008 Terminal Services could be deployed using the SBS 2003 CALs. Can anyone confirm this? 3. If the answers to questions 1 & 2 are both true then can someone help me understand how it needs to be configured to work? 4. What version and on what server should the license server be running? In testing the terminal services work fine on the 20…

Windows Security Center is not working
by Guest Alex Levi- 1 reply

I was probably infected by some sort of a virus. When I deleted it (at least I think I am) I'm getting Windows Security Alert icon on my task bar, telling me that my Automatic Updates is turned off. When I click on "Turn on Automatic Updates" in the Security Center, I'm getting the following error: "We're sorry. The Security Center could not change your Automatic Update settings. To try changing these settings yourself, go to System in Control Panel. On the Automatic Updates tab, select Automatic (recommended), and then click OK." When I change these settings manually in the control panel, nothing happens and the Alert Icon is still there. How can …

Changing default email program

I have been using Eudora for email for a long time. I intend to keep using it. I just installed Thunderbird to see what it does. During installation it asked me if I wanted to set Thunderbird as the default email program, but I did not understand what it was asking until too late. Now Thunderbird is the default. I DO NOT want TB to be the default, I still want Eudora to be the default. The older version of Eudora I use does not have this setting, so I am not sure how to get back Eudora as the default email software. Where is this setting located? If it's in the registry, I can change it with regedit, but I just dont know where this setting is locate…

Stop error 0x0000007B

I have a client with a Dell 8400 Windows XP computer. Recently, on boot, he received: STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF789E524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) I have since tried everything, including replacing the hard drive, motherboard, video card, memory, CD drives, SATA cables and removing all other PCI cards. With a clean install of Windows XP, the installation works fine until the first reboot, then the message reappears. I am completely stumped as to how this message can continue to appear with virtually every piece except the CPU changed. Does anybody have any ideas? Aaron Stamboulieh -MCSE

I know how to change the icons for Folders, but I am not sure how to do this for files, since the menu tabs that appear when I right click on the file and select 'Properties' is different than when I do the same on a Folder. Is there a way that this is possible -- for me to change the icon for specific files such as a .txt file, or a word .docx file, etc. ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. RE: DVD SOFTWARE IN WINDOWS XP
by Guest NashvilleGuy- 1 reply

RE: DVD SOFTWARE IN WINDOWS XP I can't find how to start a new thread, but this one seems appropriate. My Dell Inspiron 2200 with XP was advertised as reading and writing DVDs. I[ve deduced that it is the SONIC software which came with the computer which does this. But I have a lot of trouble. I get this message: "DLA can read files on this disc but you will not be able to edit or add to them." I find out that DLA is some Sonic code. I am tring to use DVD+RW, which are supposed to be read/write and editable. SO, I assume Sonic is the hang-up - maybe trying to get me to send money for an upgrade. I'm not about to do that, because I'm trying to …

Hi everyone, I am trying to migrate all of the printers (about 50 printers and most are HP) from Windows 2000 server to new built Winodws 2003 server. I was able to backup as a cab file using Printer Migrator 3.1 from old Windows 2000 print server. However, when I tried to restore the cab file to new Windows 2003 server. It gave me an error message (must have to install HP JetAdmin) in the middle of process. Here is the error: WARNING: The following service (print monitor) must to be installed on the target and the restore re-run -SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\HP JetAdmin. Where to download dotnet 3.0 SP1 full package ?
by Guest Hari Hari Mau- 14 replies

Hello. We have some secured PCs that are not connected to the internet. I have downloaded the dotnetfx 3.0 and installed in these PCs quite some time ago, and am thinking of downloading the dotnetfx 3.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) to update those machines. Unfortunately, all that I can get is that "dotnetfx30sp1setup.exe" file that requires PCs to be connected to the internet to get the SP1. Is there a full package of dotnetfx 3.0 SP1 available for download? Thank you all !

Hello. Currently, I don't have internet connection at home. I can only access internet thru the library. But, the library computer doesn't allow me to burn cds. Is there a website where I can save program files from another website or one where I can save downloaded program files? I would like to download a program file and then save it in a website until I can get internet connection at home. The reason I want to do this is because I'm not sure the website that offers the file will be around for long. It might go away. I would just like to save it in a website until the day I can get internet connection at home. Then, I'll be able to download the fi…

telling the computer to hibernate when you already have preventshibernate from working

telling the computer to hibernate when you already have preventshibernate from working Sometimes, I'll hit the hibernate item from the drop down menu in the Task Manager and a few minutes later (ie. far longer than it normally takes), I hit it again thinking maybe my first initial hitting of it didn't get registered or something. Only problem is... when I do this, it doesn't hibernate at all. I do it because the computer doesn't hibernate within a few minutes. I then do something that takes about twenty minutes, come back, and find it hasn't hibernated at all. Maybe it never would have hibernated in the first place, but, either way, it is kinda annoying, …

When it was new, my USB 2.0 Cardbus PC Card Adapter worked fine. Now when I attempt to insert it into its slot, my notebook just freezes up. I am forced to reboot. Everything is fine afterwards, as long as I don't have the card in. I have always been running XP SP2, even when the card worked. What is causing this? Is this a driver problem? Am I allowed to use an updated driver compatible with Vista?

Hello people Have Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro laptop with built in touchpad. Unfortunately the mouse jumps around while I'm in the middle of typing. It has done this ever since it was new. It isn't always because I touch it. Advanced text services are off already. The mouse driver doesn't allow sensitivity to be adjusted, or even tap clicks to be disabled (no, it really doesn't). Have tried installing different mouse driver from manufacturers website, also doing updates from microsoft update. To my knowledge I haven't damaged the touchpad. Suggestions??

Of Mice and Men

This is actually a serious question: Can ball mice ever wear out? I have this ball mouse at home and sometimes it gets stuck when I try to move it to the left, I end up having to bang it gently (if that's not a contradiction) and then it goes on its way. Now, Do I just need to get the dust outta there or can ball mice actually wear out? Also, can pressing hard on a mousepad and frequent use wear out the ball/mouse roller thingies? (As in, when nerdy kids like me play real time strategy games all the time that demand precision point and clicks) Basically, I'm wondering if I need to replace or just clean my ball mouse, and if so, if to get an infrare…

failing to start XP Pro
by Guest Geoff- 2 replies

Recently my computer failed to load Win XP Pro SP2 (seemingly a problem with a video card, BSOD referred to an ATI driver). Fitted another video card and received basically the same BSOD message this time referring to the new video card driver. The Windows splash screen would show, then the computer would go into a continous loop of wanting to Start Windows Normally (?) and would not allow me to make any other choices such as safe mode etc. I then went into the BIOS settings and change the first boot device to CD (the second being the hard drive), placed the XP Pro disc into the CD reader (with a view to doing a "Repair" installation) BUT the computer continued to…
