Date mysteriously changing.
by Guest Amanda- 4 replies

For some unknown reason the date in my XP Pro SP2 "Date & Time Properties" has suddenly decided to change the current day to a date 8 days ahead. Why - heavens knows. I can select the date - click "apply" and then one second later literally watch the highlighted date gently change from the current day to 8 days ahead. I've tried everything I can think of - does anyone have any ideas because it is a bit awkward sending mails etc as it looks as if I'm in the future. Many thanks.

Hi, I have a Windows 2000 server that I want to upgrade the hard disk from IDE to SATA. I used ghost to transfer the content from the IDE disk to the SATA. The server is bootable after the ghosting (on the SATA drive). However, as soon as I upgraded the basic disk to dynamic disk, it said any OS that is previous installed on this disk will not be bootable. Of course, the disk was not boot able after the upgrade. I have done this before but I don't know why it didn't work this time. Do anyone has suggestion on this? Thanks

What is it and do I need it for the computer run right. I checked it in the add and remove and it told me was rarely used. As I have no Idea as to what it is or what it does that would be the reason for rarely used being there.

Strange group scope / permissions issue

Hello All, Currently on our domain it seems we are unable to add built-in domain local groups to the ACL any folders on the network. When you try to view groups from the "builtin" container in AD they do not show up as available. For example: If we want to add the built-in domain local group "Backup Operators", to the ACL of a folder it cannot be seen by the machine, no mater which location you have selected. You can point it directly at the container and still it does not want to find any built-in group. This is a domain wide issue affecting all machines that I have tested. The domain functional level is Windows 2000 native and the servers are mostly…

by Guest melaniem- 3 replies

I have a user who is having problems coping files from her remote session desktop to her laptop's desktop. I checked the Local resource settings and "disk drives" is selected. When she tries to copy and paste she gets this message: "Item not collected: Format not supported by Office Clipboard" and I haven't been able to figure out what the problem is. This happens with word docs, excel, jpg, pdf and other common file types. Suggestions?

My Computer, Control Panel, My documents Flashes and disappears

When I click on My computer, Control Panel, Windows Explorer among others, the screen flashes (icons and apps are gone but the background stays), comes back but neither of those work. I can access control panel directly by running appwiz.cpl. I've created a new user profile to weed out profile corruption but the issue stays. Done so far: Clean temp files, run avg 8 and removed spyware + virus, remove unnecessary tool bars and apps, install sp3. No changes. Hi This is odd, a w2k3 server, in a SBS2003 domain, was allowing remote desktop connections until last Friday using domain accounts. This AM, a remote desktop login is rejected, as: 1219, Unable to obtain Terminal Server User Configuration. Error: The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. However, the same domain account can log in from the console. Any ideas?

limit application to one instance across multiple terminal session
by Guest Haakon D- 2 replies

I am working with a terminal server (win 2003 sp2) that we have installed a the 3rd party client application for our database on - however this app seems to be limited to one licence per machine - and if two are detected one bombs out and causes corruption. I want to ensure that no more than once instance of the application is allowed to run on the server at anyone time - something that simply informs the second user that *user* currently has the app open etc would be fine. I've read about mutexs etc - but these solutions all seem geared to someone customising their own application to prevent multiple instances. thanks for any advice Haakon

Cancel autoplay on usb hard drives?
by Guest spamlet- 1 reply

I have recently started using a couple of MyBook hard drives for back up, connected by USB. With our XPPro system. When started with the pc they immediately behave like part of the system, but if started only when needed, with the system already running, a dialogue pops up asking if I want to transfer all the files from the new drives back to the pc. In case someone accidentally hits the wrong button, how do I stop the pop up dialogue applying to these particular usb devices? Cheers, S
