Error Msg after Reformatting Hard Drive
by Guest Ranelle- 3 replies

I reformatted my hard drive and installed windows again so I could start with a clean slate. I installed the drivers and everything seemed to be fine but now when I start my computer an error message pops up and says: The procedure entry point LocalizeString could not be located in the dynamic link library STLang.dll. Does anyone know what this means or how I can fix it? I don't know much about computers. Any insight to this problem would be a big help!! (Windows XP Professional, SP2)

Reconnect to an existing session
by Guest dav- 10 replies

Hi all, I would like to set up Window Server 2003 to basically act like Windows XP. When I connect to the server via remote desktop it creates a new session on the server, now if I go to a different machine and connect again instead of disconnecting the other remote user and logging into that session it creates an entirely new session. I would rather it handle remote connections the same way XP does. Please help! Dav

I have some thin client (Wyse) units with windows XP embeded. When they boot they connect to a terminal services session. I can set the session to start an application which has been great. I now need to have two applications available to the users but that means I cennot set a "run app on connection" which in turn means they will have acces to the start menu... I would like to launch two apps with no shell on connection. Thanks

Remote Desktop in Vista
by Guest Eric- 6 replies

I am trying to connect to an XP Pro machine from a Vista Home Premiuim machine via Remote Desktop Connection. It works just fine behind my router or without it when I try to connect from a Windows 2000 machine. So that leaves me with the indication that there is a setting in Vista that is blocking it. I get the message "can't connect to the remote computer." Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Vista Business 64bit / Unable to install WDS 4.0
by Guest James Rainey- 4 replies

When I attempt to install, I get the following error. "The update does not apply to your system". I have downloaded the update for Windows Vista 64bit SP1. The file name is Windows6.0-KB940157-x64 and I pulled it directly from the Windows Search site. Suggestions? Since GOOGLE doesn't yet have a search tool for 64bit Vista, it's kinda' critical to me that I get this installed and working. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jim P.S. I've checked with windows update, and I'm current on everything.

Networking Xp Desktop to Vista Notebook - firewall gets in the way!
by Guest Uncle Ben- 4 replies

Is there a way around this? My two-PC network seems to work fine except that I can't share files and printers unless I unload my F-Secure AV and Firewall. Is there a way around that? Another naive question while I am at it - Does the AV software that I have installed on the desktop also protect the notebook (while connected to the network) - or do I also have to install an AV software on it? Many thanks for your help. Cheers!

Suppose my antivirus program breaks the connection to the internet (this has never happened but it could happen). I have DSL modem that automatically connects whenever I turn on the computer. If the connection is broken, would I have to reboot or is there a way to reconnect? My Start> Connect To does not list my current DSL connection.

I had a look at the DPF folder through 'View Objects? and found 4 entries damaged. Twoi refer to Symantec which I do not use but may have done an online scan in the past; the others were fro Microsoft: Security/controls/sass and the other to do with the the update. Although I repaired them I wonder why they got damaged. I am pretty certain I have no viruses at the present. Then, can I delete the Symanted ones? Directly from the folder, or is it better through HijackThis? Thank you JB

How to clone a hard disk ?
by Guest RJK- 16 replies

I thought I'd try a route different to ghosting C:\ out to a USB hd, and then restoring that image onto a new hd, i.e. booting from Norton 9.0 Ghost bootable cd 'cause is slowish. So I tried the "Copy drive" on the Norton Ghost 9.0 windows interface, to "copy drive" C:\ on hd0 to hd1's unallocated space (both SATA hd's). On the options screen I ticked "Set drive Active" (for booting OS) ....there's a radio button in Primary Partition. Drive Letter is set to None, 'cause C:\ is unavailable ? ....and I put a tick in "Copy MBR" ....now I left it "copying", and when I returned, the XP screensaver was on but, I don't think it had rebooted, and I dutifully …

Why Can't I Sign In to Windows Vista Community?
by Guest XRaySpeX- 7 replies

I have a NET Passport and can, and always have, successfully Sign In to the Windows XP Newsgroups. However, when I want to ask a question in the Windows Vista Community it fails to Sign me in or post a New Question. All it does is return to the same page after a long delay, with me still Signed Out. Sometimes, usually on the 1st attempt of the session, it does display the Login page but ignores it; more often it does absolutely nothing.

Problem - Printers are not being deleted after a user logs off.
by Guest DMCDMC- 1 reply

I have a Windows 2003 Terminal Server, SP2. I have approx. 30 active users at any given point in time. I am using UPHClean to clean up sessions. I am however continually experiencing a problem. ie. A user was logged on at one point, say using 'session id 2', but has since logged off. A new user logs on later. The new user is given the same session id, however, if you look in the printers folder, the original users' redirected printers are still there and have not been deleted. This causes printing nightmares. If I do not reboot the terminal server frequently (almost nightly), then the problem gets worse, more user's complain. Not sure where to l…
