SBS 2003: Can't log in as administrator
by Guest Sihvi- 2 replies

Dear All, I restarted our SBS2003 server today and found that the server wont allow me to log in with my administrator login/password anymore. It just claims that the password is incorrect. I'm 100% sure that the password is correct, since I've logged in with that same password several times even today allready. But now, after the restart, the password is rejected. This is unbelievable. If someone would come to tell me this, I would just thought that they have just forgotten the password. I think this has to be experienced your self, to believe. So what can I do? I have already tried the password I used on the server before current one. That doesn't work ei…

Cloned hard drive difficulties
by Guest Moxieman- 4 replies

I bought a used Dell Inspiron 1000 laptop running XP home edition, SP3. I do NOT have either installation CD or rescue CD for it. The hard drive has 3 partitions, a 16-meg (I assume it is boot), a C: drive, and a G: drive, which has the Dell rescue files. The C: drive is marked Healthy (system). The hard drive is dying, so I bought a new hard drive and used Norton Ghost 2003 to clone it onto a new one. I could not assign the equivalent partition on the new hard disc the C: letter because the old, cloned partition's C: drive had that letter. Also, I could make that equivalent partition “Healthy” but not “system.” I understand that I cannot have two partiti…

by Guest Hubert Rétif- 1 reply

Hello, I have a REV35 connected via USB to a 2003 SP1 Server (DELL). It was working quite well during about 2 years. Since last june, it seems to cause the Server rebooting when disks are exchanged (used for daily backups). Having a look to minidump file, it seems that the REV driver is causing this. I have updated to the last version, without success. Any Idea? As additional info, part of diag log file: Firmware Version: 95.B Firmware Date: 11/19/04 Interface: USB Disk system file: REV UDF Version REV-Systemsoftware:2.0.2.22 Regards, Hubert Retif

On 2003 Server SP1 and 2003 R2 SP2 I have recently noticed that I am getting a second Copying window started with preparing paste information in it. Even after the file copy window itself has closed the preparing paste information windows stays open and has the source files locked. Anyone any ideas what this is about and if there are any side effects to cancelling the preparing paste information window? Regards, Major. p.s. Major is my Christian name :-)

XP - Opening Folders In New Window
by Guest mississippimills- 2 replies

I would like to be able to open a new window for a folder, only on occasion. In other words, I want to open new folders in the same window most of the time, but there are times when viewing two windows would be more convenient. However, I want to do this without going through START, My Computer, etc. a second time. Can I add an "Open in new window" choice to the drop-down menu that opens with a right click?

Folder Opening Corrupted.
by Guest Kardon Coupé- 2 replies

Dear All, I recenlty wanted to print a directory to a file, a website pointed me to creating a script, changing Folder Options, etc, etc... So, ok, the Context menu right click worked, so I went to double click a folder to go into it.... Hmmmm, why is VLC player trying to play the contents of the folder, not opening it? So, a bit of research later, tells me (apparantly) if I go into those options to look, and cancel not ok it, it can mess around with it... Anyways, I found Doug Knox's, folder_open.vbs, which I hoped would fix it, it sort of does, but now when I double click a folder, it opens in a new window, I don't want that, I wanted it to open …

Hello, Can we stop the batch files being edited by any one else, like if there is a batch file, we can simply right click and by selecting edit, it will open and any one can see the text in it. Can we put a password on this thing so that before opening, any one should be prompted for password if he opens the file .... Or is there any other way we can stop this thing. Bye.

Major Folder Redirection Issues
by Guest circulent- 2 replies

We are using folder redirection. For some reason we have a few end users which cannot sync correctly. This is the error we get: Failed to apply policy and redirect folder "RoamingAppData" to "\\sql1\profiles$\mlee\Application Data". Redirection options=80009211. The following error occurred: "Failed to redirect because the destinaiton directory "\\sql1\profiles$\mlee\Application Data" is offline". Error details: "The network path was not found. What's odd is that we can access SQL just fine, and the partition called PROFILES is properly shared as PROFILES$. Does anyone have any ideas why this might be broken? Thanks

XP & Vista to 2000
by Guest Information- 6 replies

Due to budget limitations, I am working with the following: We have a Win2000 workstation (SP4) that houses a database program to be accessed through a shared folder to the remainder of our stations. Station 1 is an XP Home box (SP3), Station 2 is a Vista laptop (SP1). XP and Vista can see each other, but only the XP box has a printer shared. Vista can see that, and a temporary shared test folder, We removed the folder share after seeing it worked. Neither can access the shared folder on the 2000 box. Both XP and Vista firewalls are disabled, there is no Norton or McAfee installed, only AVG. I have added the user/passwords to the user list on the 2000 ma…

search indexer just.. will.. not.. STOP
by Guest Argh!- 2 replies

It keeps popping up in my process list after I manually end it. Yes, I've disabled it with services.msc and no, it won't STAY disabled. And no, there's no "Windows Search" or similar entry in the Add/Remove list -- or the Installer Clean Up utility or anywhere else on the HD that I can find -- in order to uninstall it. I'm sure someone will ask me WHY I would even want it gone, so let me head u off. First, it's a resource hog -- it sits there, does nothing for me, yet eats up, on average, 25MB of memory. Second, I never use it. Third, because of reasons 1 & 2, it annoys me that it refuses to stay down. So, the $64,000 is... how do I get RID of…

Dear All, Every time the computer boots something in the registry causes a "My Computer" window to pop up It's not in win.ini system startup etc as I disabled all in msconfig.exe and still the "My Computer" window pops up It's not in the usual places like Run, RunServices as I searched with nothing to find. I want to track down in a log file what activity takes place in the registry as the computer is turned on so that I may find what is causing the "My Computer" window to pop up. Thanking you in advance, Carlos.

Non-System Disk, Press Any Key
by Guest JCO- 4 replies

One of my computers gets this error when trying to boot: Non-System Disk, Press Any Key When I press any key, it boots up okay most of the time but sometimes it blue screens. The harddrive is in a removable tray. I've taken the HD out and put in another drive. I get the same issue, therefore, I don't think it's HD controller (I think?). What else would give this error? Also, this seem to happen on with IDE2 only. When I boot using IDE1.... no issues. Does this mean I have an issue with the motherboard's IDE2 Socket. Thanks.

I have problem in controlling which devices are allowed to be enabled and disabled by users on Remote Desktop Tab of TS Web Access. I have set "true" to XClipboard and xDriverRedirection, and "false" to other redirection options in Application Settings of ts website. But the ts web page does not honor such changes (Printers option is still enabled and Drives option is disabled). Any one knows the fix? Thanks.

Unreadable/unchangeable fonts
by Guest kenw- 2 replies

I've found many threads which are oh-so-close to describing my problem -- but no solutions. The displayed font for dialogs, etc are a in tiny little font which in nearly unreadable. An example is the "Turn off computer" dialog: The font on the title bar looks to be courier (but other dialog title bars have a different font). It says "Turn off compu" before the text get clipped. The yellow, red, and green icons are not squares but rectangles. The "cancel" font is in a tiny font. I cannot affect any of these fonts through the Display Properties: Appearance: Advanced tab even though the preview indicates the change. I don't know if this has any bearing,…

I have a small home network where I share files and a printer. The PC sharing files and the printer is a Windows 98 PC. Everything was working fine until recently. I can not longer print with users with limited account to the network printer. These user accounts can see and share file in the PC sharing the files and printer, but these accounts can not print. I uninstalled Norton 360 to see if Norton was causing the problem, but the outcome was the same… I could still not print to the …
