I've come across an odd issue when trying to publish IAS in AD. I've tried three methods of doing it. 1) Via IAS MMC Snap-In. I receive the error: IAS Error: The task was not completed. You may not have sufficient privileges in the xxx.dom domain to perform this task. Please make sure that you have appropriate privileges inthe domain to perform this task or check with Network Admin. 2) Via AD Users & Computers, adding the server to the 'RAS and IAS Servers' group. I get the following error: The following Active Directory error occurred. The requested object has a non-unique identifier and cannot be retrieved. 3) Via netsh, and I receive the follo…

DCOM event id 10009.
by Guest Erik Droszcz- 13 replies

Hi! From time to time I see the following error in my System event log: DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer SERVERNAME using any of the configured protocols. What scares me is that SERVERNAME is an old Exchange 2003 server we uninstalled a long time ago (we are now running Exchange 2007). How can I see where DCOM gets SERVERNAME from? Why does it try to connect to a server uninstalled over six months ago? Regards Erik

Hi, I suspect that the IPv6 adaptors are affecting one of our clients Exchange RPC-HTTP. I have uninstalled IPv6 but the following interfaces are still being displayed: Tunnel adapter 6to4 Tunneling Pseudo-Interface Tunnel adapter Automatic Tunneling Pseudo-Interface If I run the command "netsh interface ipv6 show interface", it returns "IPv6 is not installed" Any ideas how I can force remove these interfaces? Thanks Matthew

Everything is in italics. How do I get all fonts back to normal ??
by Guest Synapse Syndrome- 11 replies

This is actually a problem I am having with Windows Server 2003, but I am sure that the solution is the same as XP. When I applied SP2 for Windows Server 2003, around this time last year, every font turned to italics - the Start Menu, context menus, all text in applications, Event Viewer, Device Manager, IIS Manager, all wizards and dialogue boxes, title bars, icons text, etc. Even the nearly all the text in websites when using IE7 or Firefox is in italics (it does not appear in italics in the rare cases where the CSS calls for 'normal'). The only thing that is not in italics is the Command Prompt. I have been using it for a year thinking that this w…

Removable Drive Letter Mapping
by Guest John Gregory- 15 replies

Removable Drive Letter Mapping Is there a way to force the drive letter assignment for removable USB drives? (in the same manner as mapping network drives perhaps?) I frequently use two removable drives, a USB thumb drive with transfer files, and a USB hard drive for back-up purposes. I use batch files to transfer frequently used work files, and another program do perform backups, however they are dependent upon drive letter assignments to work properly.

After spending 2 days fixing vundo infection, spybot and malwarebytes helped clean it. Both give a clean bill of health but I have a little issue in MSCONFIG. There is an entry for Rundll.exe c:\windows\system32\siyipino.dll in msconfig. When I try to untick it and save settings in msconfig I get access denied must be a member of administrator when I am member of administrator. I searched google and there are posts about HP software and Mcafee. I dont have HP software, I have mcafee which was uninstalled but didn't make a difference. I still cannot change settings in msconfig... ANY IDEAS ? Ccleaner lets me delete entries in 'start up' but 30 secon…

logon.cmd and persistent:yes problem

Hi A 2003 server std. R2 AD and domain laptops login.cmd problem. In this envinroment they have a login script where server shares are mapped and the persistent seem to be setup to be yes. Actually at the logon.cmd there is nothing related for persistant but since the shares are listed also offline I believe that in that system the default behaviour is that persistent is yes. Now when those laptops are at home and connected to Internet (usually using 3G connection) the user can of couse see the list of server's shares. But if he/she cliks any shares the My Computer will freeze over a minute. The laptop is obviously seeking for those shares. We need tho…

by Guest Tony- 4 replies

So I re-installed xp after my brother got a very bad worm from downloading bad programs. The problem is that Xp hardly has any features. I cant even enter into stand by mode. My priority is to get the internet up and running so I can download the latest drivers and updates. But I cant get xp to detect any wireless networks. It has a built in wireless network card. but it isn't detecting anything. I even hoked up my linksys usb adaptor with the linksys drivers ad software. And the system still won't pick up on any available networks. There are at least 2 free wireless networks that are always running in my neighborhood. My labtop picks up these networks fine. But…

Folder Access Restriction
by Guest Shrikant- 6 replies

Folder Guard I want to restrict access to my folders. I am using stand alone PC with Windows XP Professional and with different users. When I right click on any folder ->Properties->Sharing, I see the option of “to make this folder and sub-folders private so that only you have access to it” with a check box of “make this folder private”. Unfortunately, this check box is greyed out and therefore not available. It also has a tick mark in it. All my folders are accessible to all the users (which I do not want). I do not want to store my folders on C Drive for better space management. Please guide. -- Shrikant

My daughter's laptop has been running a bit slow based on similar machines I have. I've noticed constant and excessive (this term is relative) disk I/O against the lsass.exe process in the task manager. I do not feel my system is infected with any virus since AVG, Avast, Norton, and Trend all report nothing. Any suggestions? WinXP Pro SP3 ~alan
