Can't Copy Text from Browser to Word Documents
by Guest JCO- 4 replies

Using XP Pro SP3 and Office 2003 Professional Having issues on websites where I can't copy text from the browser to a Word Document. When I do this, the document freezes permanently. Not sure if this happens all websites. I believe, as in the link below, that the website is protected from user's copying the text. Link: http://wiki.monticello.org/mediawiki/index.php/Sale_to_Library_of_Congress If I'm correct, is there a work around....other than straight typing of everything? I'm wondering if a feature in Word can be turned off ... such as turning off an "Embedded Objects". I tried a Word Forum, but I get no responses. Thanks in advance for your an…

The Final End of Grey vs. Murphy
by Guest Leonard Grey- 11 replies

This is the real, actual Leonard Grey. To everyone: For the last few days, you have had to endure an endless back-and-forth between myself and Nick/Mick/Mike Murphy, who has been impersonating me. Murphy has been posting to these newsgroups in my name. These phony posts have been, at best, ridiculous and, at worst, revolting. His goal is to make me look bad. I am receiving this treatment for coming to the defense of a regular here whose ethnic background was being cruelly insulted by Murphy. I have been posting to these newsgroups for some time now. (I do not normally post to the windowsxp.general group, and I won't any longer after this post.) Th…

....XP Home ed. SP3 I have 2 printers - Epson C82 and R300. Recently, I'm occasionally getting 2 system tray icons for the R300 i.e. 3 icons for two printers ! HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run seems to contain the "normal" two entries, for the two printers. HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run contained a key similar to that (below), for the R300, and I deleted it. C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\E_S10IC2.EXE /P23 "EPSON Stylus C82 Series" /O6 "USB002" /M "Stylus C82" C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\E_S4I0F2.EXE /P30 "EPSON Stylus Photo R300 Series" /O6 "USB001" /M "Stylus Photo R300" ....…

My 2-yr old HP laptop has a blurred and incorrect color (greenish) screen from time to time. It seems when I boot up the Windows, it works fine but after an hour or so the problem appears. If I switch off and use it next day, it works fine but repeat the problem after 1 hour. Can someone give me a guidance if the issue comes from hardware or software before I send to repair centre. I have an old Quantum Go120A laptop hard drive that I want to install in a 2.5" external case and hook up to my desktop to copy off all the old data and then wipe clean. Device Manager recognizes and correctly identifies the hard drive, but unfortunately it doesn't show up in My Computer, Explorer or Disk Management. Further, the "Device Status" box on its property sheet in Device Manager says "This device is working properly." How can I get my system to recognize this drive so I can access the data one last time?

Cannot create large files on USB drive
by Guest Bill Smith- 2 replies

We are using a windows sbs 2003 server. We are backing up to multiple external usb drives that we rotate in and out. YES, the usb drives are formatted with NTFS. There are approx 400GB of free space on each drive. We are using Nova Backup to accomplish the backups. We are backing up approx 40gb. The issue we are having is that when Nova does the backup, it creates several smaller files opposed to just one large backup file. The files are approx 4gb each so I initially thought the external drives were formatted in FAT16 or FAT32 but that isnt the case. I cannot find any setting in Nova Backup that allows you to set it to create just one large file. …

What Causes My Display Theme to Change?
by Guest Judy- 0 replies

I have my display set to "Windows Classic" with a 'teal' background. . . . . dull, I suppose, but I like it. But about once a week or so, when I turn the computer on, the display has changed to "Windows XP". This never occurred until about 6 months ago. Can anyone tell me what's it causing this, and/or how to fix it. I know how to RESET it--but I'd like to know the way to keep it from happening at all. Thank you for your help. Judy

What extra I will get besides better DFS raising my domain to Windows 2008 functional level. Is it worth all efforts? I just need to have Distributed File System. I need to have files on 4 different servers. I want DFS to synchronize files from all this 4 servers to one, from which I will make backup. Can I do this in Windows 2003 functional level? Interesting new future in Windows 2008 DFS is Storage Reports Management. Can I have it in Windows 2003 functional level? What else can I gain moving to Windows 2008 functional level? MarcusB

Whats this mean?
by Guest Paul- 7 replies

Hi all, anyone know what this means? Timed out sending notification of target device change to window of "WndClass_CWinDrivesNotifyerHelperWindow" Event ID: 257. Double clicking on this entry tells me this: Explanation The specified program is taking too long to respond to notifications about the device. This can decrease system performance. User Action Restart the program. If this does not improve the response time, consider upgrading to a newer version of the program. Well it would be nice to KNOW what program, and device its talking about. Altho, its possible Nero maybe the culprit. I've seen a few sites, that s…

Extend Partition
by Guest John- 5 replies

Hello all: Here's the deal. We got a new server with Windows 2003 x64 Standard. It has only 12GB for the OS partition w/only 4 left. We have 200+GB of unallocated space that I would like to extend this partition onto (at least 8 more GBs). I know this can be done with diskpart but since this is the system partition, needs to be done from the command line (i.e. boot into DOS). However, to do so requires a boot disk with the proper RAID drivers (this is a Dell PowerEdge with a PERC 5/i). We do not have a floppy and I have tried creating a boot CD with the drivers slipstreamed, but that failed. My next resort was to use the Windows Automated I…

In all windows 2003 servers we have possibility to use two parallel remote desktop connection plus one console connection. (mstsc /v:XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX /console) On all our new Windows 2008 Enterprise servers we can only have one remote desktop connection, and it seems that it is the same as console connection. Should we activate some services to have the same possibilities in windows 2008? Regards MarcusB

"Device doesn't exist on the network" - Windows 95/98/NT4, NTLMv2
by Guest Mantas Mikulėnas- 0 replies

So I have two VMs in VirtualPC. (But I don't think the fact that they're VMs matters.) On both of them - Windows 98 SE and Windows 95 - I installed NTLMv2, and tried to connect to my host PC (Windows XP Pro SP3). The problem: It only worked *once*. The first time I clicked on my host PC (inside the virtual PC's "Network Neighbourhood"), it opened - it showed all the shares, I could even browse them. Then I closed the window, and it stopped working. Now every time I try to open my host PC from the virtual one, it says: [X] \\THINK is not accessible. This device does not exist on the network. BUT the host PC says that the login was successful: -----B…

We have network with 10 windows servers and 2 windows 2003 domain controlers. Domain is in Windows 2003 native mode. We want to go to Windows 2008 native mode to have such services like new DFS service etc.. What is the best and simplest way to move to Windows 2008 native mode. We will buy new hardware for some servers but the old will remain for some time. Our domain controlers are also DNS and DHCP servers and they need to ramain on the same IP number. How to start and go on with the process? MarcusB
