Unable to create basic domain trust between two Windows 2003 domains - logon servers not available ? Hi. I am currently trying to create a basic one way non-transitive trust between two Windows 2003 domains. We will be merging the domains of two companies in the future but for the time being need to give one domain access to resources in another. Both domains are standalone within their own forest i.e. domain1.net is the only domain in the domain1.net forest and domain2.net is the same. Both domain1 and domain2 have Windows Server 2003 domain and forest functional levels. So far I have created Stub zones on the DNS servers in each domain i.e. domai…

Corrupt file names
by Guest yaro137@googlemail.com- 0 replies

I noticed that I have a large number of files with corrupted names on one of our servers. Most of them have dots underneath some letters in file names. If the dot is below the last letter I can just put the prompt at the end of the file name and hit backspace once which removes the dot but not the last letter fixing the file name in this way. Any idea what might have caused that problem? We have a mixed Windows MacOS environment so I also wandering whether that's not the source of the problem. Thanks for any help. yAro

Hello: I currently have the Technet eval of Windows Server 2008 Enterprise installed and Hyper-V is configured. I just purchased a license for Standard Edition to use on this hardware going-forward. Is it possible to do an in-place downgrade from Enterprise to Standard? If so, how could I accomplish this task without losing my Hyper-V configuration? Thanks!

problems with 32.dll when loading drivers 1 2

'95 'group included as I use the '95 shell, via 98lite "Sleek" option. I recently had a play with soporific's UBCD, a. k. a. "Windows 98, 10th anniversary edition". I think a vast amount of work has gone into it, and when installed from scratch as I did on a laptop for a friend, it worked well (including the universal USB driver). However, as with many such things, trying to install over an existing system (even though it does include an option to do so) is more problematical. Anyway: I've finally got my original system back, due to use of some ERDs from before I tried it, with one exception (that I know so far, anyway): it initially manifested as t…

problems apparently with rundll32 when loading drivers

With apologies for the repost - one positive outcome of the first one was that I discovered that what I thought was a valid cut-and-paste wasn't: for some reason the two surviving newsgroups have slightly different punctuations in their name. (Positive suggestions only, please - the details of my problem have been lost in the heat on the other thread, and please post to that one if your only contribution is to say I'm in the wrong place!) I recently checked the Event Viewer for System in my computer and discovered that nothing has been logged there since 8/28/2004. Does that mean I've had no errors or anything to be logged or does it mean that somehow the logging has gotten turned off? I do show current log information for Antivirus and Application, but wonder why System stopped in August 2004? Any info greatly appreciated. Patty

Reinstalling Windows on another HDD w/ same CD key
by Guest Ian Coolidge- 2 replies

I made the fatal flaw of building a system with a PATA hard drive instead of a SATA hard drive. After living with it for 6 months I decided enough was enough and I went out and bought 2 SATA hard drives for a RAID0 configuration. I don't wanna spend another 100+ dollars on a new CD key nor do I want to wait for my Student MSDN liscense to renew in October to get another (basically free) copy of Windows. Is there a way I can reinstall windows using the same CD key I used before? I hear if I activate over the phone it is easier to do since I talk to an actual person. Can anyone give me some guidance in this? Is it possible to do? Thanks, -Ian

Hi, I have a server that a bunch of people access. They have read access to a folder. I have another server that a small group accesses and stores image files on. I have a batch file that uses xcopy to copy the files up to the first server once a week. My question is: is there a switch so that xcopy only copies the files that have changed? or does it do this by default? Thanks. Kevin
