RE: WGA Notifications Current News Please I have to cime in here after reading numerous posts on numerous newsgroups and blogs, and on Microsoft non helpful help areas,. etc etc, on the web; you get the pic. Bottom line is I;ve been trying to remove this "tool" for days now, and have tried all of the conventional methods described and known to most folks on the general and other xp groups...none have worked. I've used ones p osted here and other places, and have even found the same inefetive "solutions" on yutube; still here. What I am finding is not the same as many have described as their problems. WMI ADAP errors with DotNet 3.5 - KB951683
by Guest Kieran- 0 replies

Hi, We're experiencing symptom 3, Message 2 in the knowledge base article with some of our servers and were wondering if there's a fix that's going to be released. While the text of the KB advises its going to be in the next service pack, the fix wasn't credited as being in 3.5 SP1 as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951847. Can someone from MS please advise if it is included, but not credited otherwise we'll have to work with MS support to get the hotfix talked about in the original KB article. Cheers, Kieran

Hello, Iam trying to create a database in SQLServer by pointing the database files to a UNC location (\\bigserversnas01\sql_use\) which is a SAN. Hi, I'm experiencing a strange problem in my Windows XP (Version 2002 Service Pack 3). I have IE7 installed and it seems to be IE7 (7.0.5730.13). But I have two problems: 1. My bank account site says that I have a IE below than 5.5. When I try to type a number in an Edit Box that handles 4 digits, it moves to the next Edit Box when I type 3 didgits. 2. I try to connect to a Remote Server and my password is not acnowleged (in other micros it works). Any clue other than reinstall everything (I have 74 installed programs in it)? Thanks, Marco Castro

Cannot go into standby or hibernate - hangs
by Guest redyellowgreenblue@gmail.com- 3 replies

Hi I'm using Windows XP Home edition. I've never been able to use the Standby or Hibernate features, but thought I'd give it go a fixing it to save a bit of electricity. When I select Standby or Hibernate from the start menu, the system will begin to shut down as appopriate, then move onto the blue screen that states "Preparing to Stand By" ---- and that's as far as it gets. It never actually goes into Standby mode, and I'm forced to restart the computer. I've had a look around on Google and haven't found anyone with this problem. I assume some process is not letting the computer standby, but how can I figure out which it is?

Hello, I am hoping someone can help me. I recently purchased a PC game off of Ebay only to find out when I tried to run it I received a win.ini [iNTL] error. Now the program appears to install properly it is just when I try to run the program that I get this error. I looked on the internet for help on this error and all I have found is that it refers to an INTERNATIONAL error associated with my win.ini file. I have even tried the Windows compatibility wizard but that does not seem to help. The game I am trying to run is an older Win 95/98 program so I believe it has something to do with that but other than that I don't have a clue. It is funny b…

Unable to enter data in PHP Order Form
by Guest cmjames- 4 replies
I am starting a small home business and I have asked a developer to create an Order Form in PHP. My developer has been using both IE 6 and IE 7 to test the form and he does not have any issues. When I tried testing the form on my end in IE 7, I was unable to enter some of the fields and see the updates. I have tried re-installing IE 7 on my PC and I have cross-checked my Internet settings with my developers and I have not been able to resolve the issue. I also tried downloading Firefox and tested the Order form in that browser and it appears to be working fine. I am not sure why I am unable to do the same in IE 7. Can someone help me please? Tha…

Changing Windows XP update download target drive?
by Guest Ian Hayes- 3 replies

I have a friend who has a laptop with two hard drives: an 80MB 'C' drive and a 5MB 'D' drive. Currently there is plenty of free space on the 'C' drive and zero free space on the 'D' drive. For some reason when the Windows Update process is run it is trying to download and store files onto the 'D' drive. As there is no free space on the 'D' drive the Update process fails with an error. How and where can I change the target drive so that Windows Update uses drive 'C' instead? I've checked all the environment variables and they all point to drive C.

Sever 2008 Backup fails with Virtual Server 2005 R2
by Guest HMike- 4 replies

Full Server backup has failed every time since Virtual Server was installed. The error message received is ... The VSS writer for Virtual Server failed during the PostBackup phase, during the mounting of disk \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy71\Users\Public\Documents\Shared Virtual Machines\Win2k3VPC\Win2k3VPC.vhd for virtual machine Win2k3VPC. The disk was a foreign/offline disk and the writer failed to make it Online, in order to access volumes on the disk. I do not beleive the disk is foreign (standard fixed size VHD) and definitely not offline. If I take the VM offline backup will work OK. However I would prefer for the VM to rema…

Recently I got the "blue screen of death" and since then, I lost my background tab and my screen saver tab and cannot change either one. I purchased the windows live one care package and that didn't help to fix this problem. How do I find out if they have been erased? Or are they just hidden? Is there a way to reload them? Or would I have to take my comp to a technician and have them reload windows. thanks

shift-delete not working the _first_ time
by Guest J. P. Gilliver (John)- 23 replies

I usually delete files (folders too) with shift-delete rather than delete; you know, so it says "are you sure you want to permanently delete" rather than "are you sure you want to ... recycle bin" (and with a different icon). Thing is, nearly always, it doesn't work first time: it usually comes up with the recycle bin prompt. To which I say no, then shift-delete again, and it comes up with the right one. It's only on this one machine, and I'm pretty certain it _isn't_ a dodgy shift key - my fingers move very little between the first attempt that fails and the second that succeeds. Any idea what's causing it? (I know I could change it - I know the…

Downloaded files -- why does their size depend on the computer?

Each day I download the identical mp4 video file with program Miro.exe to a laptop and to a desktop PC. On the desktop PC the file size is 441 MB. On the laptop the "same" file is 115 MB. Both PCs are running Windows XP. Desktop=XP-Pro, Laptop=XP-Home. The difference in file size is consistent day to day. What might explain the difference in size? Stan Hilliard
