I am running XP Pro on the server of a network with 8 users. Recently I have been getting the following message "Microsoft windows network - No more connections can be made to this computer because there are already as many connections as the computer can accept" The message comes up when the eight computer tries to access the server drive. If I reboot the service then all computers can get in. Is there some settings that I can change on my xp to allow more connections? Thanks, Wing31

MY COMMENT: This is ridiculous... MS CLAIMED Vista had better power saving features than XP.. but of course we all knew this was a BIG FAT LIE, and now they come out and make a vista battery saver utility.. so you have a utility to stop the hog from pigging around. I wonder what they will do with all the DISK thrashing that crapista.. err.. I mean vista causes... perhaps turn off your hard disk for good! lol Vista is soooo stupid LOL! Net Framework Initialization Error
by Guest ms- 9 replies

Awhile ago, when Net. 1.1 started to be used for utility installs, I installed Net. 1.1. I no longer use Net-required utilities. This AM, I uninstalled Net 1.1. I used Revo Uninstaller, removed leftover debris from registry. On reboot, now I see a screen: Net Framework Initialization Error, to resolve this install Net.1.1... The screen requires Cancel to continue to load windows. I will not reinstall Net, the invasive nature of Net utilities is why I avoid them. How to remove the screen? It apparently did not uninstall cleanly and Revo did not remove all of it. ms

Licensing Questions
by Guest Hemmy- 3 replies

Hi; Either Terminal Server licensing can be a little confusing or I'm not as bright as I think I am (no comments necessary). Q. Is it correct to say that that a Win2003 TS can either be in USER or DEVICE cal licensing mode? Q. If I use USER cals, that means a single user can logon to the TS from any machine (office PC, home PC, laptop, etc) and only consume one cal? Q. If I use USER cals, and a user logins in 2 times concurrently, I assume that consumes TWO cals? Q. Can DEVICE cals be converted to USER cals? Q. Scenario: A user has a machine with dual monitors and has TWO TS sessions going (one on each monitor). Does that consume 2 USER …

The sounds like the little bells that go off whenever you unplug or plug a usb device into a laptop, ~when you empty recycling bin ~adjust the volume(replaced with a sharp beep, the kind that goes off when your notebook is losing power.) Normal sounds from videos and music are fine, it's just the windows sounds don't play or work.. i've used some anti-spyware and registary fixers, maybe thats the problem., i just want to know how to fix it.

Hello, I recently purchased a Linksys wireless router to have a wireless network in my house. with that I'm wondering, do I need a software firewall like Comodo or ZoneAlarm anymore? I thought that I had heard that there is no need for those if I have a "hard" router. Thanks in advance.

problems with re-set calendar, (pleh ! ! !)
by Guest kraine- 14 replies

Just bought this clunker laptop so my mom can run her nutrition program on it. THe program links to the calendar, and keeps track of what you eat every day. Unfortunately, the calendar for the system is messed up, and I don't have any discs or anything to fix it. I reset the date, then the next time I turn on the computer, it's a different time, and day. My guess is I have to download something (the clunker only has CD capability, no internet, no usb). Can anyone help me? I'd like to get this mailed out to my mom soon. Many many thanks, Kathy

XP freezes with switch users
by Guest harold- 1 reply

I have XP media center. Suddenly, about three months ago, I could not use the "switch user". My wife and I both have administrative privileges. If we use the "switch user", the computer freezes requiring a manual shutdown. If we log off first, then the other person can log on. I have checked the "run/services.msc and placed the "terminal services" and "fast switch user" on automatic, and have appropriately checked the user accounts "switch user" on the control panel.

CI files growing and reducing C drive disk space
by Guest lmhaggblom@besafeandfree.org- 1 reply

On Monday, 09/29/08, my Windows Server 2003 system told me I was low on system resources, and when I checked, I only had 700 MB of 12 GB left of free disk space when I should of had 2.27 GB free space. The problem was the "CIfiles" folder, which held a 500 MB .ci file. The number in the file name was also on three other files, but they were small. The windows.edb file was 1GB. So, we stopped the Windows Search service, deleted all four "CIfiles" folder files with the filename of the 500 MB, and emptied the recycle bin. Then, the windows.edb file shrunk and the disk space increased back to 2.27 GB free space. We restarted the Windows Search service, and this…

No error msg, no window pops up, etc. I also tried to download the file from the Internet and run it and same happens. If I take same CD to another/other PC, it runs just fine. Someone said it could be a problem with Windows Installer. Any help in solving this problem will be greatly appreciated. KenP

Problem with DVD/CD drive and sound card.
by Guest SoDakRah- 2 replies

A couple weeks ago my computer simply stopped working. OfficeXP was gone and IE7 would not open. I reinstalled WindowsXP Pro and OfficeXP as well as IE7 and got things working again. Now the CD drive will not work. You insert a game CD and the game appears to boot up without selecting the shortcut but if you try to play you are prompted to insert the CD. Also there is no sound coming out of the external speakers. I have run AVG virus scan repeatedly for these two weeks even in safe mode and find nothing. Any ideas?

Windows Updates Fail After SP3 Update
by Guest WJB- 6 replies

Hi, I updated Windows XP Pro to SP3 and now none of the Windows updates (or upgrade from IE6 to IE7 either) will run successfully. All updates fail almost immediately. I was actually rebuilding my laptop and after installing WinXP Pro with SP2, I decided to first upgrade to SP3 prior to installing any other software. So my question is: How reliable is SP3 and should I bactrack and rebuild again, but stay with SP2? I have a bunch of other problems since the SP3 upgrade, one of which is posted in this group as well. Thanks

All of a sudden, we are unable to RDP to a Windows 2003 Server. It could possible be a windows update that caused the issue but not sure which one. I have run Wireshark to make sure that tcp port 3389 traffic is hitting the server and it is. On the client it says unable to connect to RDP. Short of rebuilding the server are there any options or troubleshooting steps i should take? Windows Server 2003 SP2. Firewall is off completely. Thanks

Youâ?Tll be hearing more about Windows 7 later this month, especially if youâ?Tre attending ..." Does anyone know how to get rid of those odd "â?T" text characters?
