Legacy Operating Systems

I am running Windows 2003 server (DC). We have an Adult, Children's and Teen department. I just finished creating a GP for the Teen Department. I would like to copy this GP to the Children's group now and make a few changes for that department as well. I would also like to rename the copied GP for the Teen Dept. How do I go about doing this? I followed the directions for copying a GPO from the MS web site and that worked fine. But when I tried to rename the GP in the Children's Department, it also renamed the GP that I copied it from? I'm trying to avoid having to create a new GP for Childrens from scratch.

Yesterday I installed a slave drive and with the help of this group I was finally able to get a drive letter assigned and have it recognized by My Computer. THEN, last night when my wife turned off the computer, windows updates were installed. This morning, NO slave drive. Disk Mgmt., Partition Magic and Diskpart all see the drive. I can't seem to get a drive letter assigned to it. I'm trying to do it with diskpart. When I type ASSIGN it just gives me a list of commands again. Hi, I have a clients computer that is infected with a nasty virus. Even McAfee will not clean it. Anyhow, I found instructions on how to clean it, but I need to boot into DOS to remove some files. Where or how can I create a boot CD so I can boot this laptop into DOS? The disk is NTFS, so that makes it an issue.... Thanks!

Hi, I do not endorse piracy. You use it - you pay for it. MS has a legitimate right to protect their commercial interests. It's one of those self evident statements that are tough to argue against. However, as with all things the devil is in the detail. MS Does not have the right to kick down my door at 3 am to see if I have a COA on hand. Sounds absurd? How about this? my pc is a compaq presario running windows xp home edition ok, not sure where to start, but here it goes...about 2 wks ago i ran disc cleanup and defrag, then the system shut itself down, turned it back on and it went to bsod...i then did system restore, however there was no where to restore it too...so i did the restore anyway...it restored back to when we first bought it in 2005...i have done the updates for windows and microsoft, no problem, the entire system runs much faster and smoother now...but now, the norton internet security 2008 i purchased in may 2008, won't install(it was removed when restore done), i've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, keep …

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 with XP SP2, with DSL connection. I recently downloaded several Microsoft updatesand have it set to automatic. However it wasn't able to download the Security Update KB921596 for some reason and I have tried several times but keeps giving me a 0x57A error. In addition the automatic update icon keeps coming back but each time i try it it fails. Can anyone assist me and tell me how to go about getting this resolved? Thanks, Robert

Last night I "attempted" to d/l Windows XP Service Pack 3. After a lengthy d/l and isntall, I rebooted my desktop computer (I am writing this from my laptop) and instantly received B.S.O.D. and now my desktop will not even restart in safe mode. I am getting no where; it is an endless cycle of restarts and B.S.O.D, and no safe mode, even though I select it ... the computer just starts up again ... over and over. It appears I will now have to do a wipe of the HD and re-install Windows ... and am not happy to say the least. I would greatly appreciate any expert answers that address this question.

I have files under my picture folder which contain photographs I have scanned in. They are grouped by the year they were taken. In each year file I manually rearranged them in chronological order. However, when I try copying a year file to a flash drive for back-up, the pictures in the target file get sorted alphabetically. Is there a simple way I can keep the pictures in the order I want?

Recently I have to re-enter a password everytime I go to websites where I have created passwords. I have chacked the "YES, remember my member ID and password so that I don't have to sign in each time". Everytime I go back to the site the box is not checked. Hi Guys, I have just connected and installed a driver for a new Western Digital External Hard Drive. It all seems to be functioning properly, there are not error messages in the device manager, however the drive does not appear in "MY COMPUTER". I've even downlaoded a dignostics program from WD and it can read the drive, however I cannot explore it. Can anyone help? Cheers, Jane

I want to test a third party software and need to 'Turn Off' TS temporarily. Can it be turned off/on without having to reconfigure, enter licence info again etc. Of course there would be no users using TS at the time. -- Regards Tom

I've a TS Gateway published to the internet, which is remote.domain.com, settings is done properly to authenticate server via SSL, yet whenever i connect to internal TS servers via the TS Gateway, it gives me the message that says" identity of the server can't be verified because there is no license for the internal server name that i'm trying to connect to, but it is for the name of the TS Gateway which i'm connecting through!! what is wrong? AVG8.0 has treated the AsusUpdate (7.13.04 ) as a trojan (a back door trojan). When I download the latest version or update it via the AsusUpdate program, it is locked by AVG as an threat alert !!! I am trying to cancel an installation of Windows XP Pro. I discovered that I am using the wrong disc (installed on another machine) and want to install Windows Home. However the machine is putting me thru hell by not allowing me to cancel the installation, it simply keeps cycling to the point where it asks for the product key over and over. Removing the disc generates an error that causes a reboot that asks for the disc and then goes thru install again and is in an infinite friggin loop. I am completely fed up. How can I stop this?

I get the above message when I run briefcase. The files it shows are identical, so why is it showing them at all. Because of this the briefcase is always showing as needing to be updated. What has gone wrong here?

In the past, when I clicked on a .jpg file a microsoft (I think) viewer would show me the photo. I recently had to reload all software and now a third party software is doing it. I want to go back to the microsoft ... or have the ability to change the default photo viewer. How can I do that? Thanks much! Mike

Hi all, I have two scheduled tasks: One to have wizmo force the computer to standby at 10 pm, the other to start Internet Explorer at 6:15 am to wake the computer from standby. Both tasks work fine, but upon wakeup, the monitor doesn't turn on. I have to move the mouse to wake up the monitor. This isn't really a problem at all obviously as I have to move the mouse anyway; more of a discussion point/loose end to tie up: Is there something to run at the command line to force the monitor to turn on? That way I could put the IE startup and the monitor wakeup command in a batch file and run that instead at 6:15. If not, is there some setting somewhere…

Hi, My computer (with WindowsXP) was accidentally restored. A FPGA simulation software Modelsim PE 6.2c student version, which is obsolete now, cannot removed. It is not shown in Control panel. There is no uninstall function either. The same version cannot be found because it is substitute with the newer version. Could you tell me how to remove this obsolete software? Thanks a lot.
