We have recently upgraded a few dc's to windows 2008, whilst keeping some DCs at 2003. Mostly all member servers are 2003, however we have a few older nt4 machines with data on them. The nt4 servers were migrated years ago from the older domain structure into a single domain in active directory. All has been fine up until recently. The PDC emulator is on a windows 2008 DC now. When logging onto the affected nt4 server/s the user manager for domains shows the main domain, but when you look at local groups, the domain groups which are inside are showing as 'DOMAIN NAME\account unknown'. Today when I started up, when viewing Images with Windows Explorer the file names are not displayed when in the Thumbnail and Filmstrip views. File names appear as normal when in any other view. I've change no sttings or installed anything since it was working OK yesterday. Any ideas? thanks

my friend bought a used computer, which worked fine until her kids got on it and locked her out with a log on password. we got that figured out, she is now able to log on to windows, but now she can't add or remove any programs or even access wireless internet because it says she has to be logged on as administrator and we can't figure out how to change this. we have tried adding a new usse, but this too has to have administrator rights. we don' t know what to do because she doesn't have the money to take it to a repair shop. please, someone help us out here. i need exact directions to be able to do this. HI TP, I am having similar issue now on windows 2003 SP1,i have gone through the steps specified between you and xrbbaker. and checked for the profile duplication but there was no duplicate entries in my server. the issue is frequently, unable to load the profile for all accounts such as for domain/local accounts.if i/some one login to the server after typing username and password,screen shows progress at applying settings screen but never loads the profile.to resolve this issue i have to reboot the server and solves the problem users can login through RDP and even i can login.it works a for a day/2 again same problem appears then i have to reboot the…

Its looking like out 2003 server (domain controller) has had a Hard Drive failure, and its probably 2 of the 3 driver from the raid 5 array WE need to reload the server, I just want to confirm a few points I have another 2003 server running exchange 2003 which I ok I will need this logging back on the domain when the server gets back up and running whic will then let us get email up and running Will the exchange server just logback on after a clean server 2003 installation or will I need to run system state recovery If I need to run the system state recovery do I need ALL the windows updates applying along with all the applications, sql etc reloaded?…

Hi, I intend to migrate my File Server W2K3 to W2K8 using robocopy tool. Anyone knows any other tool that help to migrate File Server keeping the structure and permissions besides Robocopy? I heard to say that I should change a key in the registry to migrate a file. Is that true? Thanks. Luiz

I purchased a copy of Live OneCare rather than renewing online. I followed the installation instructions and it works and updates daily as it should. My problem is I continually get popups telling me to renew. Upon installation completion, it said it may take up to 24 hours for the renewal notice would go away.
