OT: UPS WorldShip on 2000 TS?
by Guest Gregg Hill- 1 reply

Hello! If UPS WorldShip is installed as a "LAN Administrative Workstation" on XP Pro and has "Remote Workstations" enabled, then other XP workstations installed as "LAN Remote Workstations" can access the LAN Admin station's UPS database. What I want to do is have the 2000 TS be one of the LAN Remote stations. While UPS claims installing it as a LAN Remote station on a terminal server is officially unsupported and has no documents on it, they told me that some people have successfully installed it as a client on a terminal server. So, is anyone out there knowledgeable about how to have the 2000 TS be one of the LAN Remote stations, and especially, …

How reduce read/write from HD
by Guest mttc- 3 replies

I realize by monitoring my HD, that the system itself and many app make a lot of access to HD. it's seem to me that this lot of access to HD for nothing is unnecessary fro system with enough RAM. take for example, why outlook express need to access all the time (even is there no activity like read email!) to Temporary Internet Directory? Or ask your self, why VMW workstation (even I not open it, just I turn on my XP) is access to AppData\VMWatere directory? Have a way to prevent this behavior? perhaps move it to RAM? I not care that kind of unnessory Data lost when I turn my PC off. Have some tip? (I use with Windows Performance tools & File Monitor,…

XP Service Pack 3 causes my Office to stop working well
by Guest Big Daddy- 6 replies

I have Office XP 2002 Service Pack 3. My automatic updates for Windows XP has recently tried to install Windows XP SP 3. But after it installs (and I reboot of course), then my Office applications don't work very well. This applies to both Word and Excel, where they take a long time to start. When I try to start one of them, it takes about a minute instead of a few seconds like it used to. I have tried installing the SP3 three separate times, each time rolling it back when it caused the problem. I know it wasn't a fluke since it did the same thing all three times. So now I have turned off my automatic updates, since the slow starting Office applications is…

how to stop spoolsv.exe creating ppr###.tmp files or deleting themafter the process closes For some reason the spoolsv.exe files is creating tmp files whenever we print via the file server. however the files are never deleted which leads to the c drive filling up over time. Anyone have any ideas on how to change this. I tried changing the spooler temp directory under printer an faxes server properties many with no luck. Adter using FileMon I was able to see that spoolsv.exe was responsible for creating the file but never deletes them. C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe

I have a dell dimension 4550 with Win XP SP2 that recently develop this problem. After playing or writing to a disk in either of my dvd or cd drives then ejecting the disk, my keyboard or mouse will not function. It seems the system locks-up. The only way I can get the system to work again is to pull the power cable and reboot. After I reboot, everything works fine until I use the drives again. And then I have the same problem. I don't know where to start troubleshooting this problem -- thanks for any help. -- A intermediate computer student

Copying large quantity of files taking forever
by Guest SwitchKat- 6 replies

Hi, I wanted to throw this question out because after losing over a week of productivity, I'm not sure where else to turn. Here's my issue. We're trying to restore a file repository for a project that has just under 2 million files. We've tried restoring from tape, copying from another Windows server and even moving from another Windows server. The problem we run into in every case is that the file copy to the new system takes off fast and we can see file transfer rates start out copying 1000's of files per second, but over time it always slows down to a crawl and we end up where we are now. We are currently transferring one file every few minutes. …

I just did an in place upgrade of 2003 Standard 64 Bit to 2008 64 Bit. On 2003 I had about 15 printer shares. After the upgrade I have zero printer shares. Is this by design or a bug? Why would an in place upgrade eat printer shares and is there any way to recover them other than to rebuild them? Thanks, Dan

Server 2008 - Installing non-TS CALs
by Guest jebtech- 4 replies

Potentially silly question, but I haven't seen this addressed. I have 250 CALs purchased. Where do I tell Server 2008 that I have these CALs? These aren't for Terminal Services, just for people on my internal network to access the server. My 2003 Server has an applet off the Control Panel, I don't see the same thing in 2008.
