MSN blocks Trillian
by Guest Pdigmking- 7 replies

Microsoft is now blocking Trillian instant messaging. This is rediculous. I have two reason for using Trillian instead of MS mesenger. First, messenger does all kinds of crap in the background and wants to run itself all the time, and it has this pop up window that has nothing to do with my IM session. In other words, I dumped MS messnger for the same reason I dumped AOL years ago, it became abuntantly clear to me that the service was about prividing access to me rather than for me. Second I don't like to have several IM programs running at once, having one program- Trillian is simpler and safer. MS is just being a pissant here, there's no reason to …

Thanks n.damra@mgc-concrete.com

Power Management Properties for HDD not being obeyed
by Guest prototype_ad- 0 replies

Hi, I am running Windows XP Professional on a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. Everything was running fine when I noticed that from a few days, my HDD spins down automatically every couple of minutes or less! I can hear the distinct sound, and can verify that from the load cycle count increase. My laptop is always plugged in. I checked that my power settings through Windows and Dell Quickset were both fine -- none allowed the Hard Drive to power down by itself in any state. The drive is not being overheated or anything, it just spins down and then starts back up immediately. I would like to disable this unreasonably frequent spin-down as it's useless and is wast…

Print Spooler
by Guest Nils Titley- 4 replies

I believe I have done some thing to my print spooler. When I try printing, it will no longer print if I have the printer set to spool the print jobs. But If I change to 'print directly' documents are printed. The print spooler is running. The printer was working fine with spool prints but I think I stopped a process. Though it does show that the spooler is running. What do I need to change. Thank you

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 notebook running Windows XP Home. I am using the touchpad. No mouse. Whenever I am typing (e.g. in MS Word, text search box in Google, composing Gmail message), the text cursor will suddenly disappear after a while. If I realise it, I have to click on the touchpad and bring the cursor back to the text box before I can continue typing. If I do not realise it, I would be typing but nothing goes into the text box. The time it takes for this to happen varies from 2 to 20 seconds. It is most frustrating. My anti-virus is up todate and I have also run various malware and adware removal software. No success. I googled and found sev…

Hi there, this morning my Windows2000SP4 desktop started with the 680x480 resolution and the keyboard not running at the login window. The keyboard is ok at the bios and til the F8 start menu. If i choose the debug mode, the keyboard is still dead. I tried with a Linux live boot cd and I have no problem. I guess a problem on the keyboard drivers but the Recovery disk does nothing. Can i manually substitute the keyboard driver? Which drivers??? Help !! -- SteM

TS 2003 Window Display Issue
by Guest CLJones- 2 replies

Hello everyone, I'm new here & have found Microsoft forums are the best place to get help with problems that really stump me. Basically, we have a TS set up on server 2003 (sorry, I know this is a 2008 forum), but the principles should generally be the same. Our users, when they log in, have a clock program that sometimes disappears off the screen & is no longer visible, yet is still running. This program is only displayed in the system tray as there is nothing in the task bar. When you right click on the program, you are given no move option (nor when you right click on the system tray icon). My thoughts on solving this problem were to wr…

Hi, I have a computer with Windows XP. I started it a few days ago to be greeted with the message: 'Windows Product Activation. Your Windows product must be activated. Do you want to activate Windows now?' I clicked OK and after a moment it comes back and says 'Windows is already activated. Click OK to exit.' You can see the screen messages here.... http://www.users.waitrose.com/~zeonozo/1c.jpg Can anyone tell me what to do here please? I mean will it just continue like this for ever, asking for activation and then saying it's OK, because I can cope with that. Or will it just refuse to cooperate on Wednesday morning? How do I resolve this, it is like …

The screen saver does not work !!!
by Guest SIMONE- 4 replies

In my PC (XP Home SP3), works only the screensavers of default (those which we find installed, with to the O.S...... in order meaning to us.). All those which I install, and I say just all, I have tried because them, when I try to enable them: Property - Screen > Screensaver, not they work! I have setting 1/2 minutes, then Apply > OK, but does not happen just null? The thing still stranger, is that, clicking on push-button " Try", it works all to the perfection, but after It applies > OK, passed by far the wait time, does not happen just null! How I can resolve the problem? Thanks in advance!!! -- SIMONE
