We have a program that uses the FlexLM key locks to prevent more than one person running the program. Even when you try to fire up a second instance of the program you are denied a license. Since only one instance on the computer can run at a time we have had this installed on the Terminal Server and not violated the license agreement because even when 10 people are using the TS for whatever, only one can use the program using the FlexLM key lock. I baggered out of a developer that they put in the restriction on the program (no details on how) but Sales and Management of the software company deny it is there because they know we and other customers will…

On my XP Pro computer, everytime I shut down, it's installing updates & tells me not to shut down it will shutdown automatically. I don't get the option in the shutdown menu to shutdown without installing & there are times this might run for 4 or more hours! What's up with that? -- Mr. Simpson, there are thousands of people like you with no discernable talent. Yeah, they're called Congress.

Hi folks My sa have installed new server. It does not have any windows interface. I beleive this is Hyper-V server and does not have Windows Server 2008 Server Core Enterprise x64 as he insists. The main difference for me is next: Hyper-V support up to 4 cpu, Windows server supports 8 or more. Is there any way to clearly proof which os we are running, how many cpu does it support.

A recent crash left my old Win ME laptop unbootable. Also, the floppy disk and CD drive are both broken. I understand that it's impossible to reinstall the OS by putting my HD in an external USB box connected to another computer, which would be the easiest solution, as the OS has to install to the C drive, I have read. It seems the only way I can reinstall Win ME would be to put my laptop HD into someone else's laptop, start the installation routine from its working CD, then, after Windows finishes copying files and says it's going to restart the computer, turn the computer off, remove the HD, put it in my laptop, start it up and hopefully the install will r…

Reinstalling Windows ME - How to Proceed?
by Guest Lynn Q- 7 replies

Hi there, I have a 10-year-old system which has two hard drives and is otherwise working fine. It's had a few upgrades along the way with more RAM (now up to 200 MB (not up to 256, didn't have enough old-style memory). One CD drive is a CD reader, the other is a CDRW but it's not speedy. I had upgraded the original Windows ME installation to a WinXP Pro. However, due to memory limitations (RAM) and just overall slowness due to the age and technology of this system I wish to revert it back to Windows ME. I would prefer to start over from scratch. I still have all the original hardware disks (CD Burner software, fax modem, etc.) including my original ME …

by Guest Lynn Q- 4 replies

Hi there, Well, I've successfully re-installed WinMe after I tracked down my back-up disk and run all the critical updates. It's running beautifully after this clean install, and I don't want to mess it up. I've googled and was not very successful, so now I am requesting your assistance. I'm looking for FREE software, i.e., antivirus, antispyware, antiphishing, etc. to run on this 10-year-old system. Anything else I need please let me know on the security side. Thank you! Lynn

by Guest Dave- 4 replies

In the process of tracking down a possible virus problem, I did a search and found the offending folder. I clicked Explore, and Explorer opened to the folder of interest. I then opened another Explorer window so I could compare a few things, and guess what, the folder did not show up? I have hidden and protected files unhidden. In other words, as I write this, I have two displays open: 1) C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 (which is where the problem file is) 2) C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\Local Settings\Temporary Internet iles - there is no Content.IE5 folder What's going on? by Guest Harry Truman- 2 replies

Posting this for a friend so I hope I am giving you ample information to help solve the problem. He is attempting to install an 'external monitor.' He has a Gateway MX3210 Laptop running XP (Home Edition V. 2002, Service Pack 2). The external 'monitor' he wants to use is a Sony Kdl 26M4000 (I guess it is really a TV monitor.) He has a cable connected, and in a menu shown on the Sony's screen, he selects " PC-PIP. In Device Manager, the default monitor is listed as VIA/536 Unichrome Pro IGP (I believe this to be his laptop's monitor). The monitor listed for Plug & Play is the same VIA/536 ... When we restart the laptop, when the first Windows logo scree…
