Cant access XP Pro normal/safe/last good config
by Guest abd08- 8 replies

Hi all, I have a PC at work which I did a clean install of XP Pro on a few weeks ago. It has been used very infrequently only by me, for non- internet purposes (so no viruses/spyware etc for sure - and I am the only person with access to this office). Yesterday morning I came into work to find that one of my PCs did not power on at all. The following happened (in order): 1. Switched PSU off from back, turned it on again - no result 2. Unplugged and re-plugged power cable in case it was loose - no result 3. Switch power cable for another one - the PC powers on - NOTE : The "faulty" cable works on another PC - and I'm not crazy! =) 4. When PC powers o…

View Available Wireless Networks...?
by Guest Kenneth- 5 replies

\ Howdy, If I click to "View Available Wireless Networks" the list populates with one correct network, but also includes several that are not, in fact, available. Those that are not available includes networks that I had logged on to at an earlier time, and at other locations. Why would they be listed as "available", and might there be a way to eliminate them from the list? Many thanks, -- Kenneth If you email... Please remove the "SPAMLESS."

XP SP3 Repeating reboots.
by Guest Harold A Climer- 12 replies

Is there a version of XP SP3 that already takes into account that the original OS image file came from a computer with an Intel CPU as opposed to an AMD CPU that is on my HP Pavilion A1520N? I tried installing XP SP3 on my Pavilion A1520N and got the repeating re-boot problem. I finally had to reinstall the whole OS from the recovery disks a got from HP. I do not want to have to do that again, and I am a bit leery of fooling around with the registry. Harold A. Climer Dept. XP update, now won't boot

Hey everyone, Last night I updated my PC (SP 3?), and now all I get is a black screen with a blinking cursor. I have a removable hard drive and last night I was using my 320 gb one. Today when I check the BIOS, it doesn't see my hard drive. It does see the DVD, USB devices, etc. When I use my 120 gb hard drive it does the same thing. The 120 gb was updated the other day and everything worked, although I had to go into the BIOS and tell it to boot to the hard drive. Both hard drives worked until after last nights updates. Any ideas? -- DZ

Quick Java Question
by Guest Danger_Duck- 5 replies

Now that Microsoft has J++, does it have a forum for general Java questions? While I'm at it I might as well give it a try here, since you guys seem knowledgeable about just about anything regarding computers: Is there a method in String, Integer, or other classes that will return the integer within a string like: int a = ClassName.method("I have 7 peanuts"); System.out.print(a); Output: 7 Again, while the answer to the questions would be fabulous, it would be even more fabulous for me to find out if there's a good place to ask such things. Thanks!

Hi everyone. After so many of you helped me so much recently while I was trying to get USB operating reliably on 98 I just have to tell you this. Several days ago I posted that I was giving up and putting W2K on the laptop, which works fine, but is quite sluggish. Well, I just can't seem to leave it alone. I went back to some of your helpful posts in that old thread and used one of the suggested links to download NUSB.EXE again. I set up to dual boot and installed 98SE again on the spare partition. The USB driver installed and runs just fine. No idea what the heck was wrong last time. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that your offered help has born fr…

I have three questions, please answer them with explanation. Q-1) You are a network administrator for Uk. The network consists of a single Active Directory domain named Uk.com. Your company acquires a company named Usa. The USA network consists of a single Active-Directory domain named USA.com. A server named Server32 is a network-management application server in the USA.com domain. Server32 accesses all of the desktop client computers to perform automated software upgrades and hardware inventory. The network-management software on Server32 references desktop computers by unqualified host names, which are resolved to client name.USA.com by using a DNS …

Am I going to hit problems with XP64 with 8GB and DVB ?
by Guest Mark Natto- 3 replies

I now have a XP64 with 8GB all working perfect, all hardwares and software works in ways that I have always wanted. Sadly the only thing that wouldnt work is my TV card (Cinergy 2400i DT), manufacture is of no help even though they supply XP64 drivers. So I am looking at another card thats well supported under XP64, Leadtek WinFast DTV1000, I also have a Leadtek WinFast DTV2000H which I cant find in the pile of junk here, they are both supported by XP64, but my concern is more to do with the amount of memory, I read something a while back that TV cards are not happy on anything with more than 4GB, does any one know if this is the case before I splash out o…

by Guest amzd- 0 replies

Hello, I observed a funny thing. We have several Windows Server 2003. They are part of a domain, let us call it .pac. Let us call one server Munich. The servers have several shares, let us call one share on Munich "Inside". On server munich I open The Run-Window (Start, run) and then typ in: \\munich.pac\Inside The Server does not open the share, it asks for authentication which never works. I alway receive: Logon unsuccessful. Windows is unable to log you on. Be sure that your user name and password are correct. If I type in: \\munich\Inside then it opens the share immediately without any question. If I go to another windows server 2003 or my XP-Cli…

Hello all, My organisation has a windows server 2003 SP 1 domain controller running certificate services. During a previous upgrade to Win Server 2003 SP1, there were quite a number of issues arising form the upgrade. I am just being curious if there is any known issue with upgrading a domain controller running certificate service to service pack 2. I would appreciate responses from the house on the best way to upgrade the server without any issue. Regards Damola

I have been installing a new server to which I have connected a USB external hard drive. For the first time yesterday, I rebooted the server with the USB drive alraedy attached and my heart almost stopped when I got the ntldr not found message. I then unplugged the usb drive and the server booted up normally. Why would the server try to boot from the usb drive--is it probably a Bios setting ??

Until today, I could close individual windows without it affecting any other open window(s). However, when I now click to close a particular window, all open windows close automatically, forcing me to start over by re-opening the browser. I went to Tools to see if a particular setting had been inadvertently changed, but lack sufficient knowledge to know what to look for. Please advise! Thanks.

Hello, I am trying to synchronize the time on a bunch of client workstations and servers to their appropriate Domain Controllers. Eventually the Primary domain controller will be synchronized to an external time source. I have the following information, but I am not sure if it is correct: Open up registry and drill down to the following: \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32TIME\Parameters original: type = NT5DS, NTPServer = time.windows.com,0x1 new: Type=AllSync,NtpServer=MCSDC1,0x1,MCSDC2,0x1 Is the syntax for the above line correct or should there be spaces instead of commas? Is there anything else that I need to do in o…

I would like to migrate a WIndows 2003 server to new hardware and at the same time migrate it to 2008. This will be the first 2008 server in my environment. It is used as a file server. Does anyone know of any tools to use to copy the files from one server to the other and retain ntfs and share permissions as well as file ownership? Obviously the tool needs to support 2008. Thanks for any advice.
