Windows XP Pro - SP 2 Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41) This is the code error that I get when I look at the properties of my newly installed DVD burner / reader. This is an USB wired external unit. I got the same message when I purchased an internal model. I took that one back and purchased the USB one - since ALL my USB items work! I've installed / un-installed multiple times, the PC fires up and plug & play "sees" the DVD player using USB, but then it dissapears! The DVD player is powered up, and will except a CD - but just sits there. Windows successfully loaded …

Outlook 98 Upgrade keeps failing on XP
by Guest Jim H.- 6 replies

Money's tight and anyway, I've always been completely satisfied with my Office 97 and the upgrade to Outlook 98 but I just have to get off this Pentium II (running 98SE). So I purchased a 3G P4 (Asus) machine for a very low price and have loaded my Office 97 onto XP Pro. (I've read elsewhere in this forum that this will work fine.) Now, when I attempt to do the upgrade from Outlook 97 to Outlook 98, I get the following error message: "Setup has encountered a problem which makes it necessary for you to reboot your machine before setup can continue. Please reboot your machine and then rerun setup" However, rebooting has no effect. I still get the same…

XP Pro, SP2. Have disk. Retail version. Not OEM. I have a exclaimation mark in my network adapters on the "Packet scheduler miniport 4". It says "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)". I have tried to uninstall and reinstall but the error message says "Unable to uninstall. This device may be required to boot the computer". Clicked properties and I tried to update driver but I cannot seem to find the path when I insert my XP disk. Does anyone have the path I can look in on my cd so it reloads the driver or whatever it needs. Thanks

Dear Microsoft 1 2

I think you have overthought all your problems and have come to the assuption that your customers are bad people. So you have all these security measures implemented that do nothing but screw up your operating system and alienate your customers. People aren't stealling your operating system, they are trying to get the cost down to a level so they can afford it. Most buy the software then try to put it on more than one machine to justify the cost. You have so many security measures in place that if you just replace your video card or upgrade your memory, you have to ask permission from microsoft or they shut down your computer. Thanks big brother. M…

Windows Desktop Search.

Hello: Ever since I downloaded (via Windows Update) WDS version 5.1, I noticed in the Event Viewer under "Security" up to 100 Event ID's 528 and 576. This happens everytime that WDS indexes. With the older version of Windows Search this never happened. I don't like the idea of "Security" getting hammered with this many events because it could hide a "real" security problem in the clutter. Other than removing the new WDS what can I do to stop these entries? I appreciate any info on this matter. Thanks, Fred

What is the significance of CD1 vs. CD3 ? -Do I use one set over the other ? Or, do I use both ? -What exactly does CD7 do ? When do I need it ? Can someone help explain these ? Removing a drive from a software RAID 5 array. Win2K3 server
by Guest Calab- 2 replies

I have a Windows 2003 Server that currently has five 500gig drives in a RAID 5 array. The array is healthy. Unfortunately, we need temporarily need a 500gig drive for an issue unrelated to this machine. Other than losing the protection of RAID 5, would there be any issues if we shut down the server, removed one drive, and brought the server back online? If we format the removed drive and use it elsewhere can we still be able to reinstall it into the server and let the array rebuild itself? From what I understand, this should all be fine, as long as we don't have another drive fail in the array while a drive is removed. I also know performance will s…

I have an 8 button mouse. I like to use button 3 for 'double clicking'. For some reason unknown to me this button no longer performs this function when I start W XP. I then go to Start > Control Panel > Mouse > Buttons > Button 3 Double Click > Modify > OK > Apply > OK. After doing the previous I get a message " to protect your computer Windows has closed this program, Name: Run a DLL as an App". I close this message and get a second message asking if I want to send an error report to MS. I close this message and my mouse button 3 is now able to do double - clicking. This will now work fine untin I close down W XP and then restart it. A…

hello all, in eventwr sometimes we have Data: 0000: 0000007a microsoft says: The data section of the events may contain important information for troubleshooting. Change the view of the data section of the event from bytes to words. Investigate the status code in the data words of the events. The error code gives an additional hint for the reason why the event has been logged. At a command prompt, type Net Helpmsg ErrorNumber to obtain an explanation of that error. NET HELPMSG 0000007a cannot work How to interpret this?

Hello, We run a Windows 2003 domain. Our laptop users homefolders are made available off line through the use of Group Policy. The problem I have is this: User A leaves the company, before I give User A's laptop to a different user, I need to get the laptop to STOP trying to synchronize usr A's homefolder. I have tried the following: *Getting properties of User A in ADUAC and getting rid of their home folder path. *Deleting the User A's local profile on the laptop None of the above works, it still tries to sync to their folder when logging out of the laptop. If I am logged in as User A, and I right-click on their home-folder, I cannot un…

I downloaded and installed SP3 on my notebook and when it had finished, I got a small black screen (looked like DOS screen) stating some files (I believe) were installed (I think it said that).everything appears to have gone fine. After I did the download and install on my desktop, I noticved at the final moment, the small black screen came up (and a few white text lines appeared stating "access denied.") I don't know what that was all about. I am using the desktop now and it appears to be okay. Should I worry about that "access denied" white text I saw?

by Guest Swissy- 8 replies

Hi Recently, when I receive .jpg attachments from people and I try to open them, I get an error message that says there is no association for the file type It shows the file type as WER. I've never seen this before and I never had this problem in the past. The file extension of the attachment is ..jpg. When I save the files to my folder, it also shows the description under the type as WER. What is this type of file and any idea how to get my computer settings to treat these files as jpg's the way it did before?
