Just want to be very sure. If i buy a 64 BIT physical host machine, can i : a) install 32 bit microsoft server 2003 / 2008 into a 64 bit host without virtualisation ? b) use microsoft hypervisor 64 bit on this host and run 32 and 64 bit GUESTS ?

OK, I did a new install of 2003 R2 from an ISO on a VM and I did not have the ISO of disc 2 handy until now, after I've applied service pack 2 and all high priority updates. When I cancelled the prompt continue setup with disc 2, what did I miss, and how can I resume the setup now that I have disc 2? Thanks!

Hi, I have a service running on Windows 2003 Server. This service sometimes just crashes. Nothing really being shown in the event logs except for an error message related to that service crashing that says: "Instrumentation Directory is invalid or Missing - Closing Application" Does anyone have any idea what this might mean? I got a customer with a central office and 30 branch offices. Those offices have from 1 to 20 users. The branch offices are connected to the central one using frame relay lines, some with 128K and some (the bigger ones) with 256K. They use some windows servers and some Unix Servers. All the servers are located in the central office basically to host web or dump terminal applications. They tell me that so far they are happy with the speed response from the network. I just installed a new 2003 Server. Installed the Admin pack on my pc but don't see the Remote Desktop connection utility that allows me to connect to my servers. Where do I get this?

Going back to the Windows NT days, we used to run Service pack install again anytime you install a windows component. So if I install server 2003 R2 and download and install all critical updates, and later decide I need to install terminal services or other windows components/applications, should I run Service Pack 2 again and then critical updates again? I guess it couldn't hurt but I would like to know if that is still necessary or did the service pack replace all the component install files which have been changed? Seems the latter is not possible but I am not sure. Thanks!

Dear Sir/Madam, Am using windows server 2003 enterprise edition as Terminal server with 30 profiles, from last 15 days my Terminal server is getting hung randomly and there is no error log in event viewer and have checked with Dell (as am using Dell server) and get the clearance that there is no problem with hardware. MS Access loads but does not run. Hello! My DHCP Server logs the Event 1020. The Eventdescription states, that all of the IP Addresses in the Scope are in use. I did setup an scope with just 2 IPs because I need to serve only 2 Guests every now and then with an IP. Is there a way to suppress these Warnings? I did lookup the Registry under(HKEY_Local_Machine\SYSTE;\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCPServer\Parameter) but i didn't find an suitable Parameter to adjust. Thanks for you help in advance. Hans

I have XP Professional now with SP3 and used the built in backup (ntbackup.exe). The program now no longer works: the only thing I get to see is "the green beam with: busy to look for backupmedia"… From a CD with XP Home I've activated ntbackup.msi: it doesn't work. I also downloaded ntbackup installer, the installer replaces then in system32 the existing ntbackup.exe file and… nothing. Then I've copied from another pc with XP Professional the files ntbackup.exe, ntbackup.hlp and ntbackup.chm and plced them in system32 and……

I clicked on My Computer and then right clicked on C: / Properties / Tools. Then Error Checking / Check Now. I clicked Start - Then got Disk Check Complete (No results) I then ran Automatically fix file system errors - it did it thing and once again (no results). I then ran Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. Once again it did it's thing and once again - no results. Am I supposed to be seeing any results? Or am I using wrong procedure?
