Automatic Printing to a File Name in Windows
by Guest JimR- 1 reply
I have read the article "kbprint KB119256", in Microsoft KnowledgeBase, which explains how to setup a path and file name for a printer that basically has a FILE port type. I am wondering if it is possible to have the filename change dynamically. For example: append some sequence counter. The idea being that in a multiple-user network many users printing to the same printer would not overlay each others files. The prefix would be consistent: "\\server\path\fileXXXX.txt" where XXXX will be the result of some sequence counter generated by Windows automatically.

WHS Windows Home Server
by Guest - Bobb -- 7 replies

I looked and couldn't find specific newsgroup for WHS, so if this is the right group... I've looked around and still wondering: 1. Who / what is the target market for it ? If it's homes with a lot of PC's - it that market really big enough ? 2. Getting HOME server vs. "regular server 2003" ... Would you know ... I would assume that the ISP charges for " a server" as opposed to PC ? My reason for asking is that I've been watching it since release and thinking "what can this do for users that Server2003 couldn't". I thought there would be some software app included / some big reason to "have to have it", but I don't see anything. From the write-ups, it d…

Web page opened-up position in task bar
by Guest Vincent- 1 reply
I don't see what I've done recently so that the web pages I opened all appeared on the right, instead of the left corner of the task bar, which is the usual case. What's more, only one page was in sight on the task bar, I'd to use the up- and downward arrows to come to another page. Could anyone tell me how to come back to the default setting of the task bar, please? Thanking you in advance. Vincent

nslookup reports wrong DNS server
by Guest Robert S- 1 reply

I've been having a few networking problems contacting other computers. We have a small network with a router (192.168.0.1) and a DNS/DHCP server (192.168.0.33). The router is able to provide these services but I have disabled DHCP. Despite this, the nslookup command reports the router as the DNS server. C:\Documents and Settings>nslookup google.com Server: http://www.routerlogin.com Address: 192.168.0.1 Non-authoritative answer: Name: google.com Addresses: 64.233.167.99, 64.233.187.99, 72.14.207.99 All of the other PCs on our network (correctly) use 192.168.0.33 as the DNS server. I've tried setting the DNS server manually to 192.168.…

Audio Problems on Vista x64
by Guest Bobby Johnson- 4 replies

Last night when I tried watching some video news clips online I could not hear the sound because it was very, very low and I wasn't able to find anyway to increase the volume. Windows sounds seem to be normal and the Realtek HD audio control seems to be playing the test sounds correctly. I have Vista x64 on a Biostar TA770 A2+ with a Phenom 9600+ and 8GB RAM. This seems to have just suddenly happened. I did download the latest Realtek HD driver, but that didn't seem to change anything. I'm open to suggestion.

I can connect to my wireless network at home but I'm at another location with wireless service and I cannot connect to any wireless networks. The Windows message says "Windows cannot configure this wireless connection. if you have enabled another program to manage this wireless connection, use that software. If you want Windows to configure this wireless connection, start the Wireless Configuration Service. I did this per the instruction in Microsoft article 871122 but it's still not working. My computer crashed and the hard drive was replaced a few months ago by a professional, who reloaded the operating system. I did not have this problem b…

Windows Integrated Authentication broken
by Guest Dale- 5 replies

I have an XP PRO SP3 system on which Integrated Authentication is broken. When I try to access a network resource on my Windows 2003 domain the system always asks me to supply the password. I can click the "Save Password" option in the dialog box and that works for a while. This is a problem in connecting with the Exchange server, file server and webserver so it is not protocol specific. I also doublechecked that IE 7 has "Integrated Authentication" checked. This only happens for one computer. All the others are fine? Any ideas?

I have a windows 2003 member server on a separate subnet and site from our 2003 domain controller. last week I demoted a windows 2000 server that had issues with active directory. the member server at the other site was working fine. now my 2003 member server at the other site will not hand out dhcp addresses, says it is not authorized. when I access DHCP on this server from the domain controller at the first site, it shows red as unauthorized, but when I try to go to authorize it, it only allows me the option to UNauthorize it, and will not let me do even that. in Event Viewer on the member server I get an Userenv error, event 1053: Windows cann…

MDAC for Server 2003?

I've been told by one of our vendors that I need MDAC installed on my server to run their app -- however, none of the MDAC downloads I can find seem to support Server 2003, or even Server 2000, for that matter. Are there versions specifically for server, or is it all one and the same? Thanks

Windows XP Home, SP 2; IE 7, version 7.0.5730.11. When I open IE, I cannot access the internet. In the tab that opens it reads, "403 Forbidden", and on the web page it reads, "You were denied access because: Access denied by access control list". I do have internet access since Widows Update has downloaded and installed updates and my anti-virus software has also updated itself. I have reset all IE settings to factory defaults. I have gone to Start -> Set Program Access and Defaults and reset it every-which-way to make IE the default browser and it seems to keep reseting itself to Custom -> Use Current Web Browser. Did I inadvertently screw-…

After we close down a RemoteAPP, we see that the user session is disconnected on the server in Terminal Services Manager. These sessions are not logging off on their own. We have to right-click the session and select log-off. How do we get the log-off to happen automatically when the user closes the RemoteAPP? -- Thanks!
