What registry settings could be effected to cause Windows XP Professional to hang at "Saving Your Settings" when Windows is shutting down only after AutoCAD 2008 has been installed? This has happened to every computer at my job that has had AutoCAD 2008 installed.

NUVTwain.dll is missing
by Guest Millie- 2 replies
I use Windows XP and Photoshop CS. I recently launched Photoshop CS and received an error message that the NUVTwain.dll was missing and that reinstalling the software might resolve the problem. I did, and it didn't. However, once I manage to get rid of the message I seem to be able to use Photoshop as normal. Then I reinstalled my scanner software and drivers and received the same error message. When I try to scan, the message pops up again. And again when I get rid of the message I can scan a document into Photoshop. Can anyone tell me why I lost this dll, what it does and how I can reinstall it? Thanks -- Millie

Wrong Icons and File Type
by Guest Kieron Capehorn- 0 replies

The file types of media files on my PC have got mixed up. Most media files on my PC now have the Winamp filetype as their icon in Windows Explorer, even though they do not open in Winamp when you double click on them by default. In addition, in the 'File Type' section of Explorer, all of these files are listed as 'Winamp Media File', even though they are associated with other programs, such as WMP9 and flvPlayer. How can I put this right? Thanks

Question about DVI and dual monitors
by Guest Gregg Hill- 6 replies
Hello! I want to have two identical Acer AL1917 LCD displays set up as their own views, and not just a clone. I bought an AGP card with one DVI and one VGA connector, and when I hook up the displays, the one connected to the VGA output is FAR less bright than the DVI one, even at max contrast and brightness. Backgrounds are grey, menu bars are brown instead of grey, etc. I now want to hook up both to DVI, and I have Googled a little bit and found references to DVI splitter cables to use with dual monitors. Which is better, using one DVI output split into two DVI, or buy a dual-DVI card? Can a dual-display setup work off of one DVI that is split, and s…

Wi-Fi & LAN network problem
by Guest Ganz Doof- 2 replies

My XP laptop has suddenly developed a problem whereby it cannot connect either to an active Wi-Fi hotspot or to a LAN internet connection. The Network Connections window shows "Limited or No Connectivity" although other computers work just fine when connected to the same LAN cable and in the same room with Wi-Fi enabled. Do you have any suggestions as to what I can do to fix the problem? Also, the computer has become very sluggish and takes a long time to start and shut down of late. I ran CCleaner, but that did not seem to help. Any other ideas besides defragging? Thanks

Playing RDP packet streams
by Guest yairinbal@yahoo.com- 4 replies

Hello, I am looking for a way to record and play RDP sessions. I wonder of someone knows methods of rendering RDP protocol stream into the screen. For example, in Vista Microsoft provides the RDPViewer COM Object (used by Windows Desktop Sharing API) which renders RDP into the screen, however it requires actual TCP connection to the server and it does not accepts RDP packet streams. I know that there are some products that do so (like RecordTS), but I wonder if a simple functionality can be provided by Microsoft SDKs. Regards, momo

HOSTS file does nothing?
by Guest Alex Clark- 14 replies

Hi all, I edited my hosts file recently to block out a couple of ad-server domains and noticed it didn't do anything. Curious to test whether my hosts file worked at all, I directed http://www.google.com to 127.0.0.1 and ran IE. It promptly loaded http://www.google.com without any bother at all. I rebooted and still had the same issue. It seems the HOSTS file is being totally ignored. I've Googled for information on it but as far as I can tell, Windows XP still makes use of this file? I'm on XP Pro 64bit if that makes any difference? TIA, Alex

Re: network When posting the same question to more than one group, please use proper cross-posting techniques. http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=cross-posting I have properly cross-posted this to the Win98.Gen_Discussion group. hat are your real-world needs? Because in order to view and access shares on the Win98 machine from the Vista machine, nothing much in particular should need to be done. Just your "basic" network setup should take care of everything. But if you want to access shares on the Vista machine from the 98 machine, it's a royal mess with several likely issues to deal with, the first…

I have a new Server 2008 server that is provided user file services. After a few hours the user shares slowly stop working user by user until no users can access the shares. There are no errors in the Event Log. The only fix is to restart the server. But, the problem returns after a few hours. Does anyone know what the problem is? This is a brand new Dell 2950 III Server. Server 2008 was installed at Dell.

strange cursor issue

I have a dell laptop running XP sp3 it has a touchpad and I had a USB mouse connected. the cursor sometimes took on a mind of its own and starts drifting across the screen. At first I thought it was the mouse moving on the desk. when it didn't want to stop I unplugged the mouse and it kept going. I can't tell if it is an issue with the pad or s/w. and I don't know where to start looking. has anyone run into something like this? thx
