by Guest JCO- 4 replies

Running XP Pro with SP3 Security Update for .NetFramework, Version 2 (KB928365) FAILS to install. I've had .Net Framework issues before where I had to uninstall all .net stuff and reinstall them in the proper order. However, I Just restored my computer from an Image that was a year old. I now have all the updates except this one. I don't have the install programs since they were deleted prior to creating the Image (a year ago). So what can I do to resolve this issue? I've tried downloading the Security Update and install it that way, but it still fails. No reason is given for the failure. Thanks

....from one PC to another, without installing it from scratch ? Background:- An "aged" MEGGER software "certificate printing" appplication, that looks like it was created with, or is some form of "Microsoft Access" JET/MDAC based application, and which looks to me like it uses the older 1992 onwards "JET" form of MDAC ...and which contains lots of documents that were created within it. i.e. ...there's a \Megger\certificates\ directory containing lots of *.aff files). ....need to be transplanted to a new PC. An added complication is that this MEGGER Powersuite software is used in conjunction with MS "Activesync," which retrieves documents from H…

Windows XP Pro/MCE 2005 crashed and due to the large number of apps installed we are doing an Win XP from the CD's and repair an existing install. When installing from original cd's which included SP2 it fails during the install process with "unable to load mscoree.dll" and ngen.exe will also not run. After the install completes when you run XP the desktop comes up ok but it attempts to load Document Viewer and errors continously and never installs. We are not able to start Task Manager and the system will not shut down except turning off power. The CD disks are clean and has failed at the same point during 3 install attempts. Do we need to download .N…

1) I have noticed that my WHS2008 hard drives are CONSTANTLY spinning, even when not being accessed by any of my workstations. I have made sure that no backups were in progress. The problem does not resolve when I reboot. 2) I continually have problems with the Windows Search service. Error Log says that it needs to be deleted and re-indexed. How do I do this? 3) It runs miserably slow with an AMD 64x2 5000+ and 2GB of Dual Channel PC3200. What gives? 4) My network health is in a constant state of YELLOW as it is complaining that there are files conflicts in the Windows Fonts folder. How do I remove this warning or fix this conflict? 5) It is compl…

Server2008's Hyper-V is great! But how do I read/write to the host's drives?
by Guest Mindy Dyson- 1 reply

Hi guys! At the university, I was issued some statistical software that will run only in Windows 2000 and XP. This WAS a problem, since I have Server2008 installed on my work station. The software installed in a Hyper-V virtual machine by using the media/DVD/Capture pulldowns. The Hyper-V virtual machine is using XP/SP3! :) Now, I need to read over 70 gigs of text data zipped for analysis. It will expand to almost 800 gigs of text data. I see how I can get it in the virtual c:\ and d:\ drive(s) using my browser and FTP from the original publisher, and how to get it via the DVD drive. But this data is already on an HDD on my work station outside of my…

How to manually create a custom event log in *any* category?
by Guest future2Bunknown- 1 reply
I am testing monitoring software therefore need the ability to generate event logs. Please note that I want to generate all possible event ID's from all possible sources. There are a few tools or APIs that let you create event logs - with certain limitations - e.g. only in Application Log, or only from undefined sources, etc. So answers such as logevent, eventcreate, won't be accepted.

My Windows XP Prof is updated to SP3 and I have a slipstreamed CD of the software. I checked my C:\i386 folder and non of the files in it is newer than 2007. I assume that i386 folder files are not updated when you have automatic updates from Microsoft or when you install a service pack. My question is how can I delete and than create a new i386 folder from the winxp SP3 CD. which files folders I copy from the CD to the folder?

Connecting to a server by name
by Guest Jasper Recto- 2 replies

I have a Cisco ASA firewall that allows me to VPN into our company domain. When I'm in the domain, I can ping any computer or connect to it through terminal server by using the computer IP address. Is there anything I can do so that I can connect to computer by its computer name? If I try to ping a computer name, the DNS can not resolve it. Is there a host file I can edit that can reference the computer name and it's corresponding IP address? I'm on Windows XP. Thanks, Jasper
