Hi My XP machinces are running slower then usual. I intalled XP 6 months ago and now users are complaining that their machines are working slower then normal. I reinstalled the Win XP on one of the computer and this computer is working normally. We have not made any changes on our network and we have not installed any new software on the client computers. These machines are completely clean. Has any one encoutered this kind of problem? Does XP become slower over the time? Do we need to reinstall it after some time? Secondly, Can anyone recommend good registry cleaner and system cleaner software to tune up my xp machine? Thanks in advance

Hi, I have an NT server that I want to virtualize. It has a disk that shows as local, but it is mapped from a share on another drive. Does anyone know how to unmap this drive. I have other mapped network drives, but they do not look like this one, they look like normal networked drives. I can send you a screen shot if this doesn't make sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cannot Logon to other users of the same computer
by Guest Jingshan- 0 replies

Hi, I notice that I seems to have a similar problem as encountered by one of the users, Carl. All along, I haven't had any problem logging on to other users in the same computer, until recently. I tried to logon onto other users, I keep receiving this error message 'Windows are unable to load your profile. Pls check that you are connected to the network. Add. details: insufficient resources exist to complete the requested service'. What does the above error means? Is there any other way to resolve this issue rather then create a new user and copy the files from the old users to the new user?

Mandatory Profiles loading slow on XP Pro
by Guest Luke- 0 replies
I'm using Mandatory profiles on PC's in one of my labs on Server 2003 network. The profiles load very slow and I can't figure out why. I don't see anything abnormal in the event view and was curious of other ways to do some logging. When I log on, the "Loading your personal settings" is very quick < 5 seconds "Applying your personal setting" is the slow part >60 seconds Logging off also takes significant time also. "Logging off" >40 seconds "Saving settings" <5 seconds The reason I believe this isn't normal is because I have other PC's in another lab that are much quicker, but were ghosted from a different image. They load much …

Why do I have to leave & rejoin the domain to make logins work?
by Guest JoshGfromPortland- 12 replies

Every so often I get the following message when trying to login with my virtual machines: "Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable, or because your computer account was not found. Pleast try again later. If this message continues to appear, contact your system administrator for assistance." To fix the problem I have to leave and rejoin the domain. But I don't know what is causing this to break. I am running Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 and Windows XP Pro SP3 on the virtual machines. I'm fairly certain there are no other virtual machines or physical machines with the same computer names.…

I'm having trouble with wingrub. The problem is that it won't load menu.lst Here is setup: SATA drive= NTFS Windows on C: IDE drive= Solaris with its grub on MBR the problem might be caused by strange thing that after loading windows, SATA drive becomes (hd1,0) but in grub its (hd0,0) so grub is trying to load menu.lst from solaris, but I cannot change that in windows.. if I try: grubinstall -d (hd0,0) -1 c:/boot/stage1 -2 c:/boot/stage2 -m c:/boot/ menu.lst it says that hd0 is not NTFS or FAT (because its Solaris) please help me solve this..

Offline Files not Syncing/Windows Media Player Error (LENGTHY)
by Guest Zakhary- 1 reply

I admit that everything was working and that -I- messed it up. To allow "My Documents" to be shared between two computers, I set one of the computers' (\\zm01) "My Documents" folder to be shared and redefine the other computer's (\\zm02) target to the share name of the "My Documents" folder on \\zm01. It recently came to me that I may wat to restict access since a few people share this home network. So, I tried by disabling easy share and setting permissions, but realized that \\zm02\username could not be given permissions since a common domain doesn't exist. I then changed the share name to include a dolar symbol ($) at the end so that it would be h…

Not all printers are showing up using RemoteAPP
by Guest Saucer Man- 23 replies

We are using RemoteAPP with Server 2008. At a remote location, our user is trying to print from the app but when he goes to select the printer from the app, only a few of his printers are showing up. If he goes to START-SETTINGS-PRINTERS, all his printers are there. I can't find anything in common with the printers that do show up in the RemoteAPP. One of the printers lives at the office, another lives at his remote location, the other are the Microsoft Document Writers. He really needs to printer to a PDFPrinter that is on his laptop. This PDF printer converts the documents to a PDF File. Anyone know how to correct this? -- Thanks!

What's the latest word on virtualizing Windows 2003 Terminal Server? The last thing I heard ...it wasn't a good idea....no net gain from doing it and you limit yourself to around 20 users before it starts to suffer performance issues. True?

I have 5 user accounts on my Windows XP Home computer and they have all been working fine until about a week ago. My sons account is now acting like it it is a brand new account. He gets a USER ENVIRONMENT dialog box with the following message..."Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible cause of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile..." The background screen went to a deafult background instead of the picture he had up and none of his account connections are working. Any ideas as to what file may be corrupt or what I might be able to do to get the account working properly without deleting it? Thanks for …

Question on Windows XP Media Center operating system
by Guest Jim- 7 replies

Several years ago I purchased a new HP laptop with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002 as the operating system. I've downloaded the latest security files and service packs but my system always indicates "Media Center Edition 2002 SP3". However, the Microsoft Windows web site talks about a version called XP Media Center Edition 2005. Is this a newer version that must be purchased since I can't seem to upgrade to this edition. TIA

Moving Windows Update Files

Hi all, I am running out of room on my C: drive on a Win2003 R2 server. I noticed in the C:\Windows folder there are a lot of compressed folders that whose name starts with $NTUninstall and I believe those are folders that Windows Update puts there. Is there a safe way to move those folders without messing up my server? It would be nice If I could get rid of them, as some of them are quite big. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Empty Folders
by Guest miner- 2 replies

I am using Windows XP with SP3 and all recent updates. Also AVG antiviral program and have 4 partitions on my hard drive with one used exclusively for programs. Recently I noticed that almost all my folders were empty in one partition and encountered only one empty folder in an another partition. Otherwise the computer is running well without any problems. Using Acronis I reverted to a backup I had done on Feb 20th wondering whether some recent update or SP3 had caused this problem, but the folders are still empty. Is there any way to remedy this situation or recover the information and does this indicate a hard drive problem? Corrupted software? How c…

Will Vista Ultimate 64 Install Cleanly on a 16 GB Box?
by Guest Peter de B. Harrington- 18 replies

Hi: I am building a system for numerical computation. I am using a ECS P45T-A LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard with 4 memory slots and the OCZ 16 GB DDR2 800 Quad Kit. I would like to know in advance will Vista Ultimate SP1 be installable on this system? The reason I asked is that I read reports that Vista has a bug that prevents it from installing on systems populated with more than 2 GBs of RAM. The work around is to remove all but 2 GBs and then install, but clearly in this case that will not be possible. I also would like to imagine that this bug would have been eliminated with SP1. Thanks in advance, Pete
