I know of cookies, index files and suchlike. A great number of cleaners are available to remove/shred those files. My question is: includes the registry information on visited web sites and/or downloaded files? Thanx, Fred

Copying large quantity of files taking forever
by Guest SwitchKat- 6 replies

Hi, I wanted to throw this question out because after losing over a week of productivity, I'm not sure where else to turn. Here's my issue. We're trying to restore a file repository for a project that has just under 2 million files. We've tried restoring from tape, copying from another Windows server and even moving from another Windows server. The problem we run into in every case is that the file copy to the new system takes off fast and we can see file transfer rates start out copying 1000's of files per second, but over time it always slows down to a crawl and we end up where we are now. We are currently transferring one file every few minutes. …

Server 2003 to 2008 Upgrade Question Regarding Printers
by Guest Daniel P. Cayea- 2 replies

I just did an in place upgrade of 2003 Standard 64 Bit to 2008 64 Bit. On 2003 I had about 15 printer shares. After the upgrade I have zero printer shares. Is this by design or a bug? Why would an in place upgrade eat printer shares and is there any way to recover them other than to rebuild them? Thanks, Dan

I'm trying to split an mpg file using a Boilsoft splitter with a built in player. When I open the file in the app it immediately goes to full screen and I can't control it at all. This has been happening for a while when trying to play files as well using whatever player--windows, windvd, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Server 2008 - Installing non-TS CALs
by Guest jebtech- 4 replies

Potentially silly question, but I haven't seen this addressed. I have 250 CALs purchased. Where do I tell Server 2008 that I have these CALs? These aren't for Terminal Services, just for people on my internal network to access the server. My 2003 Server has an applet off the Control Panel, I don't see the same thing in 2008.

I have a process which creates temp files in the c:windows\temp folder whenever a file is printed. doesn't matter how the file is created. I think this may be due to a propitiatory audit program by teh printer mfg. Any one know of a program that can monitor a folder and show which process created a file?

I am not sure where to put this question. Please direct me to the right group. I am getting Event ID 9690 and 9175 errors under Event Viewer Application. ID 9690 shows Exchange Store "First Storage group\mailbox store (Exchange server)": The logical size of the database (the logical size equals the physial size of the .edb file and the .stm file minus the logical free space in each) is 18GB. This database size has exceeded the size limit of 18GB. This database will be dismunted immediately. How can I fix these two event ID errors. I would appreciate any help .

Software Compatibility Question (Forced Install)
by Guest Daniel P. Cayea- 1 reply

I have a piece of software I am trying to install on Server 2008. The setup will say that it can only install on Windows 2000, XP, or Vista. Now, even in compatibility mode (right clicking on the setup and telling it to run in a different layer) it tells me that it can only install in 2K, XP, or Vista. What can it be looking at to know the difference even in a compatibility layer? It isn't a system utility, its some test scoring software. Thanks, Dan

by Guest Rowan- 3 replies

I'm running windows 2003 Server on a Dell PE2500. As the server is being used much more as a heavy print server, the system drive keeps running out of space due to a build up of tmp files. Is there a way to change the location of the tmp files from the spooler to another larger drive ?
