Hotfix Removal

I have a general questions i was working on a server we were having problems with and i was told by support to install Kb943669 after we installed this Hotfix it made the situation worse. I looked up the hotfix i found out that it has absolutly nothing to do with our specific issue. If i remove the hotfix will the removal turn all the previous setting back to normal. Or will the same issues still be there after the hotfix is removed because it already adjusted hte settings? I am just wondering if someone know what the actual removal of a hotfix does?

I have a new Server 2008 server that is providing file services. After a few hours the directory/user shares slowly stop working user by user until no users can access the shares. There are no errors in the Event Log. The only fix is to restart the server. But, the problem returns after a few hours. Does anyone know what the problem is?

The following sentence is from ms e learning course:- --(( On TS Gateway server, the RPC/HTTP Load Balancing service and the IIS service use Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.0 to encrypt communications between clients and TS Gateway servers over the Internet. For TLS to function correctly, you must install an SSL-compatible X.509 certificate on the TS Gateway server.))-- The certificate mentioned in the above paragraph is the one to initiate the https and to authenticate the TS Gateway server, right?

Automated system recovery

Greetings...I am stumped. I just purchased a WD external HD for "backup" purposes. I am using XP Professional which came installed on my HP. I used the XP BACKUP and selected that a recovery disk be created. The backup went smoothly. Unfortunately XP asked me to use a "floppy" disk to create the backup media. Not possible. It booted me out. There must be a workaround. BTW, I believe I checked every knowledgebase article. Can I use a CD or DVD to make the backup media, and how??? John

How do I remove network drives
by Guest mystified- 11 replies
I've been given the boot but allowed to keep my company laptop as a lovely parting gift. There are 4 network drives that remain. They were part of the office network that I can no longer access. The drive letters & icons are a painful reminder of gainful employment. How do I get rid of them? Clicking on any of the drive letters yields the error message "x: refers to a location that is not available..." Right click options include everything except delete. Suggestions?

Safe Mode lost
by Guest Mike De Petris- 0 replies

XP x64, it's years that my "Safe Mode" boot does not work, it goes to BSOD. I can't even remember how I lost it, maybe installing graphic drivers. I didn't bother up to know, as I am not able to reinstall a new HaupPauge HVR 4000 tv card (other thread). I wanted to access devices in safe mode to remove them, any other attempt failed, digital tuners are no more available as they was at first installation, I tryed moving the board to different pci slot, uninstall etc. but can't get the digital tuners back, analog tuners work fine, with the initial problem that analog audio is very bad. Which way do you suggest to attempt to "repair" the system? Backup and rein…

File Replication service in Windows XP Pro?
by Guest David Walker- 0 replies
I am getting some events in the Application event log, and some searching leads me to the File Replication Service. I am running Windows XP Pro, with SP3, and I don't even HAVE the File Replication Service. Is this normal? The service doesn't exist. I don't NEED the FRS on my XP Pro system, if that matters. It's not normally logged in to a domain, either. (Occasionally it is, but usually not.) The events are 1085 from Userenv, and 1202 from SceCli, with 0x5 Access Is Denied. I'm mostly wondering about the lack of the FRS, since the troubleshooting steps for the 1202 and the 1085 want me to look at the NTFRS key in the Registry (which is not th…

Run VBS on a Remote?
by Guest RayportingMonkey- 14 replies
My basic scenario is that I have a laptop that I do "light work" from and a power-house desktop that I develop and run automated reports on. Currently, I have a series of VBS files that download source data from a web location to a local/working directory on my Desktop. Some of these files can get pretty large. The problem is that I receive notification on my laptop via Outlook that the data is available and had set a rule in Outlook to run the applicable script, which reside on my desktop. I want to run the script from the (remote) desktop and not from my laptop. Do I need to setup a service on the desktop in Windows XP or something to do this? O…

2008 license on 2003 server
by Guest Marvin- 2 replies

We have a 2003 license server and we recently purchased licenses for our 2003 terminal server. Since 2003 licenses have been discontinued we were given 2008 licenses. Now when trying to install these licenses, I get an error message 0x13a7 which points to KB article 839878. This article says 2008 licenses cannot be installed on a 2003 license server. How can I install these licenses without having to upgrade the license server?

XP Pro and Vista Ultimate shutdown and immediately restart
by Guest Polaris- 2 replies

System Configuration: HD1 - XP Pro with all updates HD2 - Vista Ultimate with all updates I switch OS at boot time via F10 key. Problem: I select Turn Off computer and system executes normal shutdown procedure. A second or two after shutting down it Restarts. If I press the Power Btn. and hold it down until the system shuts down, power remains off. This occurs using either OS so I suspect something common to both; perhaps the power supply? Any suggestions?

Add or Remove Programs
by Guest Don J- 6 replies

I have two installations of Win'XP. One has "Add or Remove Programs" installed and one does not. In the case of the one that has it installed it appears as a specific item on the takbar. Opening it up shows a single list of all running programs. By selecting any particular item on the list, it open it up, and there are one or two buttons. The button marked Delete is always there. The button marked Modify is sometimes there. By pressing the Delete Button one is able to delete the selected program. I know of a "Task Manager" look alike that has many of the same features of "Add or Remove Programs". But on my system the "Task Manager" version doesn't seem…
