After several problems, I reformatted my HD and installed XP Pro, then installed (after download from Microsoft) SP3 and all other Windows Updates. Then, I reinstalled my apps. Things *seemed* OK. However, I wanted details on my video card and clicked on Start/ Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information; absolutely nothing happened. I then clicked on Start/Help and Support, and got a message that "Windows cannot open Help and Support because a system service is not running. To fix this problem, start the service named 'Help and Support'." However, when I tried Start / Run / Services.msc and looked at the list, I found *no* service beginning with "Help"…

My Movie maker does not work anymore. I have tried to find a way of downloading a new version, but it is not possible, neither directly nor through SP2. What do I do to either repair the current version on my computer or download another version? Please help me ASAP. -- MS

I have been running my trusty old 21" Sony Trinitron Multiscan G500 for the last 6-7 years. When it came out, it was very high end and even at today's standards, it does well. But this monitor is HUGE! About 100 pounds to boot. Anyhow, got a couple of free monitors from work as they were upgraded. One 19" and one 21". Both LCD's. Would like to go to LCD's now and will run the 19" between 2 computers with a KVM switch. Anyhow, I was double checking the specs between my old Trinitron against the two newer Viewsonic LCD's and while I know they are different technology, it seems that maybe my Trinitron may still out perform the larger Viewsonic that was going …

I can't seem to find a .NET group but may have missed it somehow. If there is one, plz advise according and I'll post to there. I suspected the >net Framework 2.0 installation was not working so I tried to download and reinstall. I prior to uninstalling existing and then after uninstalling existing. Both times I rec'd the following err msg: Setup cannot continue because this version of the .NET Framework is incompatible with a previously installed one. I have file called kahouquorez.exe I have checked everywhere online, spybot, windows defender, ad aware, spysweeper, Mcaffee Norton, Ca security, hijackthis, cannot find any details about this exe, cannot delete, change name, Has anyone come across this exe file any solutions. Hello. I want to change the colour of the compressed file folders from the default blue to something which is compatible with the window colour I want to use for my theme. The default blue is unreadable with the window colour I want to use. How can I do this (without changing each one individually)?

My Lenovo T61 system stops working completely and randomly. The external mouse, keyboard, internal keyboard, track point and track pad all stop functioning. I have to power down using the power button which is the only button on the machine that continues to work. Anyone having this issue that has a suggestion would be appreciated.

Is there a shortcut to enter password on Welcome Screen and/or to Unlock Computer (to bring on the screen to enter password)? If so, please respond. I know a person with only one hand that can use this information. Many thanks.

I am puzzled as to the operation of the configuration utility in XP Pro. When I use it, it appears to offer a range of dialogues for changing system settings, but whenever I change any, it just opens next time, with a message that I should go back to a 'normal' start up. What is the point of having a utility with the settings all in one convenient place, and then making it so that (apparently) changes can only be made on a temporary basis? Is this the way it is meant to work, or am I missing something? Cheers, S

Ok. Here is what happened first of all: I was doing a defrag on my comp.. it was at 37%, I decided to see if this Sonic RecordNow! was the program I needed to use to burn a DVD, so I clicked it to open it and a blue screen with a bunch of white words on it popped up and then shut my computer down. I turned it back on.. it got to the screen where I enter my password.. I entered it. It then acted as if it was going to load windows and I seen my desktop background image but then it would go right back to the password screen.. and no matter how many times I entered my password it would keep doing that. I have been having problems with my computer suddenly stopping responding, or freezing. Ultimately I have to reboot. The error message that is generated upon restart is "STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER". I have followed all of the action dictated in the associated KB article, including replacing my video card. Nothing seems to cure the problem. So I am bringing my problem to the group to see if someone has cured this malady before.

I have a folder on my desktop that just had two pictures in it, that once no longer needed, I deleted. However, whenever I restart, the folder with pictures inside reappears! I've moved them to other folders, and again - it reappears after a restart. I even deleted the folder with a supposed 'forever eraser' program that supposedly overwrites the data a thousand billion times - but, yes, you guessed it - it still reappears after a restart. I have to format my wife's hard drive on her laptop and then re-install Windows XP Professional. I have her OEM disk but she has miss placed the package with the product code. Is there someplace I can look on her laptopfor this information before I re-format her hard drive so that I can easily reinstall XP?

We have an old laptop that is currently running XP Pro (VERY slowly), that we we intend to take out of service. We intend to use the OS in another much newer laptop that can easily handle the operating system. We would like to avoid activation problems of course, and need to know how do we transfer XP licence from the old laptop to the new laptop. Appreciate any advise that will make this go smoothly. I went to defrag myt HD after after installing & then uninstalling Norton Ghost 14.0. It came up with an error that it coulkd not defrag it. I am running XP Pro. Any help is certainly appreciated. My defragger will never defrag my Outlook .pst files completely...but there is this new error (something I have never seen) called VProSvc.exe. Any help is certainly appreciated. Of late, Windows Explorer often takes ages to open up on a Windows XP Pro SP2 notebook. And the Dr Watson bugger comes up and the shell restarts. All updates installed, works perfectly otherwise. Also, one gets the ~another process is accessing the file~ error very often when deleting files. Unlocker takes care of that pretty effectively though. Don't now if related - Windows also takes ages to shut down when the explorer issue occurs - no end-process messages though.. No other error messages. Clear page-file at shut-down is disabled. CHKDSK /F and SFC /scannow run without effect. We would appreciate any insights into what to look for. Regards and TIA. Alpha …

When I use the bluetooth headset, I find that my system volume has no effect on the output volume. The output volume seems to be totally under the control of the application, eg Windows Media Player, Winamp. Is there any way I can configure the PC so that I can still use my system volume with bluetooth headset ? Thanks in advanced.

I have never read so many posts and still not be sure of the correct answer. 1. If I have a server 2003 installed before R2 was released, is there an "upgrade" to R2 without buying the whole new product ? 2. If I have server 2003 installed after R2 was released (have the CD2), but exited the install when asked about installing additional features from CD2, can I now make it an R2 ?
