Legacy Operating Systems

I have been trying to install 2008 on a variety of platforms: AMD, INTEL x86 and X64, Virtual Server, VMWare and anything else I can think of. I can't seem to figure out how to get the network to connect. I've tried it on machines with 1 and with 2 adapters. No difference. I keep getting "Unidentified Network", no DHCP just APIPA. When I use a static IP I can at least ping the router/cable modem, but can't even ping by IP beyond the router. I'm obviously missing a fairly simple step, but I just don't see it. Any help for the terminally IT blind????

We have an app that requires users to be local admins, crappy I know, but I how can i prevent users from installing programs? If the TS has be in admin mode anyway, why would MS let programs get installed otherwise????? - rant..

We have a terminal server set up, every single policy we have has "remove clock from task bar" set to disabled, the policies were forcefully updated (gpupdate /force) yet still the clock is missing on the task bar when a user logs on. Anything else I can check here?

There are a number of programs listed in the Add or Remove Programs menu in Control Panel that don't have a Change or Remove button. Probably more than half of the listed programs are missing the button(s). These are all active programs, and many do not have a remove option in the Start/All Programs either. One that I want to remove right now is the Apple Safari browser for Windows. I have Googled for help with this, and the only thing I have seen is to uninstall it in Add or Remove Programs, which is exactly what I can't do. How can I delete these programs and/or get the Remove button back in Add or Remove Programs? Using Windows XP Pro SP3.

One question for Windows XP folders Single computer not networked 1) Is there a way that I can password protect a specific folder so that no one can see its contents and have a password necessary to get into the folder?

Windows XP SP3 My computer was going extremely slow and begining to become un useable. I read some of the replies to similar problems so I uninstalled the Norton Security, downloaded AVG anti-virus and anti spyware from Windows. I turned the computer off then on again the next day and it worked with no problems for an hour then the extreme slowness returned. What else can be causing it?

Help! Have been digging deep into wife's computer and am stumped. She is running Windows XP on a Toshiba Satellite. She unfortunately got stuck with Vista Virus 2008 (i think that's what it was) It kept popping up windows and blocking all attempts to remove. I ran Spybot and Ad-Aware and finally SmitfraudFix. Hello all, I am performing a test using a UNC path to access a local drive. An old Microsoft KB article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328252) entitled "Performance Degradation When You Use UNC Path Instead of Drive Letter for a Local Computer" tells me that my problem (as noted in the title) was fixed with a Service Pack update to Windows 2000. My assumption would be that this problem is not supposed to occur in Windows 2003. Either that the Redirector service is no longer used when accessing a UNC directed to a local drive or possibly that the performance issue was cleared up. When I try to load windows 2003 server standard edition, I goes fine until I get to the Welcome to Windows Setup screen. I have 1 OU where the time was off by about 5 minutes after a change in ntp for domain which didnt take effect for that OU. Would that prevent authentication- were trying to see what caused a network authentication error and thinking the time being different from the rest of the domain might have caused it.
