Win2K3 Server Gateway settings
by Guest BBW- 1 reply

This is more of an IP settings question vs an ISA question. I have my 2K3 servers point to my ISA 2K Internet gateway and it works great. I just added another Internet ISA 2K6 gatway to the network. So on one of my servers, I added this gateway's IP in addition to the original gateway. Now the server has 2 gateway settings. I can RDP to it from the Internet through the ISA 2K gateway, but can't do it from the new ISA 2K6 gateway. If I put the 2nd gateway first in the server gateway settings, I can access it from the Internet through the ISA2K6 gateway My big question is there a way to have the server receive connections from both Internet gateways …

VPN defaults to Modem, not NIC
by Guest AlliedTechAdmin- 0 replies

I'm struggling with setting up a VPN connection on a laptop. For some reason, it wants to default to the modem and not use the nic, even when I'm specifically setting up otherwise. The wizard seems to have a mind of its own. I've also tried it within the internet connection preferences. What should I do next?

Static problem
by Guest AB- 9 replies

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for my problem, if not, perhaps someone can direct to a more appropriate one? I've been having a problem with static noise - it comes out of the speakers. If I shut off the speaker, no problem, but that's not a solution. The static occurs frequently, but I can't link it to any screen action. Sometimes I'll be in another room, not having used the computer for an hour, and I'll suddenly hear this horrible loud static noise coming from the PC. It's enough to really scare me! At times the static has been activated by changes to the screen; once or twice it followed keystrokes, sometimes it sounds like a clicking noise, bu…

Windows Vista Blue Screen Error
by Guest voujnbwuotkd@yahoo.com- 2 replies

New Windows operating system and you are now getting a Windows Vista blue screen error. You would have thought there would be no more blue screens of death, but I guess not. So, as long as there is a Windows Vista blue screen error, we will need a fix for it. The solution for a blue screen of death is a registry repair program. In less than 10 minutes, this software can have your computer up and running, and without errors. No need to worry about how to fix this or what you did, just let the software fix it for you. See, in today's world, with DSL and cable internet, people are downloading videos, pictures, screensavers, background images, software, and music. T…

64-bit Server 2008 for a Windows Printer server
by Guest Jim Helfer- 4 replies

I am buying a new machine to be our printer server, and we are considering whether to go with 32- or 64-bit 2008. The server will most likely be a HP Proliant DL 360. It will host about a dozen printers, including plotters. We have some people doing big production print jobs that take a lot of time, so I would really like to increase printing performance. Is there any advantage to going to 64 bit for this role? If so, would adding memory over 4 gig help at all? thanks Jim

Task Scheduler 0x80 on Windows 2000
by Guest Paul- 0 replies

Hi, We have problems with scheduled tasks failing on windows 2000. A reboot solves this but we cannot get to the bottom of the problem. It's Sp4 and there's no Human Interface Devices service. I've tried making jobs with the AT command, assigning runas service and bath permissions and pretty much worked through a lot of search results. It seems to be about every 7 days it fails. Can anyone shed light on this? There is nothing in event logs (app and system). Task log attached, job names aren't actually xxxxxxxxxx lol. "xxxxxxxxxx.job" (runxxxxx.bat) Started 06/10/2008 23:45:00 "xxxxxxxxx.job" (runxxxxx.bat) Finished 06/10/2008 23:49:14 Result: T…

Event ID 54 in ousb2hub: Print jobs not clearing
by Guest Terry Preuit- 7 replies

Hello, Finished print jobs are getting stuck in the printer queue, causing subsequent jobs to wait several minutes before they can be sent to the printer. This is a Windows XP SP3 machine, with a new Canon PIXMMA MX700 multifunction printer. Last Friday I had to replace the original HP OfficeJet 7410 AIO because it would no longer feed paper. Other than that, it worked great despite our torture. The owner wanted a different brand, however, so I recommended this Canon, which I installed after removing the HP software and rebooting. However, we're having two problems that seem to be related: 1) When sending a print job to the queue when it's e…

Do You Really Think You Can Neglect Your Windows Registry?
by Guest jeremiah wright- 1 reply

Windows registry, a database of files stored to decide how the operating system and the other program are going to work. The proper management of registry files gives out optimized performance of programs. Windows registry is important file system you cannot ignore to let it unmanaged. The poorly performing system, every time it has to go through the start up check option of those files which are never to be used. You need a cleaner registry to stop this nuisance being repeated over and over. Often you uninstall a program and you are some times prompted like "These are certain no longer in use; however some programs may need it. Would you like to delete. If you…

If you are reading this article then you have probably come to the point where your computer has started to show declined performances and possibly become less functional. Unfortunately this will happen to almost every PC user who uses their computer frequently and changes software and hardware over time. There really is nothing more annoying than having a problematic computer which restricts your ability to work or play games and most of the time these problems arise as a result of registry errors. The registry is a database which stores all important information regarding software and hardware related setting in the form of keys. As time passes and your pc beco…

I have a PC where the internet stopped working - Outlook, Firefox, and IE cannot see the internet. The internet is via an ADSL modem/router. This PC and two other PCs connect to this modem via network cables forming a workgroup network. The problem PC can see access the files of the other PCs on the network (so it's not a network problem) and the other Pcs can get the internet. If I move the network cable from the problem PC to my laptop. I can get the internet on my laptop. On the problem PC, temporarily turning Windows Firewall off didn't help. Thie propblem PC ran out of hard disk space at around the time the problem occurred. I freed up 500Mbytes o…

Foiled Again? XP Not Quite Recovered
by Guest Watty- 14 replies

Here's the short tale of my story. a. C-drive fails b. All contents of the c-drive are captured onto an external drive c. XP is installed on a new drive. d. unstoppable copier puts contents of external on new drive. Program Files folders and all else are replaced with the 'old' folders e. Put new c-drive into machine and boot up Supposedly the new drive should be identical to the original. True or false? In my case, it wasn't, but the desktop looked good. However, few if any apps from there would fire up. One large non-MS app fires up. Icons are missing from the tray. Folder contents seem to be in order. All Start items are available.

I need to script a forced reboot that will occur when certain conditions are meet. I tried to use "shutdown -r -f", but it would only shutdown Windows to the point where it says "Saving System Settings...", and then just it hangs there and never progresses past that point. I need a method that will actually force a reboot. Is there something else that I can try? I'm using XP Media Center SP3.
