I have a Dell Dimension 8200 with XP SP2, with DSL connection. I have AVG antivirus free version, Comodo firewall, Spyware Blaster and Hive Cleanup. All of these have run well together and I have had no problems. Yesterday I ran Microsoft automatic updates and all went well and all updates were successful. However since that time the Security update KB956841 keeps coming up to be updated like it's in a loop or something. In fact, I just updated it before this post and now its back again! I have just installed Windows XP (in parallel to Windows 2000) and it works well with one strange exception. I open Windows Explorer with folder list on the left. When I open a folder with about 5000 files on the right side, I get the content in a couple of seconds. But when I click on the same folder on the left side everything freezes and even Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't work. But if I wait long enough (over 6-10 minutes) suddenly the task manager appears telling that Explorer is not working. I close the task manager (without killing Explorer) and after another minute finally Explorer shows the content of the folder and everything seems to be OK again! Clicking on…

I would like my windows XP box to sync it's time automaticaly. On my other XP machines always had a internet time tab on the Date and Time Dialog box (Control Panel>Date and Time) but this box does not have that tab. Is there a way to install that tab / force it to show? I have service pack 3, so I don't think I am missing any features. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Terry

My employer recently had a major outage because an SSL certificate expired. Consequently, we are now trying to get a better handle on our SSL certificates. Toward that end, we are looking for a way to centrally manage our SSL certificates. We have an environment that includes Windows 2003, Unix, Linux, and Novell servers, and a mainframe system. The user accounts are assigned to a Group along with the Computer accounts. hi, have server08 and sbs 03 in same domain with a couple of other pc's. outside of the domain but still on the internal network cant ping or get mail into exchange on the 08 box, in the domain can communicate fine with the server. have been messing with the advanced firewall all week but nothing i do makes any difference, surely it cant be that hard to allow mail in and let me ping/rdp without having to put my laptop into the domain.turning the firewall off seems to have no effect. i have read that gp manages the firewall at a higher level than inbound rules, any ideas?

Hello, Windows XP SP2 machine folder synchronization and redirection of "My Documents" to a Windows Server 2003 RC2 SP2 I have an User that has tons of Access databases (mdb & dbfs) that he cannot synchronize offline. He receives the following error message. Unable to make filename.mdb available offline on \\server\location. Files of this type cannot be made available offline. This sounds like a permissions problem, but I don't see anything wrong. Any suggestions. Thanks.

Hello! While on hold with HP, I am looking at page 7 of this document http://h71028.www7.hp.com/ERC/downloads/4AA0-8465ENW.pdf to see if an HP Color LaserJet 3600n is compatible on a 2003 TS. It shows as supported in Citrix and mentions an HP driver under the Host-based column. It does not support PCL or PS, so I cannot map it to a built-in driver. The introduction to the doc seems to indicate that it is specific to Citrix environments and it is not clear (to me) if this doc is applicable to TS **without** Citrix. Is this document specific to Citrix, or if a printer is Citrix compatible it means it is also TS 2003 compatible? I think the latter may b…

I prefer my Word 97 to any newer Word version. However, with Vista I get this error message when I print from Word 97. winword.exe-Application error The instruction at ox776d82b8 referenced memory at ox000000.... The memory could not be read. What I do now, is I copy the Word 97 file to a new version of Works, and print it there. Is there a solution, as I want to use Word 97 in Vista. By the way, I can print envelopes in Word 97?

I have two Terminal Servers (Windows 2003) one of them controlling the licences. The second server has just been added to run a specific application. I want each server to have its own licence pool as each caters for a different set of remote users within the same active directory. I cannot see how to do this. I have a 25 pack of licences for one server and a new 10 pack for the other. I do not want to simply top-up the 25 as this will inevitably lead to one group of users hogging the licences. The licencing mode is per user and one server has been in operation for 3 years. Can anyone suggest a way to ration ts cals in this way?

I have a server with several ips installed on the same interface. I am doing some many to one nat on my FW and would like to test the external address that i have assosciated with these ips. In linux i would run a ping -s "source ip" address. I only see in windows a ping -s for ipv6. Does this exist for ip4 at all in windows 2003? Thanks for the help guys.

When I try to remove Google Earth 3.0 I get the following: The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "Google Earth.msi". I don't have Google Earth.msi on my computer, so how can I get rid of this version? I can download the latest version of Google earth but when I try to run it, it says my current version is 3.0 and I need to upgrade to 4.3. So somehow I need to get rid of version 3.0.

But what happens is if I save data under that program it goes to the Administror's My Documents and not to my own. So I need to figure out how to use "Run As" but send data to my profile. The error message says that I dont' have th privillage to login remotely. On a Windows 2003 server, SP2 installed we have the Terminal Licensing Server running, setup using "Per User" CALs. Initially we started out with 25 of these until we purchased an additional 20 to get us to 45 users. Everything works fine until we reach the original 25 limit. For the longest time, booting up my system has always given me a warning popup indicating the ewgmfxd.dll could not be found. I would simply click OK and continue. I decided to investigate and did a search. The results gave me one file named ewgmfxd.dll.{a whole bunch of numbers here}. So, I simply renamed it by removing the .{842833282988489342389whatever} so it was back to its original name. I then did a virus scan on the file which indicated it was fine. So I rebooted my system hoping all would be fine and I would never see that popup warning again. No such luck. It now says something about the file not being a proper windows driver file. When trying to download and install SP3, I received a message several times along the way that certain service pack files could not be copied, and did I want to go ahead and install without them? There were several of these files that could not be copied, here's an example: -comadmin.dll ("cannot read from the source file or disk") -slbcsp.dll ("data error-cyclic redundancy check") -sqlolebb.rll ("data error-cyclic redundancy check") -wmsdmod.dll ("data error-cyclic redundancy check") At this point I aborted the installation. Should I go ahead and install without these or further files that may not be able to be copied? How important are they?
