Hello, I am using this small script to automatically created scheduled tasks via Group Policy on each one of our servers: Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") Dim fso, d, dc, i, Command i=0 Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") Set dc = fso.Drives For Each d in dc i=i+1 If d.DriveType = 2 Then Return = WshShell.Run("echo ""N""|schtasks.exe /create /SC WEEKLY /D MON /TN Defrag" &i& " /TR ""defrag.exe "&d &" -f"" /ST 15:50:00 /SD 04/08/2008 /RU SYSTEM", 1, TRUE) End If Next Set WshShell = Nothing The echo ""N"" is necessary because on the second restart, Windows asks to…

Hi, I currently have a problem where I can't open a fax I have received in Outlook 2003 Sp3 - it is in .tiff format and when I open it opens in Microsoft Document and Imagaing It has always opened in this, but for a while now (since sp3 upgrade) there has been an issue where it is consistently crashing and having to restart the application! The error log is here; Faulting application mspview.exe, version 11.0.8166.2, stamp 4616c203, faulting module mspview.exe, version 11.0.8166.2, stamp 4616c203, debug? 0, fault address 0x00016537. Windows Activation Problem

Hi everybody, I have changed my server's HD. It is running on Server2008 Now, my system tells me taht it has been deactivated due to HW change and I should reactivate. Reactivation results in error 0x004E003 which means that the key has been used previously. Of course it has! _I_ have used it before on the same machine. KB 931276 tells me to punch in the Key again, but I do not have that option. When I start slui.exe from the command line, it tries to activate, comes up with the error described above and that's it. Does that mean, I must not change HW without reinstalling and re-buying? Thanks for your time Ole

Backing Up - does anyone use 2 identical servers.
by Guest ThomasAJ- 5 replies

1 is the production and the 2nd. identical one is continually 'imaging' the 1st. I would think it would be at the hadware level. Maybe a card in each server connected via a cable. Production box goes down, the lan cable, any printers etc would be unplugged from it and plugged into the second and off we go. Or something like it. -- Regards Tom

installing updates
by Guest Charlie- 2 replies

The OS is XP Pro. I just had to do a total recovery to as delivered conditions. As part of the process I went to the MS website and downloaded and installed SP3. Now when I start to shut down I get the message "installing updates". It reports 13 updates to be installed. As soon as the update process starts and before anything actually gets installed the PC shuts down. This happens every time. Are these new updates beyond SP3? If they are why does the install fail? If they are redundant to what SP3 has already done, how do I remove them? Charlie

BACKUP - cannot drill down to any files in BKF file.
by Guest ThomasAJ- 0 replies

W2003, C: drive only, did ASR backup on weekend. I wanted to test restoring a single file. Attached the USB External HDD, started up BACKUP, went to Restore... tab, right-clicked on the BKF file that is in the left pane, clicked Catalog. There is no '+' on the C: drive to drill-down. (yes there is a '+' on the 'Backup.bkp created date/time' file which expands to 3 items being C:, C:, System State) When I hover the mouse over one of the items above, a tick/check mark appears - I presume to allow selection of the whole of the item but no drill-down. -- Regards Tom

Compressing ratio

It looks that WinZIP is useless to compress big EXE files. For example, it almost cannot reduce size of big setup file, the compressed file size remains the same(almost). Looks like using WinZIP is useless for compressing big executable files. Am I correct?

I had a computer crash and I did want to restore an image. All of them were suddenly corrupt! It is like the police. When you need them they are not on your service. Jacques Wenger Belgium

Is Hyper-V too complicated for the following.
by Guest ThomasAJ- 10 replies

I want to upgrade to W2008 down the track but in the meantime I want a backup box for my 4YO IBM X206 running W2003. (I cannot get another X206) I was thinking of Installing W2008 with Hyper-V on a new box, and have an area (whatever it's called) set aside so I can use it as an emergency backup for my current W2003. Or is Hyper-V too sophisticated (and too great a learning curve) for this scenario and a simpler product exists. -- Regards Tom

keyboard error when locking the machine
by Guest lab-guy- 2 replies
Hi all - Lock my machine several times a day using (win key & L) when I walk away from the desk. When I come back, I put in my password and I'm in. Sometimes, though, I get an error when putting in my password, that the caps lock in on. I cannot turn caps lock off, and can't get back in to the machine, so end up shutting it down. Is extra annoying because I run an emulator window to an AS400 , and the 400 doesn't always let be back in right away. Any ideas ? Thanks - Mike

install 02 win xp on the same disk

I am in need to install another win xp pro SP3 on the same Disk partitioned in C: and D: in NTFS format. I ask: Is it possible to get it or there will be conflict? For the boot what is the best? I think to rewrite the command line in boot.ini, like it: [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)Windows= "Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition" multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)Windows="Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition" /fastdetect This will work? Or then I tink also in use the magic boot from partition magic Could MVP explain to me?

Could someone possibly help me?

Outlook ignores rules
by Guest Dudely- 2 replies

Outlook 2000 is ignoring some of my rules. Please note, many of my rules do in fact work. There are however a handful that simply will not do what I tell them to do. For example, I have a rule setup to look in the message header for "X- Sender: laxminivasmittal@gmail.com" (no quotes) - I'm simply cutting & pasting from a real received email whose spam I'm trying to delete. It processes my inbox, but never finds a match even though it is without question in there. I've also tried looking for the From: line as a match on the sender. No go. Any solutions? Thank you in advance
