0xc0000005 Recycle Bin exception error: It's baaaaack...

Using WinXP with all updates etc in place. Lately I've started getting the 0xc0000005 error again increasingly more frequently when I double-click on the Recycle Bin or do a right-click / Open. Right-click "Explore" and "Empty" cause no problems. Didn't KB938828 fix this? Has anyone else started seeing this behavior again? -- Bob http://www.kanyak.com

Delayed audio input and Mic In problems
by Guest Bidski- 1 reply

Sorry if im posting in the wrong area here. Im experiencing a problem that is boggling my mind on biblical proportions. I have a Gigabyte GA-M56S-S3 motherboard with Realtek ALC888 Audio Codec (Realtek HD Audio) onboard sound card. I have 2 problems which may or may not ne related (most probably not related). Firstly, my Mic In port (both on the front and the rear) produce a distorted and ever repeating noise whenever a signal is applied and i am unable to source where this sound is coming from or where it originated from. This has only recently shown up and nothing has changed in the system either software or hardware wise. Secondly, the "Line In" au…

The windows registry is an important component of your pc which keeps all the important configuration information about your computers hardware and software settings. So if your' e computer is showing signs of slower performances and faulty applications then the probability is high that it is a registry problem. The problem is caused when you continuously install and uninstall software programs from your computer over time. You see, this causes your registry to become "bloated" and becomes erroneus due to the constant additions and removals of these entries. Most of these programs only partially uninstall which leaves your hard drive litteres with residuals causing…

File search
by Guest millin- 8 replies

Hi All, I want to find a solution for one of our file structure implemented in our organization. We are having a Kofax scanner that scans all the incoming documents (drawings) and place automatically in a network shared folder; this is ongoing for last 10 years or so. The software does it by copying every 500 files in a single folder so you can image how many number of files are there in that shared folder, like that we have got 500 folders. So anybody can give me a quicker solution for finding the obsolete drawings on each folder by not going to each folder, looking for the pdf documents and delete one by one looking for the issue numbers. eg:- …

Hi all, I can't delete or rename files on shared folder that I have been opened. it always say Cannot delete or rename this file : It is being used by another person or program close any program that might be using the file and try again. I quite sure nobody opened this file and I rebooted the client machine. I have to reboot my server to solve this problem but it's too bad if I have to do it every time this problem happened. Does anyone know ? What is this reason? and how to fix this? Thank you, Woody Kee.

System Restore - changing data?
by Guest Terry Pinnell- 6 replies
I've just realised that System Restore actually ALTERS data, i.e adds duplicate folders. Is that correct? Has this always been the case? Or is it just on my newish XP Pro PC, as against my old XP Home system? Surely that screws up the whole concept, which I'd thought was to backup/restore just the REGISTRY? -- Terry, East Grinstead, UK

Limited User Account has too much access to computer
by Guest SteveParks- 2 replies

Hello to anyone with the knowledge! I'm using XP Home Svc pack 2. My first problem is that I would like the access of more folders to be restricted to limited user accounts on my computer. I don't understand why in the sharing tab (under properties) of some folders I can check "make this folder private" and in other folders, this is not checkable or uncheckable. I would think that any folder on the Administrator's account should be denied access to a Limited account, not just the Administrator's My Docs folder. My second problem and the reason why I'm here is that I have an external hard drive connected by USB. I can go into the Guest user account, and h…

Thanks to R. McCarty, Defrag working again!

Subject: Re: Defrag no longer works! 7/24/2008 11:25 AM PST Thank you R. McCarty, everything is working as normal once again but without sp3. You were quite correct when you wrote: When you installed SP3 it migrated the MMC (Microsoft Management Console) to version 3.0. Once you removed SP3 the system doesn't roll back the MMC. The simplest solution is to update MMC for use with Service Pack 2. Information & Downloads here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907265 Simple solution to major poblem - thanks once again - Andrew

IE6 missing from add-remove
by Guest Roger Fink- 8 replies

I want to try to fix a problem in a friend's W2K computer (over the phone) by having her use the repair function for IE6 where it's listed in add-remove. Unfortunately, on her computer IE6 it is not listed in add-remove. Is there something I can have her do in Windows (hopefully easy since she's a Mac user) to get this to work, either by restoring it to add-remove, or entering a command to repair IE6 from the command prompt, or some other technique?

Most of you on here are aware of the taskbar infotip problem where occasionally they will hide behind the taskbar. The fix I have used is to click Start/Programs and right click any program and choose sort-by-name. After installing SP3 a couple of hours ago i noticed this fix no longer works. How come?, and how do i get my info tips back where they belong?.

Packet/Traffic Analysis
by Guest Chris- 5 replies

Hello all, I'd like to monitor traffic flowing through my server 2003 server, and if possible be more specific i.e. something came in on Port 80 and was accessing http://www.domain.co.uk It's so I can see what traffic is more commonly seen, where it's going, etc and be able to display it in a nice graph, or chart, etc. also, would the same software be able to monitor an external NIC from a remote location to see what traffic is going through that as well as the server NIC? i.e. if I have a load balanced setup I'd like to see what is coming into the router as well as what is coming into each server. Does anyone know of anything? Thanks all Chris

My update notifications for my antivirus program is goofing up. Someone told me that Windows Security Center will notify me if av definitions are older than 7 days. Is this true? I have always had the security center service disabled. If I turn it on again, can I have it set only to come into the System Tray and notify me if something is wrong? -- Paul MS Office Pro 2003 XP Home Dell Inspiron 1501

Hyperterminal was removed from Vista and thus I assume from Server 2008. I have a firewall that needs to be setup using a null modem serial interface. Is there any included software in Server 2008 that will interface to the server port and let me set up the firewall?
