Error connecting to Tsweb server
by Guest portlandjoe- 2 replies
The terminal server is behind a pix 501 firewall. The port 80 has been opened and I've connected to the tsweb website. I type in the IP address of the terminal server, and it gives me this error: The client could not connect to the remote computer. Remote connections might not be enabled or the computer might be too busy to accept new connections. It is also possible that network problems are preventing your connection. Please try connecting again later. If the problem continues to occur, contact your system administrator. If I connect to my cisco VPN client, the connection works, even when I use my external, not my internal, IP address to access…

looking for multifunction printer compatible with TS2003
by Guest Xavier- 4 replies

Hello, I do have a customer who's using TS2003 (SP2, fully patched) to run an application from a couple of point of sales (XP Pro SP2). Printing is OK on ticket printers. The customer would like to add a print/fax device in the point of sales. I came across the following article that describes how to get DOT4 device working with TS: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=302361. If someone has connected such multifunction devices remotely to a TS2003, I'd be happy to know the device details. Any info or pointer would be appreciated. Thanks, Xavier

Windows 2000 TS PIN for Windows 2003 TS
by Guest MJ- 1 reply

Hello, First I am not a technical person so forgive me if I ask a really easy question. A client of mine has a PIN for Windows 2000 Terminal Server that they want to know when the install/upgrade to Windows 2003 Terminal Server, can they use the same PIN. Or do they have to go to the licensing wizard and follow the steps to go to the Microsoft Clearinghouse and get a new PIN? Does the PIN even exist for Windows 2003 Terminal Server? Thanks MJ

TS licensing on Windows 2003 R2
by Guest Mike- 3 replies

Hi As there is now a requirement to have a license server running on the network, was wondering how licensing works now. I am in the process of buying 2x5 licenses, which I was initially intending to deploy 5 licenses on 2 separate machines. Was wondering if this changed with the server model, would this mean that these licenses would allow access to any machine with TS installed up to the limit of the 10 I will own? Hoping that someone can clarify this for me. Many Thanks in advance. Mike

Running app over Internet with TS
by Guest Markus- 5 replies

I would like to use Terminal Services (TS) to allow users to run an MS Access application over the Internet from their Internet browser, if possible. If not, then can TS provide me with an option to run the app over the Internet in some other way? I need some beginner help on how I can set up and test my app to be used in this way before I offer it to my clients. E.G., I have an Apache Web server running under Windows XP Home, will I need to upgrade to XP Pro to use Terminal Services? Can Terminal Services provide a solution that can have users run my app in their browser, or will each remote user be required to have Terminal Services and XP Pro on th…

Hello again, Now that the TS is working, I need to Run a program (Quick Books 2005) remotely, but it is asking for the user to have Power User or Administrator rights, is the any way to give those access to user just to the Server2 = TS and not to Server1 = DC? If I add the user to the administrative group it will have access to all both servers like Administrator, how can I limite that access just to Server1. Thanks Rene

Slow printer access Via Terminal server Network printer vs local
by Guest Jerry Alan Braga- 3 replies

We have 2 terminal servers in which we run our applications. The printers on the terminal servers are mapped via login script to a central print server. All of the servers are running windows 2003 SP2 (not R2). We have be noticing printing lag and from what I see there seems to be a big difference in the time it take to communicate to a networked printer from the terminal server between using a networked version of the printer via the print server and adding the printer locally to the terminal server and creating the network port directly to it. If I right click on the shared version and click properties it takes on average approx 5-7 seconds to brin…

Location based printing and terminal server
by Guest Jeff- 1 reply

I have a NLB TS farm that NLB's to 5 TS Enterprise nodes. Our company uses location based printing which works well but now I have an issue. A printer at a remote site is installed on my terminal nodes that points via Standard IP port from my corporate office directly to the printer. Now the remote site server controls the same printer at the remote site for their local users. This remote server's instance of the printer has the Location settings that corresponds to our AD subnets, this allows their local users to quickly navigate to their location in the AD Search and find the printers at their local site. Now the problem :(, each node that prints vi…

Re: Confused about KB article 911913 Hey TP, So RDP 60 is the hotfix they are refering to? I'm looking at making the change large scale, I can push RDP 60 out vis WSUS and make the registry changes via GPO but every fully updated client I look at only has a portion of the path indicated in the article. Missing Default\AddIns\RDPDR whereas the article indicates to add the DWORD only, what am I missing? Thanks! -- Steve "TP" wrote: > The registry setting causes the Remote Desktop Client to > redirect the user's default printer *only*. > > You need to obtain the version of the client mentioned > in the article, or use the late…

For obvious reasons I would like to change the location of the local user profiles on my Terminal Server. I have several user's connecting to the Terminal server from thin client terminals and I want to move the user profile to a different drive which has more space. I have tried to setup terminal server profiles against the user account but I cannot get this working. I am not be understanding exactly what this does but am I wrong in thinking that I can do away with the profiles in the default c\documents and settings\user.. folders. Any guidance appreciated. -- Solent Carpentry Services Ltd 3 Capel Ley Purbrook Hants PO7 5PU Tel: 02392 782875 Mo…

Local Printing on MS Windows Vista and TS 2003
by Guest Ben- 3 replies

Hi, I've had a problem with a local multifunctional printer/fax/scanner (Canon MP780) not connecting through a TS 2003 session when using MS Windows Vista client. It works fine when using a MS Windows XP Pro client. I've found this to be because of the drivers that are used and the naming of them. Both Microsoft and Canon have said that they don’t think that we can get the device to work so I'm going to purchase a new multifunctional device. Can anyone suggest a multifunctional printer/fax/scanner like the Canon MP780 that they know will print locally through a TS 2003 session when using a MS Windows Vista client? Thanks, Ben

Security zones and content ratings
by Guest Jeff- 1 reply

I have to add a server \\servername to the Local intranet zone for all terminal users automatically. After I add the settings to: user configuration\windows settings\internet explorer\ maintenace\security\security zones and content ratings to the Terminal Servers OU which houses the terminal nodes I find it doesn't apply to newly created terminal profiles or old ones. I read that you then have to export the settings, which creates the INS and CAB files. How do I autoapply these to all terminal user profiles? Or is there another way?

Printers Not Redirecting and Deleting Properly
by Guest jbell94521- 4 replies

I have a Windows XP Home PC that is connecting to a Microsoft Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition terminal server via RDP over IP. When this client logs off the terminal server, the printers that were "created" on the server to redirect his local printers do not get deleted. I have never seen this before - all other clients who connect to this server have their printers deleted when they log off. Then when this client logs on again, he winds up with duplicate printers in his terminal server session, with the result that applications get confused and printing fails. Any idea how to remedy this? I'm stuck! Thanks! -- jbell94521

Disabling a GPO logon Script
by Guest Alex Anderson- 8 replies

Hello Everyone, We have a GPO logon script that users get when they log into their computer or TS. Our goal is disable the logon script when users log into the TS server. I found the KB article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924034/en-us) that explains the process however the script still runs when a user logs in. I'm not sure if it's because the script is tagged to a GPO or if the KB article is meant for entirely something else? I did get help from the VB script people on how to exclude certain computers from running however I thought it would be much easier to just disable the logon script feature on the TS server. Any help would be much appr…
