Legacy Operating Systems

Hi there, I recently purchased a used Dell 2650 and need to re-install the OS. The server shipped originally with Windows Server Enterprise 2003, 1-8 CPU, 25 Clt. I have the Product Key on the CoA on the case of the server but no CD/DVD media. My first point of call will of course be Dell but I am guessing they will only have replacement media for R2 in stock. Should Dell be unable to supply replacement media what other options do I have? Would Microsoft be willing to replace the media? Is it possible to obtain an evaluation version and enter my Product Key to 'unlock' it as the previous owner seems to think? Failing all of the above options i…

I got a new WD 320 GB IDE ATA hdd, but plugging it in as second drive (drive "1") it shows up in Disk Management as "Unallocated" with size = 128 GB. Help! Should I f-disk or format it? And why does the "WELCOME TO THE WRITE SIGNATURE AND UPGRADE WIZARD" screen pop up wanting me to create a 'dynamic disk'? I'd sure like to get it installed as a 320Gb disk if that is possible. Or as partitions that total that size if I must. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Bob

When I move my mouse pointer over the icons in the Taskbar/Notification Bar, I have previously been able to see the status and/or names of these icons. Now when I move the mouse pointer over them, nothing shows at all. Has a setting changed?

We currently have a TS box 2003 server users connect to it via windows xp RDP or the TS web off the box if we add another TS box then box 1 failed can the connection goes to box 2 sort of like fail over?

Hi, My computer (WindowsXP) has a restoration accidentally. Now, everytime bootup will show vpngui.exe cannot run because missing vpnapi.dll. It recommends me reinstall vpngui.exe. Could you tell me how to reinstall vpngui.exe? Thanks in advance

There's a Windows API function that provides various information about top-level windows, but I can't remember its name. I think the first parameter is the HWND of a top-level window, and it fills in a control block structure in return. One of the values it makes available in the control block is the window handle of the child window that has the input focus. My xphome sr2 wont start. It starts loading the startup screen, then goes black and freezes. Even when I try repair it using the install disk, it goes through the whole repair process, but still wont run. Any helpful explanations out there? -- tevia

Seeking guidance on how one would convert Itunes music to MP3 within windows XP Pro. There are several free downloads all of which I tend to avoid. If no such facility exists within windows a safe recommendation would be appreciated.

I have been attempting to install SP3 on a Dell 4550 with XP Pro SP2 installed. I have already installed it on two other computers without any problem. I tried it first with the downloaded file, and get an access error. It then uninstalled the attempt. I next tried to use Windows Update. That one failed also. The log showed the error code to be 0x8024402C. This machine successfully updated nine critical updates on August 14th. It just doesn't like the SP3 update for some reason. All three machines run Norton Internet Security, and Webroot Spy Sweeper for MSN. Dick

I have a Compaq Presario that has been extremely slow lately and often gives me the program not responding can anyone help as to where I should begin? I notice that the problems happen most often when I have Microsoft Outlook express open. The primary usage for this computer is web surfing and my children are constantly playing games on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know this is very general information to start with but I can always elaborate more with answers once I know what the questions are!! I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for this. I have two computers networked together. One can access the resources of the other, but not the reverse. Basically this: USER1 on PC1 does a "net view \\PC2" and it works. USER2 on PC2 does a "net view \\PC1" and gets: System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied. PC2 can "net view" 2 other computers, just not PC1. Both PC1 and PC2 are is XP Pro SP3 Both have Simple File Sharing enabled. PC1 has both USER1 and USER2 configured and declared as Administrators. I am unable for whatever reason to view my server event viewer from another machine in the lan. I am able to connect to computer manegement and view services etc. But event viewer gives me a red x on all the event types. Any ideas? I am logging in as admin.

I have 4 computers in a peer to peer network in a small office, all running XP Pro, including the "server". the default "shared documents" is set for file sharing on all 4 machines. For some reason, one of the machines "frontdesk" cannot access some but not all of the folders open to sharing on the "server". The other two machines have unrestricted access and "Frontdesk" can access shared folders on the other two machines without trouble. In what may be a related problem, the printer on Frontdesk is also not accessible via network sharing to the other computers. any suggestions?

Hi all, I installed 2000, SP4, VIA Hyperion 5.12 and video driver on a MSI KT4V board. It has a KT400 chipset which isn't the most compatible bit of hardware (never got a Promise TX2 to run with decent speeds on it). The problem is that USB flash drives when disconnected are immediately connected again! Whether I choose "Stop USB mass storage device" or "unplug or eject hardware" the drive will disappear from explorer, it's LED flashes off and back on and the drive appears in explorer again. It's not just cosmetic, I can use it. I do however get the "save to unplug" message. This does not happen with USB hard disks. Google is not my friend. 8+ hour…

Hello! I have on my computer Excel 2003 AND Excel 2007. I need to have them both because I'm a developer and I like to try my programs on both versions. However, I prefer to use Excel 2003 as the default option. Since a few days ago, when I open an XLS file from a shortcut outside Excel, it opens the files in Excel 2007. I went to the file manager options to set the default application for .XLS files to be Excel 2003, but I now get a message saying "___.xls is not a valid win32 application" when I click on the shortcut. I can still access the files from within Excel 2003, but its kind of annoying that my shortcuts will only work for Excel 2007. Any tips?…
