No Undo (CTRL+Z) option, permanently greyed out
by Guest eurotech- 5 replies

Hello, I just noticed this problem when I sent a file to the Recycle Bin, and then decided that I needed it. The usual method I use is to right click the desktop and then select UNDO. Unfortunately, the UNDO command never appears in the right click context menu. Clicking on EDIT in the menu bar reveals that UNDO (CTRL+Z) is greyed out. Using the keyboard shortcut CTRL+Z produces no results. It doesn't matter if I delete a file, move a file, or rename a file the UNDO menu never appears in the right click context menu nor does the UNDO command under the EDIT menu ever become activated. It seems the UNDO option is permanently disabled. Is there a re…

When you click on a link or type in a password and a new window opens is there a way to control the size of that window. Most of the time it is small and I would make them full size. Or is that something that can not be controlled? Sammy

Windows and Genuine Update
by Guest Dan- 4 replies

I just noticied that you now need to have Windows XP and/or Windows Vista to use Genuine check for downloads and this never used to be a problem. Heck, I even have Genuine check with my Windows 98 Second Edition but it is apparently no longer good enough and that goes for Windows 2000 Professional also which still gets security updates by Microsoft. I use Office XP Professional in 98 Second Edition and just manually update it because the office update tool will not work in 98 Second Edition. http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/AutomaticUpdates.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=e0175119-9a5b-44c3-b1de-9b2a9aa6cff6&Error=6&sGuid=73b74a3f-94fd-…

IE 7 and saving images
by Guest AliceZ- 3 replies

When I had IE 6 and I would move the cursor over an image, I would be asked if I wanted to save that image (not sure of wording). I do not notice that feature in IE 7. Is it part of IE 7 (if yes, how do I activate it), or is it not a part of IE 7? (I just donwloaded IE 7 and now I see MS is coming out with IE 8. Wow, I am just getting accustomed to IE 7 and now IE 8 in getting ready to come out.)

I was told by someone that a retail pack of "Terminal Services Client Access Licenses For Microsoft Windows Server 2008" is able to be installed on a Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server. I was doubtful, but tried installing them anyway. When doing so, I receive an "Invalid Code" error. I bet the guy a case of beer that it couldn't be done. Who gets the beer?

Win2003 server script error: mapping network drives
by Guest samhale- 0 replies
I'm the Tech Director at a school and we use Windows 2003 Server to pass scripts to clients on login depending on user and location. Everything worked well for a year with clients but this year our 4th grade class has been having sporadic problems. The general 'share' folder that all users have always works for these users, but around 20% of the time their individual user mapped-drive does not show up. It is not dependent on machine or user but seems random. Most times the user can logout and log back in and it maps their network drive properly. I'm no script expert (the one we use was created by a consultant) but I would appreciate any help or suggestions that a…

IE 8 and problem viewing websites that use .php
by Guest Krush- 5 replies

First time poster, so not sure where this goes. A couple of problems to get advice on what to do. First, after installing IE 8 beta, it hangs if it using the java application. If you open several browsers that use java on it's web pages, it hangs up and you can't close it. Only way for me to close it, is to use task manager and chose end application. Question is, is there a fix for this not to happen? Second question is, some websites use .PHP on them. I thought maybe it had to do with IE 8 beta causing the problem. But i also notice the same problem in firefox, but not as bad as using IE. Could the problem be tied to the service pack 3 that was rele…

Unattended of XP Pro

I would like to perform unattended installation of XP. My question is that: Do I copy the WINNT.SIF onto I386 folder if I want to perform unattended with cd rather than floppy? Do I need to copy anything else apart from WINNT.SIF? How about unattended.txt file? Do I need to insert that too? I read on some forums that I need to copy WINNT.bat file onto I386 folder? is that case? thanks.

Every dialog, prompt, button is illegible
by Guest Charles Lavin- 3 replies

Hi -- I have a Windows XP Pro SP3 box that recently installed some automatic updates, and now I can't get a legible screen out of it. When the computer boots, it displays the Windows XP splash screen just fine. The subsequent dialog it displays with the status of the startup is not. For starters, it's a fraction of the width it's supposed to be. The Windows XP graphic across the top of the dialog displays OK, except that it's cropped after the "Wi" in "Windows". All the status messages displayed below show up in a scrunched, compressed type that's impossible to read. The login dialog has the same problem. The dialog is a fraction of the width it's s…

Script editor appearing in favourite website
by Guest chrissyd- 2 replies

Hi, I'm looking for advice on an issue that's just started happening. I frequently use the moneysupermarket.com website without problems but, earlier on, after I'd gone to this site's forum page, I had an error message saying that these scripts weren't supported and asking me if I wanted to debug. I clicked yes and went through a few more screens that ended in a page with what looked like programme language. When I tried to close, it asked if I was sure that I wanted to stop debugging. I closed the internet browser before clicking 'yes' to close the debug session. When I logged into the website again, the same thing happened. I'm concerned that this might …

chkdsk continues to find errors
by Guest Juerg Reimann- 3 replies

I ran into a mystery with chkdsk that I could verify with a dozen different Windows XP systems. Chkdsk seems to always find some errors on the C: drive that need to be fixed with the /F switch while rebooting. During the reboot chkdsk usually finds nothing but as soon as the system is up and chkdsk is run against die C: drive again, the game starts from new. I bet if someone tries this on a system with all the recent updates, it will result in the same. But I know it used not to be so, usually if chkdsk would find errors, after repair it should report a clean file system. Does anybody know why chkdsk all over sudden behaves like this? Thanks, Juer…

I just noticed this.... in Network Connections, if you change the view to Details, there's a column titled "Phone # or Host Address". There isn't an IP address shown in that column for the installed NIC. Where would one edit that information, to put the IP address in there? I've looked everywhere and didn't it. And Google came up empty. TIA

Hi All I know this might sound odd, but a computer club to which I belong have been offered new laptops with vista. This is great, unfortunately most members have systems with XP. As they are all beginners and in their mature years this can be very confusing. They can obtain a very cheap XP Pro upgrade through Donortec. Can they use this on Vista?
