iTunes download screwed up my computer
by Guest dubiousraves- 3 replies

Hi. I just downloaded the latest version of iTunes, and it's wrecked my CD/DVD functionality. (This happened to me once before, too, but I assumed it was a broken optical drive, so I installed a new one.) The only thing that works now is playing songs in the iTunes library. If I try to play a CD or DVD, there's a ticking sound, and distortion. This is true even if I used a different player from iTunes. If I try to upload a CD into iTunes, iTunes does it, but at about 1/15th the normal speed, and all other computer functions are slowed down drastically while the upload is occurring. Any ideas on fixing this? Thanks, Dave

XP Turn off / restart
by Guest Lil' Dave- 2 replies

Not a big deal, but I thought I would ask... Using Trend AV payfor version 2007. All up to date. When I use the turn off option, and turn off the computer, all is normal. When I use the restart option, 2 subsequent instances of tavsvc.exe errors occur and point at memory locations during the closing process. I have the option of either to "end now" or "cancel" for both errors. If I choose "end now" for both, PC restarts normally. If I choose to do nothing, about 5 seconds later, all closes, and the PC restarts normally. If I choose "cancel", it still closes and restarts normally. However, I've noticed that some windows updates initiate a restart. W…

Nothing Happens
by Guest icart89- 3 replies

I got my computer back about a week ago with a new hard drive since the old one was failing. I planned on installing a game but when I put the cd in, some lights would flicker, and then nothing happens. I tried in the CD and DVD ROM, disabled McAfee On-Access Scan, and tried to run it but I can't because my backslash key does not work. When I push it, I get a W with a line going through it horizontally, instead. On my old harddrive(with less memory), the game installed just fine. (Old harddrive/ware? had 200, new one has 250) I know playing a game isn't the most important thing in my life, but my sister paid $238 for the new harddrive so I want it to …

Is there a fundamental reason why a dos progam that switches the display to 640 x 480 x 16 color VGA mode can't run in a resizable (or even fixed size) window on either win-98 or XP? But instead it must run in full-screen mode?

Reinstalling XP Home on Dell without original reinstall disc?
by Guest redyellowgreenblue@gmail.com- 2 replies

Hi I've got a Dell desktop that I want to reinstall Windows XP Home on (I'm on SP3 at the moment). I have no idea where my reinstall disc is. What I do have is the OEM code that's on Control Panel/System. I also have the stick which tells me the product key. These two codes are different - which I didn't expect. Can I just buy a cheap Windows XP Home disc off Ebay and then use my own codes?

Does the RPC Attack affect Win 98?

Does the RPC attack affect Win 98? M$ Security Bulletin: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS08-067.mspx The Bulletin states: Customers who require custom support for older releases must contact their Microsoft account team representative, their Technical Account Manager, or the appropriate Microsoft partner representative for custom support options Does this mean M$ is still supporting 98 for people with custom contracts? The bulletin also states in the FAQs" What systems are primarily at risk from the vulnerability? While all workstations and servers are at risk regarding this issue, systems running Microsoft Windows…

media player help
by Guest Caught- 0 replies

I have a 'little' laptop connected to a larger monitor. When ever I wish to play a music video, media player appears in the laptop screen, but completely fills the large monitor screen. Naturally all 'work' is done on the large, easy to read monitor. With the large monitor 'fill' I am snookered, and unable to do any further work. Is there any way I can have the music video playing solely in the laptop screen? Thanks in advance - plus I hope this is clear.

by Guest Ray K- 3 replies

When my friend's computer was using Windows ME, it displayed true colors (32 bits). Now that I "upgraded" it to Windows 2000 Professional, it will display only 16 colors. I don't know where to look for the driver. The system is as follows: *Motherboard *– AMD Jetway 861CS KLE133 Chipset: North Bridge VIA VT 8361 Apollo KLE133 VIA chip VT 82C686B *Display PCI/AGP Video* – Trident CyberBlade-i7 Video adapter I tried the AMD and VIA sites, but couldn't find anything for W2K. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Ray

Browser Hijack Help.

OK, it was dumb. I lent my laptop to my friend - Honest! In any case, all of a sudden I got virus alerts, I tried to clean with my AVG and Spybot - Not! Tried a SYS-Restore - Nope. Couldn't even launch Taskman. Installed Panda - scanned - it helped. Installed KasperSky - helped even more. Eventually, I got the system to the point where all is well - except the following: 1) Any Microsoft site (Win Update - either typing in the url or the shortcut from the menu bar) redirects to some random site, 2) I can hit my home page of Google (ca, us or any) all is well. When I enter a search, it seems to be fine, then all of a sudden redirected. Usually the…

Read all about it here: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/10/23/windows-vista-service-pack-2-sp2-pre-beta-600216489-released-to-selected-testers/ Of course, hackers have already managed to create a registry hack that allows you to download this risky and unstable download. I won't post the web page where that modification is made public, it might even cause a further damage in the stock market and worldwide economy or a distortion in the space continuum! ;) Carlos

Hi, I have three computers in my home and two of them download and installed sp3 without any problem. The third (all of them are using xp pro) downloaded the sp3 update and when the computer was rebooting, the message came up "set up was interrupted. Restoring prior configuration." I tried disabling my antivirus program and installing sp3 again that the same thing occurred. I ordered the CD from Microsoft and tried installing sp3 again. Same thing happened again. I went to C:/windows and looked in the spv3 file and found the following: 449.656: Service Pack 3 installation did not complete. 250.297: Service Pack 3 Setup encountered an error: Th…
