Redirect "raw" print to different LPR/LPD system
by Guest smlunatick- 0 replies

I have an application (faxing) that captures the printing thru the standard LPR/LPD protocol. It works find when send from Linux based servers but not well with the Windows print queues. I need to redirect the "raw" data stream from a shared Windows printer (\ \PC1\prtfax) out to an IP address (\\192.168.1.1\fax) without having a Windows printer driver "formatting" the data. How can I do this?

Different IP for different users

Someone knows if on XP Professional it's possible to force that ip traffic, originated from different users contemporanely acive (fast user switch is active), has different ip addresses, maybe forcing the physical output interface even if it isn't a must. Probably it's a little strange request and I'm not pretty sure that it is really possible (pheraphs in theory...) but I thinked to ask to someone with better knowledge than me before to surrender to evidence. Thanks. Best Regards, Simone Navari

On a client (xp sp2), I set a server(w2003 sbs) folder (something like \\sbs2003\custdocs) as available offline. I've left default options (synch at login and shutdown) and actually the files are synchronized correctly. The issue is that the synchronization form appears two times: - immediatly after login - again after login scripts are executed and desktop icons appear Is it correct? tnx ago

CTMELODY wave file volume level
by Guest Ed Wood- 7 replies
For years, going all the way back to Windows 3.1 (I am now running Windows XP Pro SP3), we have lived with the loud volume of the CTMELODY wave file that plays when Windows Starts. After Windows is up and running, the volume controls take over, and you can adjust the volume of everything, except the volume of CTMELODY, which runs in the boot process before the volume control settings are loaded. If you decrease the volume control on your speakers so that the CTMELODY wave file is at an acceptable level, you then have to readjust the speaker volume controls (provided you have speakers with a volume control knob), so that the rest of the audio is loud en…

DHCP Question
by Guest Glenn- 2 replies

If this isn't the appropriate newsgroup, please let me know which one is. I have a Windows 2003 Server that I use as a DHCP (amongst its other roles). The computers in all departments get their IP addresses from it. I'm looking to change that a bit. I want each department to have its own pool of IP addresses available. I can setup my switches so that each is on its own VLAN. I'm just not sure how to setup the DHCP server so that the scopes are tied to a particular VLAN when the server itself only has one connection to the switch. Hopefully I'm clear here with what I want to do..if not please ask. Thanks.

I got this machine off ebay with XP already installed. When I look under "documents and settings", there seem to be a lot of user folders with basically the same set of subfolders i.e. Application Data, Cookies, Desktop, Favorites, Local Settings, My Documents, NetHood, etc. How many sets of these are there supposed to be? Right now under documents and settings there are 7 of these folders - Administrator, All Users, All users.windows, Default User, Default User.Windows, mike, Mike.Mike-(followed by some nums and letters), Mike~1~MIK Except for the last one Mike~1~MIK, they all have many of the above mentioned subfolders - Favorites, Local Settings, etc. …

My boss installed Ubuntu and XP64 on this machine (This is an EVGA nForce 4 Mainboard with AMD Athlon64 with one SATA drive) but there was no room on the working (Yes XP was working) XP partition to install anything on it. So using the install program from the CD I removed all partitions then created/formatted one NTFS partition. Upon first reboot from the install program the screen said: ntfs.sys is missing or corrupt. I ran the install again on existing file system and got: NTLDR is missing. The system cannot boot. I just completed a PC-Doctor diagnostic with no errors found. I ran the install again on the existing file system and got: Windows could not s…

Change Terminal Server licensing CALs
by Guest Thorny- 1 reply

Hi Guys, I have a customer who has an existing 2000 TS licensed with per device CALs. They have recently purchased a 2003 TS and would like to use per user CALs. The 2003 TS is setup for per user CALs, but I accidently activated and installed 2003 per device CALs. I then rang up again and activated and installed per user CALs, but the per user CALs are showing up as 'not applicable'. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to remove the per Device CALs, as they only want to use 2003 per user CALs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATES NOT INSTALLING?
by Guest its_my_dime- 3 replies

I just did a full reinstall of XP Professional and Office 2007. I downloaded and installed SP3 for XP and SP1 for Office. Now Windows/Office keeps asking me to install 35 programs that seem to have 0 content and take 0 minutes to install. It downloads those programs and then tells me the installations failed. Is it safe to assume that these updates were part of the SP's that I downloaded/installed. If so, is it safe to tell Microsoft not to ask me again about these programs? Alternatively, what is going on? Thank you.

Am considering this on xp
by Guest Mark G.- 4 replies

So I am thinking of installing and using a program that will hide and/or make my IP anonymous. With theft and whatnot these days, I am thinking I may be better of with this. Plus, I don't necessarily like all websites tracking my moves and whatnot. No, I am not paranoid by default, but just cautious. Anyhow, I am a very heavy PC user and do quite the variety of things on my PC. Will using this type of software mess with anything that I may be used to? What I mean is, some sites that I do sign into and use frequently, I want them to store my login. Also, what about XP ftp settings and the like? Anybody use these types of programs? Your thoughts? Will they i…

Windows was reloaded successfully over the weekend on our daughter's computer (Dell Dimension 4500 running Windows XP Pro), and she is now in the process of reconnecting all of her peripherals back to the computer. Everything was reconnecting just fine (HP Printer, Samsung laser, Broadband, external drives, etc). The drivers and all were loading just fine, and the hardware was all functioning properly. She had her Canon scanner plugged into the tower when she loaded the Canoscan Toolbox software (includes the drivers), but once the install was complete.... the scanner didn't work. She wasn't aware that the scanner should have remained disconnected …
