Hello, Few days back I bought HP dv5 1102tu. It has come with Vista preinstalled. However, I want to use XP, as I m comfortable with it, moreover, some of my previous softwares are not working in Vista. But, when I tried installing XP, it gave some error in blue screen. Please, anyone tell me how to install XP in my notebook. Thank in advance

Hi, I’ve installed Terminal Server Licensing on two Domain Controller’s. The servers are activated and TS User CAL’s are installed. (MPLS agreement) When I start the Terminal Server Licensing Tool on the Terminal Server it discover the two DC’s. Only the column Issued is 0 I didn’t expect that because yours are logged on. Using Win 2008 std, is there a way to monitor user activity on files and directories - who opens, copies files? Or, is there a 3rd party application that would do this? Thanks.

I am currently running XP home edition sp2 but when I download certain programs like IE 8, ITunes, etc...the software program terminates installation and tells me that the program is not compatible with my OS. Some of these programs report that I am using Windows 2000, which I am not. When I check my OS version on my computer it says I am using XP which was installed when I bought the computer. Any suggestions as to why this is happening? How do I fix it? Thank-you!

I have a Compaq Presario sr2044nx PC with XP MCE2005, Service pack 2, 2.8ghz Pentium D, 2GB ram, 180GB HDD, 90 GB free, that turns itself on while it's supposed to be hibernating. Some days it stays off, sometimes it is only off for an hour. I have to turn off the power strip if I want to be certain it will stay off. I have a windows server 2003 terminal server so i told my group policy to use fallback pcl driver and then deleted printer drivers from terminal server. and indeed it fallsback to deskjet 500, but when clients print some reports they dont come out right. so i manually changed driver to 4/4m ps and it prints out fine. so i said okay, and told my group policy to fallback to ps driver, all printers are hp and support ps, gpupdated ts server, rebooted. and this morning they all use 500 pcl driver again. so how do i make them use ps instead of pcl fallback driver.

We are running Windows XP64 and we are using 4 CPU machines that have 8GB total. We have a program that was written in 32-Bit code that runs on these computers. It does some complex mathematics and data crunching. Since we have 4 CPUs on this computer, we create 4 separate processes. Our assumption was that each process can have 2 GB worth of addressable space. Since the code is written in 32-Bit, do these 4 CPUs each share the same 4GB of lower memory? I have termina servers and file server so shared folder on file server terminal server see as internet zone so i can't start app from there, so i have to change it to intranet zone for every user, so i wonder is there a way to configure it so every new, and current user on that ts see that folder as intranet zone! I've read in some places where I can give a user access to a RemoteApp WITHOUT giving them full remote desktop. I've also read the opposite. Can I give someone the ability to use RemoteApp (Windows 2008 TS server, obviously) without giving them the ability to actually log into a full fledged deskop via RDP? ie - I'd like to keep them off the desktop for security reasons. As I understand the PDC emulater normally is configured as the Authoritative Time Server, however, should I configure more time servers for redundancy? If I do, will they serve as time servers, or until I promot one of them as the PDC role? Is there specific doc on this?

The only Power Button options for closing the lid are (1) Do nothing, (2) Standby, and (3) Hibernate. Google turned up several sites that say these are the only possible options. Is that true? Is there no way for me to get XP to do a Shutdown when I close the lid?

What would cause the Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool to be installed every time Windows Update runs? I have at /least/ a dozen workstations on one network that require it every "Update Tuesday" before the real updates will download. And multiple single user computers. Hii, frequently when I try to close a program, or shut down, i get this screen that says tht the program is taking longer than expected to shut down and gives me the option to End Now. I hve done a disk clean up and run a defrag - is there anything else I can do to stop this from happening? What is causing it? Many thanks in advance :-) -- Trish

Hello there, My friends computer is having a few problems at the minute. One of which is a recurring BSOD containing the error message 'IRQL not or less equal'. Coincidental (or perhaps caused by) is the fact that he cannot connect to our router although the rest of us on our house can. But the IRQL error is the one I would like to solve firstly. I have ran a memory test as recommended by many IT experts and there was no trouble with the memory. Any other things I can try?

I used System Commander to move free disk space from the d partition to the c partition. All seemed to go well except upon reboot the system goes through post and then just hangs...no errors just hangs...odd I know. I can get it to boot back into the OS if I boot from the System Commander CD and select "install generic MBR" from the available options. The system is then able to find the MBR and all is well. I contacted System Commander support and they didn't offer any useful help. I also ran "fix mbr" from the Win2003 CD which didn't fix the issue either. Got any ideas on how I can permanetly fix this issue without needing to reinstall?

There is such an incredible worth of knowlege on this site that I have a hard time leaving it. I can't be the only one that would like to keep a "scrapbook" of the things I don't want to forget when I need them later. I know somebody out there can tell me how to do it, so come on, give it up!

Hi, I have been asked to come up with a checklist for junior techs who build out servers. We are concerned about hardening and using best practices to secure Windows servers. I am not authorized to run scans against the machines and thus I need them to have some form of accountiblilty. I suppose the closest thing I can compare it to is a paper audit.
