Accessing a USB Drive
by Guest Tom D- 3 replies

I have a couple USB hard drives and have not had this issue before. All of my drives with the exception of 1 drive works fine. My problem drive is recognized by the system and displays a drive letter in windows explorer but it is blue in color as opposed to black like the other drives. When I try to access the drive it shows no files. I know there are files on the drive because I have copied files to the drive and when I look at the properties it shows that there are about 50GB of data on the drive but I cannot see or access the data. I use this drive as a place to back up data files. This hasn't been an issue in the past and was trying to figure our i…

All, I've been using Veritas (now Symantec) Backup Exec for many years now and frankly I've had enough of the complexity and error proneness of this software. I'm looking for suggestions on a replacement. Environment. Multiple Windows 2003 servers Exchange 2003 (full DB and Mailbox lever backups) SQL 2K and 2K5 I need reliable Open File backup preferably through VSS Backups are done to disk nightly and to tape weekly. I've downloaded an eval of CA ARCServer and I'm looking for other suggestions. TIA Rob

Screen Saver, Power Settings, DVD player (XP Media Center)
by Guest Westeban- 2 replies

My Screen Saver doesn't work, nor will the monitor turn off at the intervals I've set. I've examined the settings many times to make sure they don't conflict, and all is as it should be. I had this problem once before, and an HP Rep guided me to a place on Microsoft where I downloaded something to repair this. I've searched, but can't find it again without assistance. Thanks!

I've Windows XP Pro & Windows Server 2003 installed on dual boot system. I only have one hard disk with partitions. I know that formatting the partition where Server is installed, is the only way to get rid of it. My question is, do I still have registry values for Win Server 2003 left behind?

logon problem
by Guest modalit@hotmail.com- 1 reply

Hi, I have found this forum in desperation, would be grateful for any advice. We have a network with 4x terminal servers serving up to around 20 users each. We have a problem when users log on to terminal sessions, where after a user provides user/password and appears to authenticate, the blue background (that I take to be the first stage of drawing the desktop) appears but the session does not progress further, no taskbar, no desktop icons, just the pointer. Nothing works, and the only way we have found to rectify the problem is for an admin to reset the session through terminal services manager. This problem appears to happen randomly - it can affect an…

I want "Multiple" monitor for both 1 and 2
by Guest childofthe1980s- 1 reply

Hello: In the Display settings in Windows XP Control Panel, the drop-down list for monitor 1 and 2 read "(Multiple)". Now, only 1 says "(Mulitple)". #2 says "Plug and Play". I want them both to say "(Multiple)" in the drop-down list. I wish that I had never played with these settings, and I cannot remember how to switch them back. I don't care about those two checkboxes at the bottom. I just want each of the two selections in the drop-down to red "(Multiple)" ,like it was in the beginning. Would rebooting help? If not, how do I fix this? Thanks! childofthe1980s

I have a desktop computer that has Windows XP Professional isatlled on it. It was user-installed. Right now , i am having issues with Windows XP trying to load. It comes to the WINDOWS XP loading screen with the green scrolling bar below the XP logo. As it attempts to load, it freezes before the screen switches from the welcome screen to the logon screen. What are the causes of this and how can it be overcome so that Windows will start normally? NOTE: Safe mode does work. Restore has been attempted but it can't get passed that little bump as XP is loading -- Jeremy

Question about Server Performance Advisor
by Guest Brian- 0 replies

Hello, I have been using Server Performance Advisor to monitor the servers for adjustments that may need to be made on our 2003 servers. My question is does this "replace" perfomance monitor as far as setting a baseline for server system performance and day-forward monitoring of server performance? I was trying to set up performance counters for specific server roles such as file, print, domain controller, email, database and web server when I came across this utiliy. Should I still go ahead and configure performance logging or is Server Performance Advisor a turn-key solution? Any help, suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated. -- Tha…

HELP with scheduled tasks
by Guest jhleslie@googlemail.com- 10 replies

Hello! I have some important files on my computer that need backing up daily, there is a hard disk attached and a very nice young man created a thing called BACKUP.BAT which works perfectly. It took him about 45 seconds of furious typing. It copies everything from my computer to the hard disk, all the files that have changed, or been created, perfectly. All I have to do is double click it. I wanted this to happen at the same time every day so the nice young man said as he left the office 'just set up scheduled tasks'. I have been trying to do this ever since but it wouldn't run, then eventually, acting on a hunch, I discovered that it is because I don't hav…
