Very slow scrolling in explorer - 30k+ .htm files
by Guest TMCO Admin- 2 replies

Hello all, I have a problem with opening files in Front Page, but it seems to be connected to Explorer. When opeing a network directory with 30k+ .htm files, scrolling thru the directory is page-at-a-time, and each page takes 10-15 seconds to "find". The file names show up immediately, as well as all the details, but the icons are the standard unknown file type icon for 10-15 seconds, then turns into the correct icon for the file association, and you can scroll to the next page. Hoping someone can suggest something to cure this. I'm running mix of SP2 and SP3 machines, not all have Front Page loaded, all act the same. A software vendor had Vist…

by Guest SteveDB- 2 replies

Hello and Greetings, I'm having a particularly interesting problem installing SP3. The installation seems to go well until receiving a "Copy Error" message. It reads as follows: "An error occurred while copying file mmcfxcr.dll. Cannot copy file to destination directory. Click Retry to retry the operation or clock Cancel to" That it for the first message. I am allowed to browse for the file and can see it in the temp installation directory created during the install of SP3. It will not however allow me to get past the error. I extracted the file using the /x parameter, copied to the c:\windows\system32 directory manually and tried to use regsvr32 to re…

Windows 2003 R2 Installation
by Guest Jesus- 2 replies

Hi all, I have a question to ask of you experts. I have Windows 2003 R2 CDs. Once you install Windows from scratch and you log into the machine for the first time the system will ask you to insert the 2nd CD from this install. If I disregard this message and continue on my marry way will there be issues with my install later due to the fact that this second CD was not inserted? Not related to R2 components. I'm wondering if there are essential files that are in CD2 that are necessary for Windows to operate properly. I know the 2nd CD from what many people have been saying is not needed and if you install Windows without it is like installing the old ve…

I have been trying to install this update for a couple of weeks...and it seems to install, but then gives me a message that it failed to install. I have never gotten a error number nor any reason for why it won't install. Today I went to this page: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8f588f7e-c4ed-42a0-b157-54b1eda60474&DisplayLang=en and tried to download it here. I followed instructions and it seemed to install, BUT, I got the error message (attached) this time. I haven't a clue what this means...except that I'm missing something! I hope it's nothing totally serious. Hope I've asked this question in the correct group.....my first …

master browser question
by Guest Tester- 2 replies

Hi there, Is it possible to make 2 machines master browsers for a remote subnet or it would cause some sort of conflict? I mean to set the settings isdomainmaster to true and maintainserverlist to yes in registry? My goal is to prevent another machine to become master browser which I already set the above settings to "No" and to have a backup of the master browser if the other one is not powered up for that remote subnet. Thank you, T

I am having a terrible time with my win. xp home edition right now. It started a couple of days ago, all of a sudden the task bar, icons on the desktop, and start menu disappeared. I had been working in the task manager, deleting some processes... I was doing as the Sims 2 Holiday Edition manual said, as it also said everything would return to normal after i restarted my computer. well since then, one of 2 things have been happening. Either everything flashes [appears for like 15 secs then disappears for couple secs, comes back, disppears, comes back....] or all i have is the desktop wall paper. I have been trying to fix this for a couple of days an…

I rebooted Microsoft Windowsxp Professional 2000 using the CD. Unfortunatly I didnt know to save data for my drivers, and upon restart after resetting the basics my pc is slugish. Moving a window drags across the screen, scrolling down an internet page is enough to give you a headach. I went under Device Manager and found the following did not register and could not be updated. Multimedia Audio Controller, PCI Bride Device, SM Bus Controller, Video Controller, Video Controller (VGA Compatible). Im trying to find a way to update these so they can work. -- Bluex25 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bluex25's Profile: htt…

Strange networking problem...

In our office, one of the users (who brings in own laptop) cannot connect to network. I can connect to same connection & can connect just fine. Cable tester shows no problems, either. I can take his laptop & connect directly into switch & it connects just fine. I had a new cable run & all worked fine. He has moved to a new office & it's starting all over! Any reason why mine, or any other computers can connect fine, but his wouldn't? Thanks- -- Mr. Simpson, there are thousands of people like you with no discernable talent. Windows 2003 crashing when enabling /3GB
by Guest Massimo- 7 replies

I've been working a cluster of two Windows 2003 Enterprise SP2 systems, which run SQL Server and are also domain controllers for a local domain (it's an hosted environment, so only two servers could be fitted there). The two servers have each 18 GB of memory, but run the x86 Windows version. The /PAE switch is enabled on those systems, in order to take advantage of all that memory; today, we tried enabling the /3GB switch too, to give SQL Server some extra memory... but then the systems started behaving erratically, taking hours (literally!) to start up, even more time to log on, showing plenty of errors in the event log about almost everything crashing…

I am installing a Windows 2003 std server on a dell 2950 system. Brand New from Dell, and I am using their software to load. Everything went fine with the install and the software loaded without incident. I patched the system fully with MS patches. Everything was great until I went to configure the server for AD as a member server on a domain with 2003 std (R1). First thing that happend is this release is R2 and the other releases on the other two servers are R1 release that is fully patched. The first thing it errored out was I got a message stating that the Schema wasn't compatable between the this version R2 and the other R1 and that I had to run…

In the Event log I see this error The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000c2 (0x00000007, 0x0000121a, 0xf56d3867, 0xc0000120). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP. Attached is a debug from the memory.dmp file everything is pointing to the fact that the ntkrpamp.exe is the problem and I have read that it may be faulty memory or there may be a hot fix for dropped packets none the less the server reboots and will run fine for 4 or 5 days then it will re-boot with the same error. I would like to find out what is causing the error so that I can get it fixed. This is a 2003 R2 Enterprise sp2 server fully patched and runn…

What do you use for burning?
by Guest Mark G.- 13 replies

Running XP Pro and have been using Nero for a while, but recently, it seems to have issues and it has always been more complicated than my needs dictate. I know you can burn to DVD and CD from within the OS, but I do not really like that approach. Therefore I was hoping some of you could let me/us know what you use to burn to DVD's and CD's with? Whether it be freeware or low cost is fine. Just trying to see what others use that is reliable, easy to use, and gets the job done without a bunch of buttons or confusion and without errors. Thanks for the input!

I have WinXPsp3 and just downloaded/installed IE 7. I notice when I open IE 7 and my (google) homepage shows, I can then go to Tools and Windows update to check for any critical updates. However, after I have checked and downloaded the updates, I click the back (blue)arrow (uppoer left corner of screen) and expect to be allowed to go back to my Google homepage. However, I can't get back to my google homepage. I have to close the Windows update page and then open IE 7 again so I can get my google homepage. If I go to other sites while using google (in IE7), I can always click the back arrow and be returned to the google page. Why am I not allowed to do it …
