I hope I'm posting to the right group, if not please let me know... Running Windows 2003 server, clients are all XP Pro SP2 and 3 mixed. Long story short: As far as I can tell the following holds true: User's account is set to require a change of password at the next login. User's Lotus Note's icon points to C: drive, My Documents does not appear to remap to server. User logs out, logs into different machine, Lotus Note icon correctly points to H: drive, My Documents appear to map correctly. User logs out, logs back into machine where passw…

Upgrade Windows Server 2003 SP1 to SP2
by Guest G. Lyon- 6 replies

Release notes for SP2 recommend upgrading SP1 installations using Windows Update to ensure all components work correctly. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc773361.aspx What does Microsoft propose for an organization where servers are isolated and cannot use Windows Update? Has Microsoft provided a comprehensive list of actions to be taken in this situation?

Hello, GMT time is different all over the world. While UTC should be the same all over the world. So if windows could switch back and forth to UTC then that might be handy for people on the internet on different continents/countries/states etc to agree on a same time for meeting up or so ! ;) Bye, Skybuck.

Hi All I have a couple of batch files setup for the admin account but seem to be having a problem. Both these batches deal with data on a permanently mapped drive. 1 remanes some file and deletes some and the other creates pst files. If I login as admin and run the batch files they work fine with no problems but if I use the schedule set to run under admin they say running in the scheduler but don't do anything. Anyone got any ideas Cheers glenn

Backup "insert the following media"
by Guest Dorci- 0 replies

Using Windows XP Pro Backup: I have "My Documents" scheduled to backup to a network drive daily at lunch time. Sometimes when I return from lunch, the backup is waiting for a response to "insert the following media", however there is nothing to insert; the system is already connected to the network. I simply click OK, and it runs. Why can't it sometimes connect? I am hard-wired to the network using a laptop in a docking station. Thanks in advance, Dorci

Unattend.txt to Unattend.xml
by Guest RLEE71- 2 replies

I currently have a scripted method to install Windows 2003 SP2 Server using an Unattend.txt file. Question is, can one deploy Windows 2003 SP2 Server with an Unattend.xml file? I know this is possible with Windows 2008 Server, and MDT is supposed to support Windows 2003 SP2 Server. Just wondering if it was possible and how one would either create or convert from txt. xml file. Thanks, Ron

Protected Services
by Guest Smurfman- 1 reply

This is somewhat of a guessing question... because I can't recall what the feature is, but here goes. I have a Windows 2003 Server with SP2 installed - recently I installed a Third Party Piece of software that created a Windows Service. During a reboot, a dialog box was presented to me related to the exe of the service, I had two choices (checkboxes at the top) One was related to letting the server manage the other was something like allow all but the ones that I select, and then under that was a list box and there was a single entry in the list box that showed the exe name of the service. I left the setting alone, which I think was allow all but what…

PC problem

A neighbor is having a strange problem with his PC as described below: "My computer is a Dell Dimension DIM 3000, with an Intel Pentium processor @2.80 GHz & w/ 2 GB RAM The Operating System is Windows XP, SP3 Windows "Defender" and AVG Anti virus have been active for a long time. Over time, my computer began taking longer and longer to boot up & to load any programs. It then began rather frequently locking up to the point that it would not shut down normally, and the only way to get re-started was to unplug the computer, then re-start. After re-booting, it would run as above for a while, then freeze up again. CCleaner, Spybot, UWClean, and PC Pit…

Can you advice (MS / 3rd party) tools that provide a quick (partial / overall) Windows sanity check? Tools that check essential Windows structures. Kind regards, John7

easiest way to achieve the BSOD upon reboot?
by Guest sobriquet- 2 replies

Hi. Using a screen recorder and virtualization software, I'm making a video tutorial demonstrating the virtues of running a virtual machine and for this purpose I intentionally want to mess up an xp installation to demonstrate how easy it is to recover from a disastrous situation (like a Blue Screen Of Death when you reboot) by reverting to a snapshot prepared in advance. One method to achieve this, is to go to C:\windows\system32 (assuming windows is installed in C:\windows), and simply delete as many files as you can in that location. The problem with this method, is that many files are locked by the system, so the deletion process aborts every time it enco…

Windows 2003 cluster - install MSDTC resource into existing group using existing disk resource Hi, I was wondering what would happen to the data on a existing disk resource on a windows 2003 cluster if I install the MSDTC resource with that disk as a dependancy? I assume the data would remain intact and the MSDTC folder be created, but I would like to make 100% sure! Thanks Matthew
