Hello Everyone I am using avast home and every now and then it calls a programm called ashserv32.exe which by it's name is 32 bit the trouble it uses 25% cpu. This is a pain when I am runing the only game I play as this makes it unplayable. btw I have dual core cpu E6750 Is there any 64 bit antivirus software that does not have this problem? Thank you.

Hi, My HP 8000 is installed on 64-bit windows 2003 server and share to all users, however Vista user get problem when install driver from the server. I can install the driver locally on the vista PC, how can I add network shared port like \\MyServerName\PrinterShareName on Vista. I don't want to add local TCP/IP port. Any help will be appreciated! Hi! We have some legacy code that uses OLE DB to connect to a SQL server. After migrating to Windows Server 2008, the code stopped working. The error we are seeing is 80040E4D, "Invalid authorization specification". Below is the VBScript that we use to reproduce the error. This script runs without problems on Server 2003 and XP computers but fails on any 2008 box. Hello there, I am getting on an AD server with print services installed in the system event viewer all the remote notifications that some remote printer on a remote server needs driver update. I already have unchecked the "show information notification for network printers" and only have "log spooler error and warning events checked". What can I do? Thanks, T

The time the system starts out of hibernation must be logged somewhere. Does anyone know what log file holds the time stamp? Thank You for any help. John

I have been running the server backup on Windows Server 2008 for about 6 months. In the last 3 days, backup has failed with the error "Backup ended before completing. Creation of the shared protection point timed out." I googled it and found nothing. I have no idea what this error is, can anyone shed some light? Thanks!

Hello all, I'm running Hyper-V on Server 2008 Enterprise 64-bit edition. I've got a VBScript that opens up a virtual disk (.vhd file) on the Server 2008 system, modifies a file stored within the virtual disk, and then unmounts the .VHD file. This script works providing I "Run as Administrator" - any other account, regardless of whether it's a member of the local Administrators group or not, cannot run the script without it erroring out on mounting the ..VHD. Stepping through the script, I've noticed that Windows sees the .VHD and attempts to add it to the system, and the Driver Software Installation dialog reports that it was added successfully. H…

Power Options used to work acceptably well on my Gateway desktop. Now it will not automatically put my system into hibernation. I have disabled the Fax from waking the system when a call comes in. Hibernation is enabled. I have the Power Options set to hibernate the system after 2 hours. I use my wireless notebook in the evenings and need to have the desktop on then. I am somewhat handicapped and getting upstairs to turn the computer off is difficult. I was using the Power Options to conserve energy. Now, when I come upstairs in the morning, the monitor is off, but the drives are running and the system is not in standby or hibernation mode. The Power Option…

I received a notice that I'm eligible for a free upgrade to the 2009 version of Norton antivirus. After downloading it, the install couldn't continue until I remove ZoneAlarm. I'm not happy with Norton - It takes does things I don't want it to do, slows down the computer, etc. Will switch to a different antivirus when the contract is up, but have about 6 months to go on it. Questions - if I do remove ZoneAlarm, can I reinstall it after the Norton upgrade and have both apps work properly? I remember a previous issue such as this with these 2 apps. Hi I am troubleshooting a problem Im having with my computer connecting to torrents. I suspect the culprit is Windows Firewall but I cannot shut it off. It says, "for your security some settings are controlled by group policy." I did not enact a group policy, I am the only person who uses this pc. I have the only user account minus the Guest login. I have XP Home edition. Is there a way to Uninstall the Firewall or maybe get rid of this "group policy?" I have already tried making exceptions for my programs but it doesn't work.

I added an Enterprise CA to a domain controller. When accessing the IIS interface, we request a certificate using the Advanced Certificate Request option. Then we select the Create & submit a request to this CA. On the request page only 2 templates are available: Basic EFS & User. I opened the Certificate Templates in an MMC & saw many more certificates, including Computer, which I want to use. I don't understand why these templates are unavailable at run time. To the Microsoft support team, or anybody, I have a HP DV1000 laptop that I bought from Staples office supply. When I bought it had service pack 1 on it. Over the years it has updated and upgraded automatically. It recently upgrade to service pack 3. It has a 1.5 Gb processor, 100 Gb hardrive, and 1 Gb of ram memory. Recently, I found that I have only 23 Gb's of free space on the hardrive. I started cleaning my documents but barely made a dent in freeing up space. When a user times out in their remoteapp session, the whole terminal server screen appears with the login box in the center. Is there a way I can have it just show the small log on dialog box...like the one that initially appears the first time the remote app is launched? -- Thanks!

In windows XP you have to check a box in the system properties to allow remote desktop. Does anybody know if there is a way to check this box remotely? I want to active on our users workstations but I don't want to have to walk all around our company to do it. Do I have any options? Thanks, Jasper

Where do you setup the option to increase the timeout session for the RDP connection for the client. Default is setup to 10 minutes. Can this be done on a per user basis ?

Hello to all, As I have four questions which are mentioned below: 1.) I'm using a batch file & it is in Startup folder. It runs every time when I log in. I'm using three commands in it. Every time its shows Ok mesage when a command is executed successfully, so I want to disable the "Ok" mesage, I have used "@ECHO OFF" after every command but it doesn't work. Hello: I have created one internet shortcut in favorites folder that belongs to all users folder. I have assigned the correct permissions in order all users can see and use it. When I login as a user I am not able to see this shortcut. I only see the user own favorites. I would like that every user would have their own favorites and can access to all users favorites. Is possible to point to several folders in Favorites key in Shell Folder section in registry? Than you in advance. Frank.

Is there any way to run it, so that it only gathers up stuff from the "old" PC's boot drive ...i.e. drive C:\ ....the last time I used it, it trawled its' way through all the hard disks it could find in the machine e.g. D:\ and E:\ ....I've got a massive directory structure on drive E:\ with almost my whole life in it ! - which does not need to be crawled through by XP's "Transfer my files and settings" wizard. So is there any way, bar disconnecting all other hd's, to run the wizard so that it will ignore other hard disks in the same machine as the boot-drive ? TIA regards, Richard

Hi All, I have an end user who has WindowsXP Pro SP3. He purchased a document camera, "AverMedia CP150 model". He installed the software while logged on as the local Administrator account. The program will not run, unless you right click on the program icons executable and then choose the "Run As" and choose the local Administrator account. I've checked to make sure the program was added to the Firewall Exception list (it was by default anyway). I want him to be able to open this program while he is logged on as himself to the domain. Today I downloaded from the Corel website a WordPerfect patch for my Windows XP SP3 computers (two of them). When I tried to install the patch, I received the following Windows error message on both computers: "Windows cannot open this file. To open this file, Windows needs to know what program created it..." I checkmarked the option that Windows use the Web service to find the appropriate program, but it said it couldn't find one.
