Restoring Terminal Server licenses
by Guest JK in Nebraska- 1 reply

My SBS 2003 server crashed the other day. When I restored system state, several key applications would not run. In order to get the system back up and running, I ended up with a new installation then restored AD and Exchange. One of my remaining problems is that this server also acted as a terminal services license server. Unfortunately, all of the terminal server license ducumentation was misplaced during a recent move and I have yet to locate them. Is there a way to recover the terminal server licenses from backup without restoring the system state?

Ekiga used to work, but now gets stopped at an echo test with: Visual Studio Just-In-Time-Debugger An unhandled win32 exception occurred in ekiga.exe[5484]............. I've had the same problems, that have suddenly emerged, with MingSweeper, VirtualBox. I got rid of the JIT trap by deleting: Delete the following registry keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE \Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug\Debugger HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework \DbgManagedDebugger Now it throws a generic Windows error: ekiga.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close........ windows exception code 0xc0000005 The problem may be actually with my Logitech Qu…

Temporary Internet Files Cookie Loacation
by Guest Tony P.- 1 reply

I have a question concerning the Temporary Internet Files folder. It seems, for some reason, this location is used to store many of the cookies which are planted on my PC. For most of these cookies, I don't care if they get deleted. But for some of the cookies, it is important that they remain all the time. My question is, when running MS Disk Cleanup, one of the locations that is made available for cleanup is the Temporary Internet Files folder. If I select this location for cleanup, what actually get deleted from this folder? -- Thanks, Tony For replies, please correct my email address.

Login script and drive mappings
by Guest hrd2fnd- 2 replies

Having no experiance with scripting I thought I would ask for some help. I have this login script that maps 2 groups to the same drive letter depending on which group they are in. The problem is the users are in both groups and none of the drive mappings will map. I'm assuming that it is because of being in both groups that want the same drive letter. Can anyone give me some advice? Here is a pasting of the script. Thank you in advance Hrd Case "DEPT-xxxx_xxxx" WSHNetwork.RemoveNetworkDrive "W:" wscript.sleep 300 WSHNetwork.MapNetworkDrive "W:", "\\server1\xxx\xxx",True Case "DEPT-yyyy_GRP" WSHNetwork.RemoveNetworkDrive "W:" ws…

Why does my Add/Remove Programs only show a few of my applications "unless" I choose the "Frequency of Use" then I can see all of them (even the ones I don't frequently use) I would think that if the default "Name" listed was selected that I should able to see "all" but it doesn't ?? It does this on my home machine and at work.

Can no longer search by "a word or phrase in the file"
by Guest PJM Windsor- 1 reply

I used to use "search" regularly to find files that had been saved on my hard drive. I would search "all files or folders", type in the name that I wanted to find, ask for the in which I had stored the file, select the date range within which I had created it, click search, and I would be shown a list of the files containing that name, and then I could open the appropriate file. I recently uninstalled Norton Security, ran defragment and checkdisk, then installed Mcafee security. Since then I cannot search by word in a file. I keep getting an answer that there are no files, even if I look in a file or folder in which I know that a file containing that w…

How to hide Command window when batch file runs
by Guest v2win- 4 replies
On WinXPSP3, fully patched. I would like to execute a small batch file by executing a quicklaunch toolbar shortcut whose target is a .cmd file on the C:\ drive. Everything works as intended, but I don't want the command window appearing on the desktop and remaining open until the launched app. closes. Is there something that I can add to the script to allow this to execute in the background, without the command window launching on the desktop? The content of the file is something like this: echo off (net start service 1)&&(net start service 2)&&(net start service 3) "C:\Program Files\Product Directory\exec\app.exe" -- V2

MP3 player and USB
by Guest Bill Again- 7 replies

My MP3 player is not recognised by my PC when I plug it into a USB port. My PC recognises and operates all the other USB devices that I use. When I plug in the MP3 player a helpful window pops up called "MTP Media Player" that asks me what I want Windows to do. Despite sounding so helpful, the window is empty of suggestions. In System Properties, Hardware, Device Manager, an MP3 player is shown. It shows up with a new entry, "Windows Portable Devices - MTP Device". It alleges that everything is working. But it is not. There is nothing wrong with the MP3 player, it works fine on my laptop. On the laptop Device Manager window it appears under "Storage …

Hi, I want to robocopy files created yesterday (based on the "Date Modified" timestamp) It seems to me that the options /MAXLAD /MINLAD /MAXAGE /MINAGE are calculating based on 24 hrs timeframe. For example, if I use /MAXAGE:1 and robocopy at 3pm, I will get the logs from 3pm yesterday up to current time but not the logs at 2:59 pm yesterday. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

by Guest Sejong- 0 replies

After the Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) role is added to a Windows Server 2008 server, running vssadmin list writers generates output that does not include System Writer and generates Event ID 513 from CAPi2 in the Application log. Text of this event: Cryptographic Services failed while processing the OnIdentity() call in the System Writer Object. Prior to adding the AD DS role, running vssadmin list writers generates output that does include System Writer and does not generate Event ID 513. Permissions on the Registration folder in the Windows folder (%windir%) are as shown below. In all cases the permission are shown under Special permis…
