Greetings, I have been experiencing a number of problems with Windows XP Home Edition (SP2) on my machine. At this point, I have re-installed the operating system half a dozen times with the same suspect behaviour, in spite of getting new install disks from the hardware vendor. So, now I am considering a low level format of the machine, but I am having a very hard time locating a boot disk containing the format or fdisk commands. Can anyone point me to where I could find these files, on this site, hopefully? Thank you. Jean-Pierre

morning all. In trying to resolve an Excel VBA programming issue, I was encouraged to find and install a script56.chm file. That's the actual name of the file. Go to the MS download library and type that name in, and you should call up numerous responses-- the first of which should be a link to download this file. I did so and have found that all I get is a page cannot be displayed error on the right side of the open file. The left side appears to work as normal, but I'm unable to read any of the data in the file. All of a sudden, thumbnail picures under "My Pictures", have red exclamation marks or green check marks under them. When the pix open, the marks are gone, but this just started today. Any reason for this? I don't like changes and suprises. Jane

Hi, I am getting the following error when I startup my WinXP Professional SP3. DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddcAtstt.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette. I am using IE7. How do I get rid of the error. Thnx, -Rahul

Goodmorning, I'm currently trying to create a shortcut for XP users on there desktop through a group policy on my Windows Server 2008. It's an EXE file. They can actually access it through a mapped drive I have created for them, however, I would simply like to create a shortcut on there desktop for convenience. I checked the event viewer on the users dekstop and it says "the specific file could not be found." However, I know the file exists and the path is typed in correctly, and my other GPO's deploy successfully. Hello! I have a Dell Dimension 4400 desktop computer that is plugged into an APC BackUPS battery backup. At random times, it goes into standby on its own, even though the power settings are set to Always on and never go into standby mode. No APC software is installed. ok, so I bought a webcam, Microsoft's LifeCam VX-3000, I installed it..went fine..restarted my computer a few times then..windows won't boot up. I turn the power on, then the 1st Windows screen loads then a blank black screen and no more action. I really don't want to format my computer, I have very important files on it. I have tried the F12, and F8 things, I have also ran a test on my harddrive to make sure it is healthy. I am using Windows XP Pro, with Service pack 3. Please pretty please help me.

My brother is having troible with Internet Explorer. When he tries to make a payment through PayPal it comes up " internet Explorer needs to close this page down. Send error report/ don't send error report." I have updated him to ie8 and reloaded Java but the problem persist and even comes up when he tries to close down a site. Any ideas please. CGee

I am trying to diagnose a problem with a tiny software application called vdat. BACKGROUND: I have a large live music collection...much of it is recorded onto Digital Audio Tape (DAT). I have a DDS tape drive (Sony SDT-9000) with a special firmware update which allows the drive to read digital audio data and transfer it to my hard drive at up to 4 times normal speed. Hello, I have MDT 2003 installed and it seems to running just fine to install OS, but I cannot get it to install ANY applications. I have followed the instructions included in the documentation that accompanies MDT and have posted questions on several newsgroups and have still not been able to get MDT to serve the applications after the OS install and reboot. As I understand it, there is a script that needs to run after the OS install and it logs into the new install and then runs the app install that was requested during WinPE setup. This never happens on my installs. If I manually fire up the script, then it works, but not otherwise. What am I not do…

Hi, On a Windows Server 2003 SP2 file server, we have a folder, only one folder, that does not have a security tab and that we cannot delete or rename in explorer. We get the "Cannot delete file. Cannot read the source file or disk." error message.The folder is empty. I tried to delete it in a command prompt window with "rd" with I get the "The system cannot find the file specified." error message. I have a legal OEM version of Windows Server 2003 disk and the software is installed on an active machine currently. I am looking to get a newer server and wanted to make sure I don't violate and agreements. Is it OK for me to Install the OS on the new server when I get it If I take the old server out of production and never use it again? I would contact MS about the activation and explain the situation but before I get on the phone and wait on hold forever I thought I would ask here first.

Hi, I'm starting to think that Firefox3, is causing my Windows Media Player to stop working, the mp3 still shows as playing, but no sound, even if I restart WMP. Happened with version 9 also, currently using version 11. When the sound stops, Windows also becomes really unresponsive, until I close WMP. Task Manager shows WMP using 98% of the cpu at times. I think its related to FF because, right at the exact same time as I closed a tab in FF, the sound stopped. Also noticed before, opening new tabs has caused WMP to stop playing, at the exact time of opening a blank tab. Even just opening FF has caused WMP to stop playing. If I dont open FF, all is fine. …

I have a problem in that I cannot copy and paste between machines and also between sever and and machines in my network. Server and the clients can see each other with no problem and can ping , but when I try to copy a file from one machine and paste to another directory in another client or server, it tells me "Access denied". I don't know where to go to uncheck any restrictions. BTW, I am running Win2k3 Sm. Bus. Server. Would appreciate all help.
