Hi. I need to split a large file into several smaller to fit them on CD:s... Is there functionality for this in Windows XP? If not... can someone recommend software for this (preferrably freeware).

hi . i was trying to replace my shell32.dll with the one from vista . first i have found a guide how to edit shell32.dll, so i opened the registry and edit the winlogon part. second i copied the new shell32.dll as shell3.dll. i went to safe mode with command prompt and entered "cd c:\windows\system32" i hit enter then i typed "ren shell32.dll shell2.dll" enter then "ren shell3.dll shell32.dll" . i closed the command prompt window. i shutted down pc fom keyboard.when i restarted i received error after boot

My winfax is not functioning so I have to revert to the fax on win xp. It receives ok but i can't see anything more than the first page. The size indicates that more than 1 page was received but when I open it, I can only see the first page. Any help. Thanks Sonny

I have two computers, running XP Pro and Home respectively. They've both had recent reinstalls, and both display folder contents as icons. How can I reset them to dispay lists?

Does anyone know how to 'unlock' a locked login script? Other than reboot the server. The script in question is a simple .cmd batch file that gets locked, so I can't overwrite it with changes. The server is running Windows Server R2 SP2 x64 in cluster configuration, tools like ProcessExplorer don't run on x64. Until now I have solved it by copying the script to a new folder and then move the share, but it would be nice with a proper solution. - Bjarne Duelund

I have a file on my XP PRO SP2 desktop that I cannot delete. The icon for the file has a washed-out look. When I try to delete the file I receive this message: "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk". The filename is: run[1].just.3.Ultra.Edition.3.3.6.0..Working.Fe. a while back I started having a major performance degradation when selecting all and copying files - like in a folder where there may be 3000 files, if I select all and then copy, I may have as much as a 30 second lag before I can go somewhere else and paste. Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

I have a firewire hard drive used for backup purposes (Norton Ghost). Although no programs appear to be using it I get a message saying "one or more programs is using this device . . " when I try to safely remove it by clicking on the icon in the system tray. Is there a program that will find out what is using the drive so we can stop it? --

I was infected with a virus. It has since been removed. However, my desktop now acts different. The start button bottom left no longer has programs or log off tabs. My computer no longer lists "C" drive. I now have a white box in the upper left of the desktop that appears to be a list of my network places. Although I am listed as the Administrator, I cannot access the properties of the desktop. I get a message that states that the administrator has restricted access. Hi, There is a legacy application that runs fine from Win 98 SE up till Win 2003 Server. The application makes connectivity to an HTTPS URL. When the app is to use proxy server for its connectivity, the application crashes in Win 2K3 SP2 Server and the same works for other operating systems (even in Win 2K3 Server without SP1 or SP2). Hello. I'm experiencing a problem with windows 2008 terminal server and my windows 2008 licens server. The problem is quite simple: The license server dosent give licenses to my 2008 terminal servers but it will however give out licenses to windows 2003 servers. This leads me to belive that there's some setting I've overlooked at my license server or my 2008 terminal servers. My TS can discover the license server and bring up information about how many cals and so forth so they can see and bring up information from the licens server. I have a Windows Media Center machine with three users (plus the "Administrator") The "Administrator" user, reached only by Ctrl-Alt-Del at the login screen, seems to work fine. When we login to any of the users, we get the "Application Error - The instruction referenced at location could not be "read"" Obviously not verbatim, but this does not occur in the Administrator account. A virus was removed, which I believe the remnants result in the App Error. I can get into the registry through the Administrator, but cannot with the users. Used to see an icon/thumbnail in the Left Folder Details Pane when mouse hovers over a file. That feature has disappeared. There is a registry key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\* Details which contains the properties to display and I can alter the display by changing this but don't know the property name to show an icon/thumbnail preview. I'd like to install a ramdrive and replaced the existing volume 'drive D' with the ramdrive. 'D' can be renamed to any empty drive letter ... just wouldn't it any more. Is it possible to do what I want? If so, can someone explain how, or direct me to web information which explains it? Thanks

Hi I've installed Window XP (x64) in my new pc. However, after installed, it shows window recovered from a serious error. Sometimes, it will reboot again and again. I surf from the network, and there is webpage in microsoft talking about reinstall some driver. I use my DVD (about motherboard, there are many drivers there), and install all right by checking device manager. But still the error message keep on showing. Does anybody know how to fix it? Mike

I recently used Windows Live Meting for a one-time use. Now, it keeps popping up, and shows up in my taskbar on the right. I right click and close it, but after a wakeup from standby it's back. I went into its Tools | Otions | General and unchecked the appropriate boxes. Any reason for this Dracula-like behavior?
