Dropping in a couple new monitors in xp pro
by Guest Mark G.- 3 replies

I have been running my trusty old 21" Sony Trinitron Multiscan G500 for the last 6-7 years. When it came out, it was very high end and even at today's standards, it does well. But this monitor is HUGE! About 100 pounds to boot. Anyhow, got a couple of free monitors from work as they were upgraded. One 19" and one 21". Both LCD's. Would like to go to LCD's now and will run the 19" between 2 computers with a KVM switch. Anyhow, I was double checking the specs between my old Trinitron against the two newer Viewsonic LCD's and while I know they are different technology, it seems that maybe my Trinitron may still out perform the larger Viewsonic that was going …

I can't seem to find a .NET group but may have missed it somehow. If there is one, plz advise according and I'll post to there. I suspected the >net Framework 2.0 installation was not working so I tried to download and reinstall. I prior to uninstalling existing and then after uninstalling existing. Both times I rec'd the following err msg: Setup cannot continue because this version of the .NET Framework is incompatible with a previously installed one. For more info go to .....support/kp/articles/q312/5/00.asp. I went to above link and it provided no help. I have no reference in Add/Remove Programs to any .NET program and am at a stand still. An…

My Lenovo T61 system stops working completely and randomly. The external mouse, keyboard, internal keyboard, track point and track pad all stop functioning. I have to power down using the power button which is the only button on the machine that continues to work. Anyone having this issue that has a suggestion would be appreciated.

Msconfig question
by Guest spamlet- 9 replies

I am puzzled as to the operation of the configuration utility in XP Pro. When I use it, it appears to offer a range of dialogues for changing system settings, but whenever I change any, it just opens next time, with a message that I should go back to a 'normal' start up. What is the point of having a utility with the settings all in one convenient place, and then making it so that (apparently) changes can only be made on a temporary basis? Is this the way it is meant to work, or am I missing something? Cheers, S

System Restore question...
by Guest Angela- 3 replies

Ok. Here is what happened first of all: I was doing a defrag on my comp.. it was at 37%, I decided to see if this Sonic RecordNow! was the program I needed to use to burn a DVD, so I clicked it to open it and a blue screen with a bunch of white words on it popped up and then shut my computer down. I turned it back on.. it got to the screen where I enter my password.. I entered it. It then acted as if it was going to load windows and I seen my desktop background image but then it would go right back to the password screen.. and no matter how many times I entered my password it would keep doing that. I left my computer off for awhile and tried later, stll…

Computer stops responding
by Guest longhorn- 3 replies

I have been having problems with my computer suddenly stopping responding, or freezing. Ultimately I have to reboot. The error message that is generated upon restart is "STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER". I have followed all of the action dictated in the associated KB article, including replacing my video card. Nothing seems to cure the problem. So I am bringing my problem to the group to see if someone has cured this malady before.

Deleted Folder Keeps Reappearing
by Guest magmike- 7 replies

I have a folder on my desktop that just had two pictures in it, that once no longer needed, I deleted. However, whenever I restart, the folder with pictures inside reappears! I've moved them to other folders, and again - it reappears after a restart. I even deleted the folder with a supposed 'forever eraser' program that supposedly overwrites the data a thousand billion times - but, yes, you guessed it - it still reappears after a restart. Anybody know the cure for this and could explain why this is happening? Thanks in advance! magmike

click-jacking - how many times must you be warned?
by Guest MEB- 8 replies

Well, yet another aspect of what I have presented in this forum has now been addressed. More of the malicious activity we find spreading across the Internet. Click-jacking http://blogs.zdnet.com/security/?p=1972&tag=nl.e539 From the article: QUOTE: With this exploit, once you're on the malicious web page, the bad guy can make you click on any link, any button, or anything on the page without you even seeing it happening. [ SEE: Adobe Flash ads launching clipboard hijack attack ] If that's not scary enough, consider than the average end user would have no idea what's going on during a Clickjack attack. END QUOTE This is a cross-browser exploit NOT …

Transfer Windows XP Pro to another computer
by Guest rjn02- 7 replies

We have an old laptop that is currently running XP Pro (VERY slowly), that we we intend to take out of service. We intend to use the OS in another much newer laptop that can easily handle the operating system. We would like to avoid activation problems of course, and need to know how do we transfer XP licence from the old laptop to the new laptop. Appreciate any advise that will make this go smoothly. Thanks RJN
