Clone a Windows Server

Before doing some changes in my server configuration (installing new application and policies for example)I would like to make an image of the hard drive to an external USB Hard Disk because if sometime goes wrong I would like to revert the system. I don’t need any fancy multicasting feature. I would appreciate any recommendation. Can I use the windows server system restore feature or I should use a commercial tool?

I have a developer that wants to troubleshoot and issue we are having and needs to be able to see the application log on our Windows 2003 server. Is there an easy way I can grant him this access. I'm currently saving the application log and placing it in a shared folder but that's getting old and wasting a lot of our time. Thanks.

I am running Server2008 and have installed a network scanner. The installation worked properly but now, the system does not find %windir%\TWAIN_32.DLL. It is not there, OK, but in other windows systems it exists. Does Server2008 not support TWAIN anymore or is the file missing? If so, where can I obtain it? Thanks for your time ole

Terminal Server Computers Group
by Guest Will- 2 replies

We run terminal server licensing on the domain controller in one of our domains. There is a group Terminal Server Computers that up to now we have left unpopulated. The absence of entries in this group has not stopped terminal server licensing from working. What controls when this group is actively enforced, such that the absence of any entry in the group will stop terminal server licensing from working with any terminal server? -- Will

boot problem with mapped drives
by Guest Lorne- 3 replies
I have a W2000 SP4 machine on a peer to peer network, connected by wireless card. there are 2 mapped drives to another machine. When turned on the boot stops with a message unable to connect to a netwrork drive, do you want to connect next time? I say yes and it boots OK, then I execute a batch file that connects to the other machine (there is a password) and all is fine. However it is very annoying that the boot stops and will only complete with manual intervention. The problem is that the wireless card is not initialised early enough so when Windows tries to connect during boot the network is not available. so I ask: 1. Is it possible to chang…

RE: Files and Settings Transfer Wizard

RE: Files and Settings Transfer Wizard Hi to all just adding my comments I have used F+STW for years as I upgrade, build, rebuild and reload PCs. I do not trust it as I have had problems with it so I always back up my files to disk anyway. I HAVE FOUND; It's the speed of the re install. I set a folder on the desktop and run the collection wizard to store into it. I then copy this folder across my network to another PC. If I use an external drive (as the old drive was full I just plug this into a second PC on the network.) It seems faster to colect first to a folder and then copy that to a second pc. I then rebuild the offending pc. I install…

Hi, I have a TS that is also the Print Server for our network. I don't want TS users to be able to change the printers' settings. I would be even cooler to be able to define which printers they can see, but that isn't really an issue. More bothered about them fiddling around in there configuring defaults to undesirable settings. Any clues? TIA, Jarryd

I am running an MS Access ODBC app on Terminal Server under MS Windows 2003 R2. It connects to a SQL Server 2005 DB. The app runs fine from the console using the Access runtime engine, but fails when running from any user logging in to the Terminal Server. The failure occurs when attempting to access the SQL DB. Any ideas? TIA

Bad image checksum

Hi, I have a pc with xp home. It was runnning fine. I downloaded sp2 and it stopped responding at the cleaning up stage. I did an alt cntrl delete to restart the pc and now it just keeps restarting. I have selected safe mode, last known good config and stop reboot when windows has an error. All with no success. I either get a blue screen stated," stop: c0000221 bad checksum. The image comdlg32.dll is probably corrupt. The header checksum does not match the computed checksum or it just keeps restarting. Thanks, John

I've rebooted, rebooted the internet receiver, reinstalled the adapter software etc. to no avail. I also tried reinstalling service pack 2. Any ideas?

Remote Destop (for administration)
by Guest apaquette- 5 replies

I am supporting a company with 6 Windows 2003 servers in the domain. I can remote into 5 of OK. The 6th server is the issue. "Remote Desktop" is enabled on the System Properties/Remote screen. On Network Connections/Properties/Advanced/Firewall Settings/Advanced, under both Services and Exceptions Remote Desktop in enabled for TCP 3389. Portqry shows TCP 3389 (ms-wbt-service) LISTENING, UDP 3389 (unknown service) NOT LISTENING. However, when I attempt to remote connect, even from it's own client, it cannot connect. Any suggestions on how to make this work? Thanks

I am trying to solve this very strange problem. First I found the issue in code, but then I replicated in explorer. Whenever I try to copy any file from a windows server 2003 x86, to any windows server 2003 x64, the machine bluescreens crash. I have successfully copied files between x86 and x86, and x64 and x64. As well, i can copy from x64 to x86. This is very annoying. Any thoughts???

I finally cleared up all the metadata issues and have completely removed the 2000 server domain controller from our domain, leaving just 2003 server as domain controller and several 2003 member servers. this is really the only system I can use as a backup domain controller at this site, so I want to add it back as a domain controller. is it okay to give it back its original name, or should I rename it when I add it back? gary
